I think "poor" is a little harsh. By and large dominated the game but poor in final third. James didn't have much to do.

spoke to my mate who is walking back to the train station who described it as very poor, no danger going forward, and couldn't handle the strength and power of their front men, lessons to be learned from this game i think.

Listening to the radio commentary, I don't think I heard Lambert's name mentioned more than a handful of times.

Got shut down I expect, I mean it can't be one of the world's best kept secrets that if you shut Lambert down,Guly is on an off day and Lallana isn't doing much we don't have anything up front.

Their winger roasted Fox and Fonte all game long, he was QUICK - not sure who he was but we should have a look at him in January.

Albert Adomah, we were linked with him when he was at Barnet. Incredibly quick player, so direct - if not always with an end product. I've always liked him.

Thought we were very poor TBH. Adkins got it wrong starting Hammond instead of Morgan. Chaplow going off really hurt us & leaving Morgan on the right was also a mistake.

Had a bad feeling before the game as well. They put 10 behind the ball & hit us with pace. Only Morgan, Cork & Fraser came out of it with any credit. Maybe Adkins should have put Guly to right midfield & played a 5 like they did??

Rickie, Fox, Guly were very poor. Worst of the season performances.

Special word for the ref who gave them absolutely everything. Fella goes through the back of Cork whilst pushing him over - play on. I think on a different day a different ref may not have been so tolerant.

That said we were not great going forward............

Still if you had offered me this position in July I would have bit your hand off!

Need to win on Tuesday to build the momentum again.

Just jumped on the train back now after a few ales. Poor performance as others have stated. Chaplow going off obviously didn't help, but not enough key players performed as they can. Hopefully a kick up the backside to stop any complacency.

Bristol City a good example of the advantages of pace up front. Quite often in the later stages of the 2nd half Barnard & De Ridder kept having to check their runs behind City's defence as our build up play took yet another touch. We need to know when the slow build up will work and when to go more direct - don't think we did that enough towards the end of the game.

Good support from City, but they do seem to get carried away playing us, felt like they'd won their cup final and that is what the skates game will be like * 1000.

Over the top policing levels as always as Ashton Gate.

Bristol remains my favourite city for finding cracking, proper boozers, so the day does have an upside!

Poor display all round, but credit to BCFC, they got at us and knocked us out of our rhythm. Deserved win for them (though just before the second was thinking we might nick a point).

As NA says, we don't get too carried away after a win, or too down after a loss.

Onto Tuesday. Together as one!

Was very frustrating' date=' always taking one or two touches too many and never seemed willing to have a shot.[/quote']

Thats always been his problem, but he was digging something out from no-where previously. He's definitely off the boil, reckon its connected to his recent injury?

Played our usual possession game well enough, but the ball just wouldn't f*cking stick in the final third. Lallana was taking one touch too many for me, and our crossing was woeful.

As others have said though, something just didn't feel right even on the way up. We learn, we move on - we get three points on tuesday.

Cork and Jos on Twitter:

Bad result today and performance. Good thing we got a game tues to forget it. Thanks again for the massive support, despite the result.

Back with both feet on ground again! Have something to show the next games. Hate deflection goals, gutted. Great support though THANKS!

Just got back. I don't remember us having a single chance except the Lallana shot that was just tipped wide of the post. We were poor. Not tight enough at the back for one. When their winger got the ball we got three players to go after him. This left far too much space for their attacking players. Dan Harding would have had a better go at their winger. Losing Chaplow was gutting, and the sub should have been De Ridder. When he did come on, he was shoved up front and had no idea. Lallana was very frustrating to watch. I lost count of the amount of times he gave the ball away. Worst performance I have watched for a while. The worst part was the expected surge at the end never came. Not good enough. I wouldn't have minded losing as much if we had a go at goal.

Adomah definitely tore us a new one right from the start. Never heard much about him before but Fox was given a lesson today. We never got going at all. Usually we have lots of options but today we just couldn't seem to string two passes together. I think you just have to put your hands up and admit that Bristol did a number on us, pure and simple. If Fonte had scored that sitter it might have been different but he put it a good yard wide from six yards.

We did not handle Adamoah or Maynard and were second best for most of the game. Hopefully this is a one off reverse and we will beat Hull on tuesday. one thing I will say is that the referee and linesman[ the Saints end] were so biased towards Bristol it was untrue. There were 10-12 blatant fouls on Saints players which were not even given.

Well as this seems to be the only post match thread, I'll post here. From the radio we sounded toothless up front, passing sounded poor and to many players seemed to be having an off day. Brizzle sounded commited, organized and like they wanted it more than us today. Sounds like Nigel got out thought today (though Chaplow getting injuried seemed to mess up our plan A). Seems those there today are saying the same things.

Still it's only the third loss this season so can't be to downbeat about losing as long as we get back to winning ways against Hull.

Oh and if were going to nick any brizzle players lets have Adamoah rather than Manyard.

In fairness, he has not been as good this year as I had hoped he would be & he missed the target by about 8 foot today with a free header in the 6 yard box................
I have no problem with Fonte's form this season. Still one of our best players. It was a shocking miss though, I admit that much.

From Dave Merrington's commentary, I got the impression that we should have brought another winger on (i.e. De Ridder) for Chaplow instead of Schneiderlin. We had too many players playing out of position in the middle of the park and we needed more width. I wish we'd tried playing Lallana and De Ridder on the left and right and stayed with 4-4-2. Just have to trust Nigel I suppose that he knows what he's doing. He's done well enough up to now tactically to get the best out of the players. A glimmer of light in the darkness - sounded as if Lallana is getting somewhere towards back towards his best (could have scored if Guly wasn't in the way)? Now I'll shut up and let's hear from those of you who were at the game...

Think this result has been on the cards for a bit think the cov result covered over the cracks we could of easily lost at reading and derby, home form should keep us up there but teams have got us sussed when we are playing away , guly should just play at home hasnt got the quality in tracking back when needed away

I don't understand how teams have got us sussed when playing away but not when playing at home. Can you explain?

An observation; Guly was our best player away to Coventry.

Yes but we bossed the game for the most at Cov, but they are a struggling team, we were under pressure for long parts today, Guly cant hold the ball up when needed. Away we are a weaker, think only at Ipswich we have blown the opposition away like we have for the majority at home
