saintchris23 Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 Simply unplayable today. I've never seen him run so much. At one stage in the second half, he chased down SIX Brighton passes to the extent we won the ball back on the half way line. All this from a player in the striker position. His touch and vision along with his decision making were outstanding today. The rumour is that he can score goals too.
Elias Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 He's got a real work ethic even when it isn't really his day.
saints-cris Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 I think you have to see him live to appreciate him better. His runs off the ball are very clever and his off the ball efforts are class. I also think hes actually quite a big guy, him and Lambert are a powerful front pair. miserableoldgit Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 It is ridiculous the amount of threads that we have on Guly. He really does, for some reason, provoke differing views like no other player. The guy is brilliant, and is a very big part of what is happening to the team at the moment, and yet there are still people who cannot see this. There were some sat behind me today moaning at him when his flicks and lay-offs weren`t being picked up by other players because they hadn`t read them. I am glad that NA is picking the team! Gis Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 Loved the way he still managed to come away with the ball when he received a pass and was immediately closed down by three Brighton players by the Itchen touchline in the second half. His close control is exceptional at times. And yes, the time he chased down the ball as Brighton passed it from player to player at the back right across the pitch. I don't think it was Guly that eventually won it back but it was definitely Guly that unsettled them enough for the mistake to happen. The way Saints defend in the opposition's half has been a revelation this season and so much is down to Lallana and Guly running after everything when we lose the ball. notnowcato Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 I think his overall game has improved leaps and bounds. Sometimes his first touch still reminds me a bit of Carlton Palmer but I think that will improve. His link up play through the middle at times today was unplayable. scotty Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 Rickies hat trick obviously makes him man of the match, but Guly was terrific today. Control, distribution, movement off the ball, all top drawer.

sammysaint Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 I think to be honest he posses quality to be given a fair go at the prem, but realistically he would be better as a sub that comes on i would rather have a new proven prem striker upfront with Lambo if we go up and if we wanna stay up it would be better if he was a 3rd choice striker. Saint Garrett Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 He frustrates me like no other player. Sometimes he is fantastic but sometimes he is anonymous. Credit where it's due though, he's been brilliant so far this season apart from 1/2 away games which i've been to. But he is key to how we play and his vision along with Lamberts is where so many of our goals are created.

kpturner Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Great player in a great team. Have we had it so good (80's aside)? I want to make it back to the PL, but I rather enjoy lording it at the moment - which we won't if we get promoted.
paulwantsapint Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Guly is a cross between Carlton palmer .& mlt He has palmers work rate & occasional 1st touch which makes you think how Mlt's brain , ability to do nothing for 94 mins then do something amazing to win a game & occasional tackling ideas that make you scream out WHY ? But if he had palmers work rate & mlt 1st touch he would never be playing for saints

Even world class players like Robinho or Kaka can be poor in certain teams
IN MY DAY Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Ever since he's been put up top with Rickie's he's decided he's not giving up his place for anyone and that has showed in his play. His tracking back across the Brighton back four was awesome and deserving of the applause.
Dangerous Albert Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 The only thing which marred yesterday for me was the idiot somewhere behind me in Itchen block 2 who insisted on shouting "Guly is s**t, rubbish" etc throughout the whole game... Yes, I`ve got "Statler and Waldorf" sitting behind me in the Kingsland who always pick up when Guly plays a bad ball but never praise the good things that he does. Drives me mad. Oh, and yesterday they were criticising Steve De Ridder every time that he used his tricky close controlled ball-work, which he did a lot , as " almost beating himself". Unbelievable. Mozz Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 I have two people like that behind me in block 42. Every game this season has consisted of "What did we sign that c*** for?!?" "Guly you're s***" and so on. My personal highlight was one of them shouting "NO!!!" as he took a shot in the Watford game. A second later they were celebrating as the ball nestled in the bottom corner.

I have done this before, not necessarily with Guly but there's always one or two players that are too keen to take the shot for themselves rather than go for the wasy pass. I've looked a right fool a couple of times when the selfish option has worked

Saint Garrett Posted 27 November, 2011 Share Posted 27 November, 2011 Sounds like he had a shocker today from what I've read.... From what I've seen of him when away from home, he's been less than convincing......but then I havent been to every game so cant comment on a few games. Home games he's been superb....Love him but hate him..so inconsistent but can pop up with a special moment.....Still unconvinced.
