JustMike Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Just got off the phone with Jordan, not good im afraid.... The family, touched by the initial concept and the appearance at the memorial game, dont wish to see it at home games as it is a reminder of their loss. It will only be used at SMS on the tribute game once a year. However, I have arranged to pick it up and get it used at away games which with the help of some people on here will hopefully work. Saint_Jonny Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Well if thats the families wishes we can't moan really can we. Meh. Be good to have it passed around at a few away games though if you can make it happen.
hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Well at least we have finally got an answer. Not sure why they didn't jus say this weeks ago and saved a lot of bother. I hope they can use the flag at away games.
dune Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 I respect the families wishes. That said a lot of fans payed a lot of money for that flag, and the Liebherrs are minted, so IMHO they should pay for a suitable replacement that can be used.

hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 my thoughts exactly! The communication (or lack of) is shocking! I hope you conveyed that view to Jordan.
JustMike Posted 25 November, 2011 Author Posted 25 November, 2011 I hope you conveyed that view to Jordan. yep, he does what he is told from above
hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 yep, he does what he is told from above What and he was told not to reply to you? Or at least to keep you in the loop?
beatlesaint Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 If I could be cynical for one moment, how do they feel about the regular "There's only one Markus Liebherr" chants then ?
JustMike Posted 25 November, 2011 Author Posted 25 November, 2011 If I could be cynical for one moment, how do they feel about the regular "There's only one Markus Liebherr" chants then ? ...or the Markus Liebherr lounge?
beatlesaint Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 ...or the Markus Liebherr lounge? Indeed.
ant Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Would be fantastic to get it going for away matches. Let's make it happen.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 I can certainly agree with that. Talking of my nan isn't so bad, but seeing her face is perhaps slightly different. Still at least the club will come to a compromise and allow us to use it away from home!
hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 ...or the Markus Liebherr lounge? Rather a convenient reason not to use it isnt it.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 So who is going to be given the responsibility to take it to away games ? I assume it will just go up with one of the away coaches ? Or it will ideally need to go to someone who goes to every game.
dune Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 (edited) ...or the Markus Liebherr lounge? I did say during the design thread that it looked sh/t and clearly the family didn't like their father portrayed like the face you see on a bargain bucket. If it had been less naff (i.e no image) I doubt there would have been a problem. Edited 25 November, 2011 by dune
JustMike Posted 25 November, 2011 Author Posted 25 November, 2011 So who is going to be given the responsibility to take it to away games ? I assume it will just go up with one of the away coaches ? Or it will ideally need to go to someone who goes to every game. I have a couple of people from here who I have asked to help out with this. I doubt we will be able to use it at all the away games and I am very interested to see what barriers (if any) we come up against. It will certainly test the health and safety stance the club initially took
shurlock Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Rather a convenient reason not to use it isnt it. So you don't believe the club/family's explanation?

hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 So you don't believe the club/family's explanation? I didn't say that. I'm annoyed that it took so long to explain and would have preferred something from Nicola directly.
Frank's cousin Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Mike... dont feel bad mate, you did a fantastic job and created a fantastic flag that captured the spirit of what we are about really great job. Personnally though, not sure it is such a great idea at away games, without the space and of no meaning to the home fans etc, could easily get in pretty poor condition after a few games - and it is such a great tribute to Markus, think its actually quite cool that it comes out at the mormorial games... keeps it special in a way. I think the problem is, many fans just want a big flag to use because they look pretty awesome on disply, but when you consider the message it conveys, really think it is something special and maybe we should keep it as such? Just a thought.

dune Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 It didn't look anything like that. Yes it did, and i've edited my post to include the images to show that I am right.
Sour Mash Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 If I could be cynical for one moment, how do they feel about the regular "There's only one Markus Liebherr" chants then ? I'm a cynic and I think its a rubbish excuse to keep you off their back. Best thing they could think of after months of procrastinating. They can't be bothered with the hassle of getting it set up and signed off each game and they probably regret agreeing to getting it done in the first place. Its too big to get used at away games. Real shame, as it was a top, top effort from you and others on here to get it sorted, hopefully we'll see the flag on display sooner rather than later.
dune Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 did you read my OP? They liked it! Maybe they were too polite to say it looked really bad. A bit like with the original Ted Bates statue...
hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Yes it did, and i've edited my post to include the images to show that I am right. It's not a black and white issue. In your opinion it does but in mine it looks nothing like it.

