Guly. Get off his back?

I and a colleague of mine both said that the team didn't seem to have their usual unity and spirit against Hull, it wasn't just Guly that was getting upset Lallana and Lambert both had a moan a couple of times and i'm sure they weren't the only ones. I hope that it was just a one off, as one of the best things about watching Saints this season has been the togetherness of the team and seeing them playing for one another as well as us and how they all go and celebrate a goal with the scorer.

I also think we'll see how much the team have come to rely on Chaplow over the last few months and therefore how important he is to us, in the coming weeks. Without him in the team they all have to do that bit more running and closing down to make up for his absence.

I don't think we do rely on Chaplow all that much, he's done a really useful job in RM because he adds something going forward

and something defensive as well. He's only been playing the position since the Boro game though and we'd had good results

before that. Chaplow in an attacking role helped to offset the lack of Lallana for the games he was missing, it also allowed

Guly to move into a more central role that Connolly had been looking sharp in before he got injured/knackered.

Thing is now that Chappers is out for a while we can't necessarily move Guly back to his role on the right unless we can rely on

Barnard to play the 90 and get some results at it.De Ridder ?? well you all tell me because I don't think Nigel knows what to do with him either,he's not really a goalscorer and he's not really a wide man.Not sure that you can have Lallana and De Ridder starting in the same side.

what makes you think he's not a wide man? Also we played with Lallana and Oxo all last season, so why not this? With Hammond and Morgan both liking to hold having two attacking wide midfielders seems to make sense

Oxo was pretty nifty on the defensive side, don't think De Ridder possesses that attribute as of yet.

De Riddler is an enigma to me,he wasn't always a starter at De Grafschaap you know, there are a lot of sub appearances in his

only 1st division season there and he didn't score a lot of goals in that one season either. Most of his starts(and goals) came the season before when they were in a lower league. It's true he's quick and has a certain address in front of goal but his stamina

is obviously questionable as are the 4 yellows he's gotten already. Now in Holland I don't think he got booked very often, probably because he wasn't required to track back or tackle.Mind you De Grafschaap were pretty sh*t last season.

lots of comments there Window Cleaner, but the fact that he wasn't a regular with that club doesn't prove anything...maybe he wasn't the manager's favourite

but Chaplow was out in the cold at Preston till he came to us - now he's a key player.. and that Hooiveld fellow ..not even a regular place on the bench at Celtic , but now.... ! As you say De Grafschaap were poor last year... but it's difficult for anyone to show up well in a poor side...

I think many people..(maybe not you) are convinced that SDR was a good investment. He gets a few minutes sub.times in most games and has got four goals -so far - all coming off the bench. I think he has a lot of potential, but doesn't quite fit into the present (successful) formation that NA is using. In time, he may be more regular.

Guly = 7 league goals

Lambert = 12 league goals..... 5 of which were penalties.

Looks like a pretty good record to me...!!!

Very lazy response. If you could be bothered to read the thread then you'd notice that his goal/assist record is not the point at all

I'm willing to be convinced about De Ridder but I feel he's being given the role he merits for the time being.

Having looked at the first half full 90 from Tuesday I'd say that Cork was absolutely transparent and his being replaced by De Ridder was absolutely necessary.Lallana was totally transparent in the first half as well and yet people blame Guly and the formation for our lack of punch.Morgan did far better on the right than Lallana did on the left.Looking forward to finding time to look at the second half though. Crowd totally absent as well, never seen so many empty seats bet there weren't 22K people actually in the Stadium.

An unnecessarilly rude response. Wind your neck in fella! I only wanted to make a point to support the comments of others that Guly does contribute and that the barracking he receives from some quarters isn't really justified, in my opinion of course.

Apologies for not writing a novel. I didn't have the time, or, in all honesty, feel the need either.
