Big Bad Bob Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Jos has signed a three and a half year contract at St. Mary's, with the move completed outside of the transfer window as he is currently registered at the club, therefore eradicating any international clearance issues and giving the green light for the loan to be made permanent at this time. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2533828,00.html
St.Patrik Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 So the news from his agent os Twitter was correct then : )
Dimond Geezer Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Excellent news. Does anyone know why he was already registered with us rather than Celtic?
Saint Garrett Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great signing, very happy to make him permanent. Lets hope he's more of a 'Chaplow' than a 'Saganowski'!!
Lighthouse Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great signing, very happy to make him permanent. Lets hope he's more of a 'Chaplow' than a 'Saganowski'!! As long as Nigel doesn't leave him on the bench until the 80th minute, I'm sure that wont be a problem.
Ian the Red Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 1st signing then!! Great news. Now we need another striker, another centre half and a player with real pace and the title is ours!!!
MadDogMatt Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 He has been terrific; always thought he signed on loan but with an option agreed for permanent up front Well done NA and NC
Lighthouse Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 1st signing then!! Great news. Now we need another striker, another centre half and a player with real pace and the title is ours!!! You think we need SIX centre halves?
The9 Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Excellent news. Does anyone know why he was already registered with us rather than Celtic? Because he was playing for us, and you have to be registered with a club to play for them. International clearance would have been given when he signed initially, rather than us having to wait for it now.
saints-cris Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great news, he's been brilliant so far. Another CB and a striker and in Jan and I think we are there.
Shroppie Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 (Copied form other thread as this one's winning!) Really pleased with that. I'll admit I was somewhat underwhelmed when it was announced he was coming on loan - looked like a last minute rather desperate move - but I'm very happy to say I've been proved wrong. Think the partnership with Jose is really strong and you can see how much he's taken to the club. Wonder if he knew this was happening when he did his personal lap at the end of the game on Tuesday? Welcome aboard the bus. Good to have you in the building! btw think we still need a loan cover at CB in Jan with MS and RJ out.
Shroppie Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 You think we need SIX centre halves? When 2 are out long-term, yes.
The9 Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 (edited) You think we need SIX centre halves? *I* think we need at least 3 experienced competent players, if not 4, in that position with the potential to perform in the Premier League. So currently we have Fonte (looks ok in the Championship but nothing like as dominant as in L1), Hooiveld (looks better than Fonte at the mo but unproven in English top flight and with a smidge of CL experience), Martin (backup at the moment), Seaborne (who knows?) and Jaidi (no contract after June, getting on and hasn't played this season). I'd definitely want us to sign another CB, midfielder (centre or right), CF in January. If we get up, maybe a keeper, right back, midfielder and another striker in the summer. All of whom should be better than what we've got, if we're serious about getting up and not coming straight back down. We might be lucky and find that we have kids with the ability to fill those roles, but if not we'll need to buy or improve what we've got in other ways. This is a very good signing, nevertheless. nato88 Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great news. Another striker, a pacy winger and a defender in Jan please NA!
Wes Tender Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great news. He and Fonte have the makings of a very good partnership which blossoms match by match. A very good bit of business.
Dimond Geezer Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Because he was playing for us, and you have to be registered with a club to play for them. International clearance would have been given when he signed initially, rather than us having to wait for it now. But Chappers was playing for us on loan & he wasn't signed until the January window opened.
Lighthouse Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 When 2 are out long-term, yes. I'd have said we have cover in Martin and if someone else gets injured we can get an emergency loan. Having 6 on the books with 2 not playing is just wasteful IMO.
thefunkygibbons Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 The pun writer from The Sun is in the house
The9 Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 But Chappers was playing for us on loan & he wasn't signed until the January window opened. Can't remember the exact loans in question but there are different rules for short-term and season-long loans, and that wasn't the question anyway. I would think Hooiveld's deal won't become official until January 1st anyway, but as it's signed there's no reason not to announce it now. Might just be that Chaplow's deal wasn't concluded until the window opened.
Highfield Saint Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 And a goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel please.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Trending in the UK on twitter. We are a massive club. Great news.
Danbert Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Kasper Schmeichel please. God no, he's so overrated.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great news. Entertains me on Twitter. Bloody good CB too.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 God no, he's so overrated. 100% this, he's not that good.

Might just be that Chaplow's deal wasn't concluded until the window opened. As Jos was signed on loan before the close of the transfer window the deal can be made permanent at any time, window or no window.Emergency loans are different ,you have to wait for the next window to open to make them permanent. Jos was signed on loan on the 31 st August so the loan was always transformable at any time. Chaplow was a short term loan in September or October I think.
West End Saint Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Delighted with Jos signing he has been quality we get a player that we know can do the job & he wants to be with us good deal all round still think we need another centre back & we have got to get a quality striker on the Bus then we are in very good shape
the saint in winchester Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Great news. Another striker, a pacy winger and a defender in Jan please NA! That would be my shopping list as well. Someone to play up to the 70th minute, when SDR is allowed to come on and terrorise weary legs!!!
corky morris Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Excellent news. He has been excellent for us. Even the last 5 minutes against Adebola on Tuesday made me happy. Someone clearly did their research before he came here & that should also give us confidence. I wonder how much we paid??
tartan_saint Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 celtic seem to be glad to see the back of him.... even a mention on the last page at how poor the championship must be if he cant make it "at a club like celtic". http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/topic/8593560/16/ are they having a laugh?
del boy Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 Skysport are saying "a deal worth just short of £2million" ..not sure if this has any connection with reality
Give it to Ron Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 100% this, he's not that good. You obviously spend too much time in the concourse then.

Probably nothing to do with the ability of the player, more a problem of Celtic and their tea-boy manager. He might well understand Scottish football but the few minutes european action that I've seen of them tells me that there Lennon is completely out of his depth. He's a dinosaur so they play prehistoric football.
RinNY Posted 1 December, 2011 Posted 1 December, 2011 You think we need SIX centre halves? Let's face it, Jaidi is to all inents & purposes done; and who knows what Seaborne will be when he comes back from his head injury? The only real cover we have at CB right now is Martin, who is still pretty much untried. I agree that another CB is still highly desirable.
