Doncaster build-up thread

Can't see one, which is unlike you lot who like to get them up barely 12 seconds after the final whistle of the previous game!

Depending on Lambert and Fox's fitness, I can't imagine there will be any changes to the side, but then who knows with our Nige at present. Probably the main question would be whether De Ridder deserves to start, but who would you drop?

My prediction is that Fox will return and that otherwise we'll be unchanged.

A good-natured jibe towards the more keen posters, I would say dune.

As for Donny, I can't imagine any side bottom of a league will ever be particularly optimistic when faced with the top side! [insert usual comment about not getting complacent and doing a professional job]

I really can't see us not winning this one though. 2-0.

Seen on twitter there is a bucket collection at the game tomorrow, for the luey jacob sharp foundation, if you didn't know it is for Billy Sharp's two day old son who died.

I'm sure any saints fan that sees it will give accordingly.

But we'll play Hammond somewhere. Some rate him, I don't but then Nigel picks the team.

Was happy to leave him out against Coventry - and that game has similarities with tmrw i.e. I think we can outpass Donny and expose their weaknesses at the back.

Saying that, we did have Chaplow for Coventry who gave us cover, so, with his absence, NA might play it safe and start Hammond.

The BBC preview was suggesting Barnard might start. It didn't suggest who would be on the bench, but I suspect it's one of:

Lambert on the bench due to a knock or needing a rest

or

Guly moves into Chaplow's spot, and Barnard moves up front

or

Guly on the bench with a rest

Of course, the BBC was just saying Barnard "could" start.

Keep Harding in for Fox. He was shocking at Brizzle & Harding played well on Tuesday. Also DeRidder in for Hammond. Bench Bart, Martin, Hammond, Barnard & Butterfield. Hoping for a win & ground no 72 for me!!!

I didn't see the brizzle game, but before that game Fox had gotten settled and looked like being 1st choice, also he has waded in with plenty of assists of late.

Harding didn't play that well Tuesday. They targeted him and it worked a fair bit.

Fox is far better, he was left exposed at Bristol.

Harding is average defensively and offers nothing going forward, whenever he plays, even when he has a good game, it just reminds me how much better Fox is. Hardings crossing is awful and opposition do see him as a weak link.

Hes great on the ball, comfortable going forward, great crossing and delivery from free kicks, gets up and down quite well and works well with Lallana. A much better footballer than Harding.

This, when i see Harding play i realise why Adkins decided to bring in Fox.

Fox has got a great delivery from deep, but apart from that is he really anything special? Beat a man? Overlap? Get to the bye-line? Particularly good at the one touch passing? Great defender?

Agree with you to a point. Dont think he beats his man or overlaps alot; but his delivery from deep means he doesnt have to. Fox is also more composed on the ball. Defensively I prefer Harding in one-on-ones but think Fox is better at dealing with crosses/diagonal balls.

Must win game,we have to start winning more away games, especially against the lesser sides. Automatic promotion will depend on how many wins we can get away from home for the rest of the season. Our away form has invariably been our achilles heel,[ last two seasons excluded, which were in league one] we cannot rely solely on our magnificent home form. We will have to play a lot better than at Bristol to win tomorrow. Head says 2-1 to Saints.

I'm not saying Fox is a BAD player or that Harding is better than him. Just that jury is currently out my end as to whether he's been enough of an improvement for the money spent. Don't think he massively compliments Gallant either who suits having an over lapping full back taking a man away as he cuts in. For what its worth I expect Fox to start tomorrow.

Yeah, he's looked well worth nearly £2m which is why Adkins dropped him on Tuesday night.

So you look at that one, not the fact that he has played nearly every game since signing, whereas harding has been nowhere near the team, hasn't impressed when given the chance.

Hammond has put in some great performances and found himself dropped previously. I don't argue that he should have been dropped more, but it kind of works. What I am pretty certain of is to use the best current form pairing from from Cork, Hammond and Schneiderlin and leave the other one on the bench. The key to Saturdays game will be who adds to the midfield with Lallana, with options from De Ridder, Butterfield, Fox, Harding, Guly? When our attackers are on form I would always go with a more defensive player, with the ability to keep it tight with the option of turning things around. But our attackers are not on form and De Ridder does add to things without a doubt. Whether that will pan out when he starts is another matter but my guess would be yes. Going to be interesting to see who Adkins picks and the formation, but will not be arguing with him even if Hooiveld turns up there!

It would be good to see a more attacking line up with de Ridder getting a start and Barnard coming on from the bench. An away win is badly needed to start to improve the away stats and with West Ham at home to Burnley we need to score enough goals to keep the goal difference up.
