saintmatt Posted 30 November, 2011 Share Posted 30 November, 2011 Just thinking of our last two games.. Thought we played Hull at a good time, they played well but can't help feeling they'd have stood more chance under Pearson (no disrespect to Barmby) Conversely, it seems we played Bristol City at the wrong time; they couldn't buy a win earlier in the season and are now a completely different force under McInnes Anybody remember playing someone at a particularly good/bad time in the past (we seem to have had our fair share of "new manager syndrome" matches iirc!)? Does this even itself out over a season or does anybody remember a particularly good/bad season for this?

alpine_saint Posted 1 December, 2011 Share Posted 1 December, 2011 Playing Arsenal in a cup final only 10 days after they'd thumped us 6-1 ....... Absolutely. If that 6-1 defeat hadnt happened, WGS would have played the cup final differently.

stinhk Posted 1 December, 2011 Share Posted 1 December, 2011 Playing Arsenal in a cup final only 10 days after they'd thumped us 6-1 ....... I'm sure we let them win that one easily in an attempt to lull them into complacency for the cup final game.
The9 Posted 2 December, 2011 Share Posted 2 December, 2011 Absolutely. If that 6-1 defeat hadnt happened, WGS would have played the cup final differently. ...and we'd have probably lost 6-1.
The9 Posted 2 December, 2011 Share Posted 2 December, 2011 Beating Spurs to get Hoddle the sack was most definitely the right time. Playing Man U last game of the season needing a win to stay up, with the side that actually stayed up at home to Cheats FC, not so much. You can throw Bryan Robson's West Brom also getting a highly unexpected Fergie bonus loyalty point at Old Trafford in an evening game just before it into that mix as well. Plus they played a totally disinterested Skates in the last game.
Charlie Wayman Posted 2 December, 2011 Share Posted 2 December, 2011 Just thinking of our last two games.. Saints of today bear no relationship to the Saints who struggled to survive in this division only 2 1/2 years ago. Managers come and go quickly if results aren't forthcoming. Once a manager is changed a team changes so past form is nothing to go by in that event. Bristol City were in the play-offs not long ago so their bottom-of-the-league position with the same players must have been false. Donnies this weekend should offer no such surprises and on form we should whack 5 past them.
