Window Cleaner Posted 23 November, 2011 Share Posted 23 November, 2011 In most civilised countries Skate FC would have been shut down by now and resurrected by a bunch of well meaning amateurs in the Sunday leagues or similar. That's what happened to Strasbourg, fell from Europe to CFA2(not much better than park football) in about 4 seasons. Other than in the UK if you can't pay your debts you are f*cked.

Matthew Le God Posted 23 November, 2011 Share Posted 23 November, 2011 How can you consistently land cr@p owners? Because only a crook would want to take on the mess of another crook and they are caught in an endless cycle since Manadaric in the late 1990's.. Any legitimate investor would put Pompey low down on a list of clubs to buy.
hypochondriac Posted 23 November, 2011 Share Posted 23 November, 2011 How can you consistently land cr@p owners? Because their debts are still so large that it doesn't make any possible financial sense to take them over. You would never make your money back so whoever has bought them will do so for reasons other than making a legitimate profit.

Channon's Sideburns Posted 24 November, 2011 Share Posted 24 November, 2011 'Nutjobs' or not, when the smoke clears, the Pompey Takeover Thread will be viewed as a work of genius, investigative minds, and a mighty p1ss take on our near neighbours. Let's face it, could they have managed a similar thread about us? No - because although our recent history hasn't been perfect, it hasn't been one continual car crash like theirs. patred44 Posted 24 November, 2011 Share Posted 24 November, 2011 Surely the Football League and FA have to take some responsibility here.. They have twiddled their thumbs, made ineffectual noises, but as yet have not taken any real action to stop this club trading in this manner. Their, so called, Fit and Proper tests have not stopped a succession of owners who have quite honestly cheated the system. They won a trophy with a squad of players they stole from other clubs, with no intention or wherewithal to pay either club or player. Even their promotion and Premier League stay was tainted with the smell of dodgy dealings. Yet, except from the odd transfer embargo, not one single point has taken off them. I would go further.. I would expunge their Cup 'win' from the records, they didn't win it they cheated, as much as they cheated the tax man, and no two ways about it. Obviously I, have a vested interest in Pompey because of my late fathers connections. I will always be proud of his achievements with them. It makes me feel literally sick to think that those who picked up their medals against Cardiff have a cheek to compare themselves with those who won the cup fairly in 1939. SO5 4BW Posted 24 November, 2011 Share Posted 24 November, 2011 Good post Patred - I've often thought that we should campaign for that FA Cup to be taken off them. Marseille might be a precedent with the European cup in the 90s. Like you say, I hate the comparison between their 'win' in 2008 compared with our lads in '76 - and even with theirs in 1939. A different era, but you couldn't get much more of a contrast than Jimmy Guthrie (PFC skipper in 39, helped start the players' union) and Sol Campbell (ace mercenary, loyal only to his bank balance) Who was your Dad then? Marseille certainly isn't the same thing, don't think they lost their European Cup anyway. They lost a League title because they actually paid opposition players to "lever le pied",ie not play up to their true level.Nothing to do with financial skullduggery, just straight out bribery. We can laugh about the details happening behind the scene, but how have they actually been punished so far? Village Saint Posted 24 November, 2011 Share Posted 24 November, 2011 I feel there are some strange attitudes towards Pompey. It can only be good for Hampshire football to keep them going and we should play our bit. Clearly they still have major major debt issues and a corrupt owner. Without significant investment they will probably be gone by the end of this season and I think we are honour bound to intervene. In a spirit of support for them I would like to see Saints buy Pompey (we can easily afford it) as long as the Football League will allow us to use them as a nursery club - say playing in League 2 or the Blue Square. It would be a nice gesture and would ensure that they kept going; so presumably we would also get the undieing appreciation of their fans.

If we bought Nottarf we'd probably make more money by offering day trips to smash the place up a bit or crap on the pitch at a tenner a throw, excluding obligatory coach transport at £42 of course. Unfortunately though, you would also have to pay the wages, which is a different matter, and probably where the last 5 or 6 owners have got it spectacularly wrong...! Let's face it they should have been closed down for Insolvent Trading BEFORE they got relegated or went into admin, probably one of the worst legal performances in ages by HMRC. The fact that they have limped on means that they have now wasted two years. Those 21 months could have been enough for AFCP to have been established and (God Forbid) IF they had started in the BSQ they could have been almost back in the FL by next season with everyone calling them plucky and mistaking their resurrection with that of AFC Wimbledon. No they've wasted that rebuilding time and faced further humiliation, and of course it has now co-incided with our remarkable turn around in fortunes. Karma is a b1tch and revenge is best served slowly and painfully. Let the cheats struggle on and miss the chance to start next year in BSQ as well

Apart from the 9 they were deducted in the Premier League, albeit they'd have still been relegated even with those points. I was disappointed at the FL's acceptance of their CVA, they weren't league members the previous season and should have at least got -10 for being in admin when they joined the FL.
