Mark Wright - Saints Legend

He was a great player for us, and to think, he was only a make-weight in a deal that bought Keith Cassells (who? I hear the younger supporters shouting) to Saints.

I'll be honest, i recall it being the other way round entirely but am happy to be corrected

Awesome player, and I still hate Craig Johnson (Johnston) to this day for ruining our chances of winning the 86 world cup!

I thought it was Shilts that broke his leg, but I also genuinly thought Cassells was our main man, the ravages of time may be taking its toll on the old grey matter.

My site is sponsoring Mark Wright when he plays for the England Legends this Sunday!

Best centre half we have had?[/quote

A reasonable defender, A legend !. I dont think so. Full of indiscipline and loved him-self too much.

Just goes to show how desperate England were at the time.

Not to be associated in the same breath, with Dave Watson and/or Chris Nicholl

I spoke to Manny Andruszewski about Mark a few months back.

Said he initially regretted signing for Saints, he'd turned down United and a lot of other big teams, but he settled in with some good friends and Manny said he loved it. Apparently Mark himself is a really nice guy, though I hear he's very much fallen out of love with football recently.

Those were the two I was thinking of.

Great player but I would not put him in the legend category. I think 170 games is pretty modest really. Best centre half? Perobably behind McGrath, Claus, Killer and Monkou (prob in that order). Great character though - one of the better ones to put on a red n white shirt for sure

You will be in a very small group, he played over 200 games for us during our most successful period and went on top play over 500 games at top flight, captained Liverpool and played for an England side that started to qualify for tournements again. he was one of my favourite players and I was gutted when he went to Derby and have hated them ever since.

Correct.

I am absolutely floored by the poster who rates Claus Lundekvam and Statue Monkou as better central defenders than Mark Wright. Not even regulars in their respective national sides, McGrath was just a thug(footballing wise).Paul Bennett was a better

centre back than any of those 3 .

It was wright that broke his leg not shilton.

Great player but acted like a complete c ock just before and after he left, i remember him whinging in the paper about what horrible fans saints had . Seems he got too big for his boots. They were labelled mark tight and peter ****ton when they both went to Derby, still love shilts though.
