Smirking_Saint Posted 30 November, 2011 Share Posted 30 November, 2011 If Lukas (or anyone else) comes, do you really think that they would expect to come in and replace the divisons leading scorer? Surely no-one would be that naive ! IF... Lukas he's 22 , and Ricky is already 29?. ...so who do you think will finish their career first ? Lukas is building a career for himself, if he has any sense he wouldn't come to sit on an NPC bench only to be more or less released in the prem. Do you really think if he has 3 or 4 offers he would sit on our bench ? 22 or not he is a first team regular.

Do you really think if he has 3 or 4 offers he would sit on our bench ? 22 or not he is a first team regular. I don't normally differ with your opinions Smirking Saint, but; YES he is " building " a career...in a sh*t awful side at the bottom of the league, of course he's THEIR star player. I don't believe he's so naive as to think he'd come in and immediately displace the league's leading scorer.. except when (like now) that player may be injured (or worse be out for an indefinite period). Besides NA has a sqúad concept and he'd have to get into that. ... if as you say (and I agree) he is a good prospect and likely to improve, then (in Adkins thinking) he will develop into a Prem. player...with Saints (also in Adkins thinking) . No-one has ever been BORN into a Premiership team, some develop talent early on, but most have to work hard to achieve /and retain it. Whether we are talking about Lukas, (or A.N. OTHER striker).. it stands to reason that just now we are seeing the best..that Ricky Lambert has ever been. (his words, too)...and we are glad of it, but few would expect him to get even better when entering the Prem. at age 30 ..or would they? We need to coach (I avoided the word "groom " for obvious reasons) but someone with talent who will eventually take over that role. I have no definitive opinions on who that should be, but it has to be " someone " and we must bring them in soon so as to be in place for next season. Even the "suspicion" of an injury to Lambert only goes to emphasise that IMO. Edited 1 December, 2011 by david in sweden

I just think it would be a hard sell, don't get me wrong, if we get Lukas I will be far from dissapointed, I just wonder if we will be able to finalise a deal. Nor do I think Lukas is a particularly decent player, I mean, if we do make it to the prem, I would argue we would need a prem quality striker as a priority. In fact, with Connolly's (1 year contract and uncertain fitness), and Barnards uncertain future (with the judiciary)... I think we need at least TWO. A "type" of Lukas / Maynard /Sharp / A.N.OTHER PLUS an established Striker with Premiership experience who won't cost a huge fee and 60K week. david in sweden Posted 1 December, 2011 Share Posted 1 December, 2011 (edited) I thought you didn't believe in uncertain fitness Actually, I didn't like the constant use of the phrase " injury-prone " (ala sicknote Anderton and Kevin Dyer), but any striker worth his salt can expect some knocks and strains. Lambert has been EXTREMELY lucky, but sadly MLTs career finished far too earlý, but his wonderful goal-scoring feats masked some injury problems. " uncertain " = not definite, or decided Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary. I can only base a statement on what I know - in this case I don't! When a player is fit - he's OK, when injured he could be out for a week - or a year. If it's a "new " injury, it's unlucky whereas if a recurring injury - it's a problem. I haven't heard the extent of Connolly's current malady, but if he's back in 2-3 weeks that's probably par for the course - do you know more... or ? The9 Posted 2 December, 2011 Share Posted 2 December, 2011 No attempt I see to challenge my assertion that to state that Barnard is not up the championship after a tiny amount of sub appearances is ridiculous. Couldn't care less about the qualifications you say you have, it is annoying though when you act as if your opinion is superior to others because of them. I would say football coaching qualifications are a fairly good guide to whether someone knows anything about football or not. Why else would they exist? dellgirl Posted 2 December, 2011 Share Posted 2 December, 2011 There was something very wrong with R.L. on tuesday,he came off virtually snarling, I really hope he isn't unhappy in general,he looks happy usually in close up in the league show and hope this was a one off. Always nervy with window arriving and the shadow of Pardew currently doing so well up north.

At least we should have had someone capable of scoring goals at this level. This is precisely what I had feared for all season. If (anyone) LJ or whoever, had been taken in on loan, at least we'd have had a strike force. Without Connolly and Lambert, Barnard is the only established striker in the club, and surely not 100% yet.. if he's only getting short sub.appearances? CORRECTION ; Sorry...of course, we do have Jonno Forte - is he back from his headline-making loan at Preston..yet ?
