Brighton Charged

Im guessing purely cos of the referee shoving after the award of the penalty? Cant think of owt else....

It'll be a collection of incidents. They had 6 players booked, so that will have automatically brought a charge anyway, and the collective harrassing of the referee on both penalty awards will have added to it.

Barnes should have been sent off for barging into the referee, but as he was given a yellow card during that incident, I don't think he can be punished further.

Brighton have by far the worst disciplinary record in the Championship, with 40 yellow and 2 red cards so far. Leicester are closest to them with 32 yellows and 3 reds.

Pompey have committed the most fouls (208), with 31 yellows and 2 reds.

We've had 20 bookings (3 - Fonte, de Ridder, Cork; 2 - Hammond; 1 - Connolly, Schneiderlin, Richardson, Hooiveld, Lambert, Seaborne, Chaplow, Guly, Fox) and 2 reds (Chaplow and Hammond)

Good. They hold the game in contempt -Poyet's post match interview summed up their attitude. Deflected attention from their disciplinary record which is the worst in the league by saying that nothing happens when the England superstars crowd and harass refs and also implied that he would have been more upset if his players didnt angry with the decisions.

I completely agree with them that the ref was simply awful... however it is apparently their second charge already this season and their disciplinary is woeful.

Yes he was awful, and Fonte was clearly outside the area, but Brighton seem happy to overlook the fact that even the unbiased BBC web site commentator thought we'd had 2 stone cold certain penalties not given before the one that was ..and another maybe later on. So overall they had reason to feel aggrieved.

"Though, you'd have to look at the cards

Dunk Yellow - Questionable whether it was a foul, but I don't think it was so clear that it can be deemed unjust. In this instance you can't blame poor refereeing, he was booked for the foul, not his reaction to the following wrong penalty decision.

Taricco Red - Can totally argue against this, he was reacting to an embarrasingly bad decision. No, you can't swear at a ref, but in the face of such injustice, when the ref has been swearing, perhaps this should be taken into consideration.

Navarro yellow- Can't really question this. It wasn't about the injustice of Walton's decision, it was a foul. He may have got the ball first, but it was not a good tackle.

Calderon yellow- This, like dunk, was for a foul and was born out of the players frustration with Walton's ineptitude. It was, however, not a foul. So, shouldn't really count.

Noone yellow - I don't remember this one, i says on espnsoccernet it was for dissent after conceding a foul. Given decisions made by Walton, I'd say this is probably mitigated.

Barnes yellow - Dissent as above.

So, I would argue that the FA should look at the game and look at Barnes, Noone, and Taricco's cards as a reaction to bad refereeing, Calderon's as a mistake by the ref, and should dismiss the charges, while reminding the club that although they understand the players' frustrations, the referee's decision is final, and dissent, even dissent to a poor decision, is not acceptable, and next time there won't b such leniency.

And if we have so many yellows and they include dissent, the club should then face charges, regardless of the performance of the ref. "

Lol

Was the Noone one not for when he took out Schneiderlin's knee. Whoever it was it looked very nasty from where I was sat and could have been a red on another day.

That NSC thread is interesting. You've got some people expressing concern at they're disciplanary record thsi season being completely shot down by others.

Thinm my favourite comment is:

As for the Navarro 'tackle', watching it again on the FL show highlights, Navarro had already kicked the ball before the Southampton player fell over his outstretched leg.

Guess a fall over his outstretched leg is identical to two sets of studs into the backside of the ankle!

Whilst Poyet may be a c^nt, I can't disagree with him on that point. The likes of Ferdinand and Terry regularly expect to be on 'the panel' with a referee and linesman when an issue is debated, and seem to get away without critiscism.

"Albion have been charged by the FA with misconduct following their 3-0 defeat at Southampton last Saturday.

The Seagulls have been charged "for failure to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion."

They have until 4pm on Monday to respond.

The charge relates to the SECOND penalty awarded by referee Peter Walton, according to the paperwork supplied to the club by the FA.

According to the match statistics Brighton only committed 9 fouls: nearly a yellow card for each foul!

There are a couple of posters on North Stand that keep bleating on about them not deserving so many yellows as their number of fouls is comparable to most teams. They don't seem to understand the difference between a foul that gets a free kick and a foul that is bookable offence.

Yeah, Saints conceded about 15 - isn't it strange that against a team known for gamesmanship we conceded a lot of minor fouls not worthy of a yellow card ? Anyone would think their players were playing to win free-kicks by going over easily. Not that I would suggest Craig Mackail-Smith would tuck up his legs and keel over whenever pressured on the ball near the wing, of course.

To avoid hypocrisy, I'll also mention that Hammond's rubbish dive was hilariously poor though, from the Northam it loked like he was running away from the path of the ball towards Harper.

Pleased Harper has returned to Newcastle now, I can go back to liking him again. Also nice to have a keeper you can actually chant "you fat bastard" at without any sense of irony.