I also think I am correct in saying that the family dont attend every game do they ? I thought that was pretty common knowledge. I mean I cant see them attending evening games for a start, so the reason the flag cannot be used for games not attended by the family is .......?
JRM Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 So you don't believe the club/family's explanation? i think it is a bit convenient. the club clearly didn't like the thought of it being used and ponced around with "health and safety" excuses that were proved to be incorrect on the basis that other clubs have them, they also have an empty corner of the ground if they wanted it to be in a place that didn't cover fans. this way they get the fans off their back and can wash their hands of it.
hypochondriac Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Well your opinion is wrong. In your opinion

Griffo Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Away games is the wrong place for it. The only grounds where it will definitely be big enough to put up would be Barnsley (huge away end) Middlesbrough (unless we take a huge following there on the last day) and possibly Blackpool. That's about it off the top of my head. It was a cracking idea, but at away games it could just lead to **** taking from the home fans.

Barnsley, Burnley or Cov only ones in this league where I think it would be useable.
Badger Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Slight aside from the main topic, but do the family attend all home matches then ?
Griffo Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Barnsley, Burnley or Cov only ones in this league where I think it would be useable. Middlesbrough have tons of space but if we have something to play for on the last day then there wouldn't be any room there either. Blackpool only give half of the side stand to away fans at the moment but I'm not sure if the other unused half would be big enough for the flag regardless.
oldsarum Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 You don't have to have it up for the whole game, why not just pass it over the heads fans when the teams come out etc. that's what teams like Liverpool do with their flags and banners
shurlock Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Barnsley, Burnley or Cov only ones in this league where I think it would be useable. Also Hull and in theory Millwall; whether its worth it is another matter.
sussexsaint Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Slight aside from the main topic, but do the family attend all home matches then ? This was also one of the big positives I took from the comments, sounds like they do indeed. I 'm afraid I agree fully with Franks post, once a year is special.
JRM Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 This was also one of the big positives I took from the comments, sounds like they do indeed. I 'm afraid I agree fully with Franks post, once a year is special. once a year at a game attended by 5000 people?
Sour Mash Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Also Hull and in theory Millwall; whether its worth it is another matter. Left Hull and M'Boro off the list as if our form keeps up we'll sell out (maybe not Hull). Millwall will sell out and I'm sure I've never seen any room for it in that Blackpool stand, but could well be wrong.
krissyboy31 Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 once a year at a game attended by 5000 people? Hopefully, what the club will do from now on is designate the nearest home league game to the anniversary of his death as the ML Memorial Trophy game and as well as 3 points the teams are playing for the trophy in front of a full house (no idea whether this is allowed under FL and EPL rules however).
Spudders Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 I struggle to believe that during the time Mike made the club aware of, and was communicating with the club about the flag and the intentions behind it, and while Nicola was even offering to provide funds towards it, that the club/Nicola didn’t discuss it with the family to get their blessing! Mike your initial effort on this, as well as the subsequent effort you’ve put into trying to communicate with the club is commendable, once again thanks for what you did.
yorkie Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 I would like the nation to see the flag on live TV - hence let's take it to Fratton Park next month? 3-weeks to resolve H&S issues and with a police escort to the ground the flag would not be stolen or damaged by the mongs down there. It would be fantastic to see it unveiled at the opening of the derby game on TV - but I doubt the people at FP would allow it...I'd absolutely love it though!

paulwantsapint Posted 25 November, 2011 Posted 25 November, 2011 Give the flag it's next viewing on the day we get promoted So skates at SMS on the day put 2 leagues between us

Thanks to all those that contributed both in money and support. No need for your apology Mike. I'm glad to have contributed and even if they only use it for the tribute game then our message of thanks to the big man is conveyed. Thanks for all your efforts. We won't forget him and what he has done for us and neither will the club or his family. WIFM
