Saints 2 Hull 1 - Post Match Reactions

Fantastic win this evening, always been worried about how we react to defeats when momentum has played such a big factor to our season. After three defeats this season, we've come back and won the next league game. Sounded like we fully deserved it tonight too.

8pts clear of third, absolutely delighted and hope we can keep it up.

Yeh will take that 2-1 win there against a not bad Hull team and shame about West Ham 2-0 to keep them on our tails but we won and that's all that counts!!!

Bring On Donny Next On Sat!!!

COYR :D!!!

top 2 go up last time i looked its best to have the top 2 keep winning so a gap between 2nd and 3rd becomes larger.

The win streak continues. Really happy with this win in particular, we bounce back after losing to Bristol and from 1-0 down. Just hope Saints don't make me so nervous next time!

West Ham beating Boro is a good result in my eyes. I'd prefer to widen the gap on 3rd/4th than West Ham as they will probably make the top 2 anyway.

Difficult game against a strong Hull side. Glad that we didn't collapse after going behind - it did sound like we were 2nd best in the first half.

Squad showed some depth with Harding, de Ridder, Schneiderlin and Barnard getting involved today...

Edit: oh, entirely forgot: now all of our 3 league defeats this season have been followed by a victory. That counts for a lot - every team can lose a game (for various reasons) but we never let it turn in to a run of defeats!

A win but the squad is getting tired. We need to get some good quality signings in January if we are to move on.

Yes, I agree. The team has been together a long time now, and the same group of 13 or 14 have played every game.

We definitely need some new blood in January if we are to keep up the momentum.

Stuck £2 on saints losing at half time, winning at full. £62 back. Nice. I love you saints.

Interesting stat from the taters after we equalised ..... we have only been behind at SMS for 6 minutes all season :scared:

That is just crazy.

I think you should have had even better odds than that mate!!

EXACTLY Dalek, (getting tired )... that was the point of the "why didn't we get someone on loan " threads we had last week - wasn't it ?

I hope Lambert's subbing was only a tactical one, otherwise the " we don't need to sign another striker brigade" will look really sick - won't they ?

That was probably our best win of the season.

At HT we were in big trouble, we didn't penetrate enough in the first half or create much. They were always neat and tidy on the ball and carried a threat, whilst they were solid closing us down with a really fluid and dynamic midfield.. As soon as they nicked the lead when they did it looked a long way back. I felt sorry for Davis because his initial save was stunning.

We came out in the 2nd half like a train, the first 10 mins we stepped up 2 gears and turned the game on it's head. I didn't see that turn around coming based on the first half! All of a sudden we had width, we had pace and penetration in and around the box and it paid off. After that initial spell we kind of gave the impetus back to Hull and they stepped it up and passed it around very well, their pace up top through Maclean caused us a real issue at times.

They were easily the best team we've played at home this year and they will be a force in the 2nd half, no doubts about that. They've got some real quality, which is why this win is so satisfying - we dug in and won that like a team that knows how to win games, from any position. That's what 2 years of winning in L1 with the same players gives you.

Not too bothered WHU won, I'm more pleased that the gap between us and 3rd is increasing. It looks at the moment to be us and WHU going nip and tuck at the top, with the rest playing catch up. I never thought I'd be saying that.....!

My reaction? Yeeesssssssssssssss!

Go and look at that league table - we're now eight points ahead of Cardiff in 3rd :scared:

A decent number of positives to take from that performance - OK, it shouldn't take conceding for the lads to wake up, but there's a good spin to take from coming back in that manner.

That said a few of the lads are looking a little off. Lallana and Barnard clearly need all of the game time they can get (just for two, not picking them out especially) and we could do with somebody to take control of the right flank (de Ridder did well when he came on - a starter yet?) Felt that we were cutting back and faffing around on that side rather than getting the early ball in. Thought Guly looked knackered from the moment the game kicked off! The quality's there, just feels like a few of them need a rest. Certain positions we can easily rotate but bolstering a couple of the others in January should be the aim.

Again on the positive side, our 'plan B' worked very nicely in the second half and we effectively nullified the threat shown in the glimpses from Hull in the first half. As it goes I was fairly impressed with them - came to play the right way and knocked it around quite nicely (to start with at least).

Very important result overall, the impact could be far-reaching for the season. On and on and on, together as one :D

Just got in and have to say not the best performance I've seen, but the points are in the bag and bouncing back after Saturday is a real positive.

Too many players off the boil tonight and a bit of a worry for me over our fringe players. Credit to Hull, they're not a bad team at all and had us under the cosh for long periods. A draw would probably have been fair, but maybe tonight was a trade off against games we should have got something out of.

Players not on form tonight included Lallana (is he still struggling with the injury?), Guly (didn't look interested at times and not sharp, but then gets us back in the game), Hammond (game was passing him by at times). We just didn't seem to get the ball moving as we have in recent matches. Think Hull did a bit of a number on us and could also pass it about themselves.

My other worry was the subs. De Ridder gave us width and an outlet, but I'm still to be convinced he is up to it. Barnard threw himself about a bit, but I can't help but feel he's not the quality we need and Holmes contributed zero.

Sending off looked a but harsh. Definitely a rash challenge, but not sure it was worthy of a red.

Overjoyed to have bounced back, but certainly need to step our game up I think.

Not playing with the panache we were but if I this has been our bad patch it aint so bad.

fraser motm for Saints, Adam good second half, we need him back top form, support complacent 1st ha

Start with SDR and Barny up front Sat, give Ricki a breather on the bench

I expect to see two top quality signings to blend into the squad come January
