Does anyone see the point/enjoy goal music ?

Absolutely cannot stand it. It's sanitised, Americanised b0llocks. What with that, all-seaters, boring atmospheres (not necessarily at Saints, just football in general) and those ridiculous, childish mascots, it's not long before we'll be getting cheerleaders and commercial breaks every five seconds.

Why are people saying it being "Americanised" is a bad thing, you ****ing xenophobes.

Frankly I hate goal music because it's cheesy as hell but check out the EDL members going on about it being bad because they'd expect it from another country.

Being Americanised is a bad thing because a) it's not our culture and b) American culture is cheesy, false, childish, immature and artificial with no history or tradition.

Yeah, EDL members are really famous for their hatred of America, aren't they? Anti-Americanism is closely associated with the pro-European far left, so it's completely at odds with the EDL. Idiot.

Quite a sweeping statement of a whole culture, there. You're either a bit stupid, or ultranationalist which would make you more stupid. Stop trying to justify your hatred for Americans, it's just ****ing goal music.

Can't stand it either. Think a few saying they can't hear it must have bad hearing or something! You get the initial cheer of a goal being scored then the tune starts to drown it out after that.

As for the American thing i don't see how someone saying that is xenophobic or anti-american? It is an american thing that they do with basically every sport. Reason they do it is to try and help with the atmosphere. They try to get people to sing and shout. Try and make some noise. It isn't needed with football here as we make noise ourselves. For football it doesn't fit. Pointing that out isn't anti-american. It is anti-gimmick.

Against Brighton I was probably going mental for about 20 seconds after the goal, this culminated with me ending up on the floor as a guy from 3 rows back decided to crowd surf! So no, I didn't hear it.

Celebrations in Block 41 are getting a bit OTT, but funny nonetheless.

It's just goal music that is bloody annoying AND Americanised, which as previously stated is a bad thing for an English game. My spellchecker is now trying to tell me to put a "Z" in Americanised, but I won't, I refuse to!! ;)

You moron - I love America and go there often, and don't exactly fit the EDL stereotype member, having a black wife and mixed race child.

It clearly comes from the USA, and it occurs in nearly every sport over here. I fully understand that it may not be desirable to adopt it for the English game. The culture IS different. But all these comments about the American culture on this board are out of order. Cultures are different - Yes. Let's however leave the judgement to the people living in them.

I can judge what ever culture I want. Some people don't like French culture. Some don't like English culture. I happen to not like American culture. That's just my opinion. And it's got nothing to do with it being different. I like many foreign cultures, most in fact. Just not America's.

Here you go, Rickies penalty last weekend

At 40secs you can clearly hear the music. That is amongst the fans screaming and going mental. They then start singing along with it....

If people don't notice it then fair play, wish i didn't notice it!

Then I'm sure you realise that not all culture in America is, I quote, "cheesy, false, childish, immature and artificial with no history or tradition", and thus to brand goal music as bad because it is "Americanised" is a stupid thing to do?

For the record the EDL comment was (obviously) flippant, as were most of the "it sux cause it's American" comments, I'm sure. But American culture is "cheesy, false, childish, immature and artificial with no history or tradition"? Dear me.

From the clip above I couldn't make out what it was.

I was back for the Watford game and we scored 4 times - did they play it then - or am I in the "going too bloody mental to notice brigade" and/or too p!ssed too notice - both are highly likely.

Do they play it for away teams as well - a bit away teamist if they don't - I'm sure Brighton fans would have been complaining in their droves of they'd scored and we didn't play a bit of YMCA for them to dance to!

Didn't need it back in the day .... if ... nah ... make that when the away team scored ... there would be about 10 seconds of stunned silence followed by "You're gonna get your feckin head kicked in" aimed at any pockets of away fans. Took ages for Beeb to figure it out and try and mute it on MOTD LOL

Away fans point out it's cringeworthy though.

Losing teams fans point ot lots of things to put down the club / fans that have just beat the such as........... thats the worst we have ever played. saints arent anythign special the bubble will burst. Our defenders wer crap not that it was a cracking goal. **** ground, **** fans, **** whatever etc etc etc/.

I don't like it but if I had to guess I would say Nigel is behind it. I do not think it is for us fans, I think it is connected to sports science. The problem with sports science is that much of it comes from the USA and can seem a bit cheesy for our culture. I think NA may be the best manager we have ever had but there is no denying he is cheesy.*

I think it was Burley that first introduced it at St Mary's although I may be wrong.*

The theory behind it is, if you can link a set sound to success, it makes it easier to visualise that success (in this case scoring a goal). I would not be supprised if NA plays song 2 in the dressing room just before the start of each half.*

Although I hate it, I think NA walks on water and if he wanted the team to warm up in leotards with huge ginger wigs while listening the Grease medley sung by previous Xfactor runners up, I would reluctantly accept it as the price of success.*
