spyinthesky Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Our away support was 3,008 a very tidy following However were the numbers restricted or was the the allocation requested by our Ticket office? Notice that West Ham took 6,000 which is well in excess of the normal 10% of capacity guideline
Saint Garrett Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 I'm sure Coventry were quite happy that they were getting a few more people in their stadium. I think we would have been offered more seats as there was loads of seats to our right that were spare, we just didnt use them. 3008 is still a very decent following though. A friend was talking about Coventry the other day saying that to get a bit more money into the club they are allowing their fans to text in through the game as to who they should bring on and tactics. Not sure if this is bull**** or not to be fair. Funny if true though.
Turkish Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 (edited) Leicester took a similar number as West Ham, i believe away teams can get the whole end if needed. Edited 21 November, 2011 by Turkish
This Charming Man Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 You can have the whole away end if needed. 3,008 is pretty good by our standards and we didn't fill the section we were given anyway. WHU took 6k as they're a far bigger club than us. Leicester took 6k as it's 20mins down the road.

Saint Garrett Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Surely the away fans can get them to take off their best player....especially in the case of Leicester and WHU taking 6000 there...
Minty Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Good friend is a Coventry fan and came down yesterday - he told me about this texting idea and how fans are cringing at it... they can't believe anyone vaguely into football could seriously come up with such an idea and expect it to be taken seriously. Funny you should say that...... I've heard from a good source at Saints that there are planning to do the same. Only this will be fans texting the song they want sung at certain parts of the game. Business can also sponsor a song with obviously the most popular song being the dearest. I'd imagine text will cost about £2.50 each once a text tax has been applied. The winning song will be announced over the tannoy with the words put up on the screens. For example; "And the song to be sung on 10 minutes, sponsored by Microsoft with 4,593 votes, is Oh When The Saints go marching in, all together now, 'oh when the saints'......" No joke.... JRM Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 West Ham are not a big club and certainly not "far bigger" that Saints. in terms of number of support, yes they are. Away numbers they are up there with the best. 6200 at Coventry for example. Most of their away games so far have sold out to season ticket holders. Sour Mash Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Problem is our ticket office don't exactly push or encourage the sale of away tickets do they?
Berkshire Saint Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Problem is our ticket office don't exactly push or encourage the sale of away tickets do they? That appears to be the main problem. Don't think the OS ever mentioned anything about ticket sales after the original article mentioning an allocation of 1500 or so. A bit more coverage around getting numbers up for away games would be good.
teamsaint Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Alas, yes, they are. how is whu a much bigger club? I would put it at "somewhat" bigger. They get attendances that are maybe 20% bigger. They get relegated from the PL from time to time. how often do they finish in the top half of the PL? IMO : clubs much bigger than saints include spuds, everton, Leeds, newcastle, villa. clubs somewhat bigger might include Forest, sunderland, whu. Ok, its not going make a difference to loads more going, but its still a pretty basic thing to f**k up and ain't exactly going to help either. SaintBobby Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 Not sure Forest are "somewhat bigger". Saints are in the region of 12th-20th biggest club in the land I'd say. With a fair chance to grow. SFC's marketing effort is, however, truly lamentable.
doggface Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 West ham are a yo yo club. We have been an established club pl that nearly sunk without a trace. Their ground only holds 35k so stadium size is similar. Great away following recently mind. They had some great players in the 60's. They are not as big as they like to think and only slightly bigger than us IMO

It was probably just a trial run making sure the "sold out" tab works for when we are ripping it up in the premier league next season. Are newly expand 50k stadium will be selling out in minutes every week. Need to make sure we get these things right now.
