Despite not signing a new contract with them, therefore running the risk of BC getting little or no money for him in January or the summer? He's been told, in no uncertain terms, that he's not being sold in Jan' and that they'd sooner he left for nowt in the summer and his goals keep them up. sammysaint Posted 28 November, 2011 Share Posted 28 November, 2011 From what i can gather in interviews, i think hes happy being the big fish in a small pond there but knows if they dont have a pop at the playoffs he will have to leave to further his career. I think we all know we have been tracking him and sharp one of them 2 should be brought in jan.

Mowgli Posted 28 November, 2011 Share Posted 28 November, 2011 Of the strikers we have been linked with he does stand out as the best to me. But Adoma looks a better prospect (assuming we could not go for both). Wasn't Fontaine linked with us as well? Those three plus Kilkenny and James, its no surprise to me they are on a run. One of the understated sides in this league.
revolution saint Posted 28 November, 2011 Share Posted 28 November, 2011 Bristol City don't actually need the money, or need to sell, and financially a summer move would be better for Maynard anyway so it would be easy to see him staying put. The only thing that could change that is if the player comes out and says he wants a move in Jan and the fact he didn't say that in the summer probably means he'll stay. I'd love to sign him up but I hope we don't chase a deal that isn't going to come off, and have other targets in mind.
SNSUN Posted 28 November, 2011 Share Posted 28 November, 2011 IMO a Premiership club will swoop for him in January to boost their relegation hopes. Someone in no immediate danger of getting relegated will get him, Fulham perhaps, or Stoke. I'd love to sign Maynard (it'd show our intent) but I'd also be happy with Jay Rodriguez or to a lesser extent Billy Sharp or Lukas Jutkewicz. Dalek2003 Posted 28 November, 2011 Share Posted 28 November, 2011 If we dont someone else will We should go for him but we won't. We saw that over the summer. We are definitely going to stay up which \i am sure was the main objective when the season started and a play off place will be more than our modest ambition deserves. I'd love to sign Maynard (it'd show our intent) but I'd also be happy with Jay Rodriguez or to a lesser extent Billy Sharp or Lukas Jutkewicz. I really don't rate Rodriguez as a player worth £5-6mill as suggested. Apparently he wants to stay up north was rumoured in the summer along with Sharp. I expect Adkins to pull one out of the bag that we haven't mentioned, although Maynard would be brillant.
revolution saint Posted 28 November, 2011 Share Posted 28 November, 2011 Good players, but would probably need to pay silly money for either of them. TBH I think we've already got to the stage where any striker to improve us will need to be silly money. So it comes down to judgement on an individual talent and potential - Sordel certainly has both but whether he could fulfill it who knows? It's nice being linked with these players though and, only my personal opinion, I think we'll spend the money if it's worth it. Maynard & Rodriguez at 5M+ probably isn't but drop that down a couple of mill and it is.

eelpie Posted 29 November, 2011 Share Posted 29 November, 2011 Hes what we need a striker with pace him and lambert up front would be amazing We largely score goals following astute build up, beguiling and patient (but slowish) inter-passing that frequently confuses the opposition because they do not know who to mark most and where the threat is coming from. But it seems (away from home) teams are wising up and are having more success in disrupting our play and blunting our forwards. Maynard would be a positive. He would add something different. He is fast and direct. Whatever he costs, provided he fits into the team ethic, get him. We will be promoted with him on board. The next half of the season might be tricky if we are not reinforced by a speedy, accurate striker of his calibre.

Chez Posted 29 November, 2011 Share Posted 29 November, 2011 IMO Barnard is not good enough (that should have him scoring tonight) so there is room for improvement up front. I just cant see us forking out over £3m for him when he has five months left of his contract. Well looking at their current financial situation I'd think Bristol City might well accept less unless they're in either promotion( yeah right) or relegation situations come January. They've lost 11.5 million again last season and their player salary costs (assuming that they make up all but about 3 million of the salary mass) come to about 12 million £. EBS1980 Posted 29 November, 2011 Share Posted 29 November, 2011 Sky news today, saying Bristol City made operating losses of £11.5 million ... Add the fact the year before they made a £11.8M loss and £6.5M loss the year before that. I don't think they can afford to lose Maynard for nothing in the summer and surely would have to cash in on him in Jan?
