Aardvark Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 According to yesterday's (ever reliable!) Echo, Barcelona are sniffing round Gareth Bale - a figure of £50,000,000 was mentioned. Ignoring the possible merits or otherwise of this story, does anyone know whether Southampton would benefit from any sell on clause from such a move? Unfortunately by taking Forecast and settling early we forfeited any potential % of sale clause.
beatlesaint Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 I cant recall if we did a deal with Spurs like we did with Arsenal over Walcott when we had our money troubles. If we did then there is every chance any sell on clause would have been made null and void.

Saint Martini Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 That was for the sell-on percentage. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we still get the fee for Bale playing for us when he was between 12 and 18?
Evil Monkey Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 50m?? Christ. They could nearly afford Richard Chaplow for that kind of money.
Saint Stimp Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Unfortunately by taking Forecast and settling early we forfeited any potential % of sale clause. If it was a 25% sell on clause Forecast could end up costing us £12,500,000. Ouch.

Huntingdon Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 I don't think there's any sell on clauses for Bale or Dyer It's clear we were making some truly appalling decisions in our final season leading up to administration. I'd like to know who was responsible for sacrificing Bale's future add-ons in exchange for Forecast. Was it purely Rupert, or were others involved? Whoever agreed to it should be ashamed of themselves, it was an absolutely terrible decision

DanW Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 If you trust Football Manager's accuracy... in my FM2010 game (I'm a few years behind, I know) when Bale got sold we received 10%.

I for one am very glad of that decision, we kept trading, we kept our heads above water, and we got ourselves into a position where our saviour stepped up at the 11th minute of the 11th hour. I've never looked back since then and I don't think you should either.

To say that we made appalling decisions is easy now - try making those same decissions when the writing was on the wall - not now we have a wealthy benifactor.
