vince Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 I know, and poyet brushes that and the sending off as "not want to applaud the referee". Disgusting. Any idea of what Taricco said? The players around him didn't exactly look to back him up. Don't know what he said, but on the highlights you can see him giving it the "in my pocket" hand motions that Chappers tweeted after the game that Taricco said to him and AL as he walked off. What a kn*b.
Barry the Badger Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Although not it's biggest fan, one thing I do love about facebook is that football banter is immortalised and stored away. I have just paid a timely revisit to comment on a status a Brighton supporting mate put up in August when they went top. He wrote "Would just like to mention to any Saints or Pompey supporters out there Brighton Super Brighton!!!!!!" and now it is forever there making him look like a knobhead. dubai_phil Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 1st game of season. What to say? Stunning, awesome, contemptuous. Better than anything I had imagined from reading and listening. 1st half we played like a pre season friendly. Brighton held their own but we were trying ridiculous flicks and nudges, but you could see every so often they lost possession and went up two gears. Second half, brushed them away. Goals should and could have flooded in. LMFAO at the penalty - was a half grass colour stripe OUTSIDE the box from our line right on the line in Chapel it was perhaps 4 feet outside. Fonte only just made his hair into the box on the 4th roll! Good to get some video of the penalties!, nice to meet a couple of TSW members before and after In 40 years of watching Saints I have seen us be embarrassed away from home a few times, but I have NEVER seen a Saints team so totally embarrass an opposition side like yesterday. Towards the end the body language of the Brighton players was like watching a Pub team who are 8-0 down at HT in a wet and windy local league game. Contemptuous performance from us. Stunning. If we had felt bothered we looked like we could have scored any second.2 pens & 2 or 3 other good shouts! No idea we were THIS good.Believe peeps. MoM - Guly - showed energy flicks and nudges caused trouble. But then you have to say Rickie led the line so well, took his chances, but then you have to say Richardson, covered every blade of grass, stunning cross for the first goal made it look simple. AL & Chappers felt they were on their B games, played very well, but too many flicks didn't work. AL covered so much ground. Jos at the back? What a find he has been reduced CMS to long range whingeing. All packed back at Gatwick, delayed 30mins but who cares I am SOOOOOO glad I saw that type of Saints performance in my lifetime. St_Tel49 Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 (edited) Couldn't quite break them down first half but I always felt that Brighton were playing flat out whereas we still had a couple of gears left. I don't know where you all saw the first half penalties because there was nothing seriously wrong with any of his decisions, unless you're biased. Second half, our first penalty must have been a foul because the lino gave it as well but he didn't put his flag across his chest and Walton never gave him the chance. It might have been on the edge of the penalty area but I'd like to see it again. The second looked like a clear trip to me, but I was 100 yards away. Kelvin never had a shot to save and Brighton looked what they are, a mid-table team. redder freak Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 A great final 45. Forgettable first 45. Was very uncertain before kick off but glad of the 3 points. CMS was a bit of a handful but glad he didn't get any service from his team otherwise we'd have been in trouble. Great game, fans were definitely the 12th man (we don't need no referee on our side when we've got the fans!) Nice one!

Whitey Grandad Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Few would disagree that Fonte was outside of the penalty area when he was fouled and brought down. So was it a penalty? The rules of the game say that a free kick is awarded if a player trips an opponent and that a penalty kick is awarded if the offence is comitted by a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of the ball. Although Fonte was not inside the area, if Dunk who committed the foul was inside the area, that suggests a penalty would be the correct decision. Have to say I'm not clear whether Dunk had crossed the line into the area when he tripped Jose with a trailing foot. There's something in this argument. Like everybody else, all I saw was Fonte outside the area but having watched the replay several times you can see that the defender pulls Fonte's arm and ends up inside the area whilst still pulling it. The linesman flags for the foul but not for a penalty so it was Walton's decision. Even after meeting for a discussion he sticks to that decision. The handball was not intentional, the shirt tugging was six of one etc. Hammond's dive was embarrassing, Rickie made the most of the trip (or attempted trip) for the second penalty but you couldn't say that it was wrong. The mugging at the far post is harder to forgive. In the end our pressure told and Brighton cracked.

Leicestersaint Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Another great win! It's incredible when you have supported Saints for 50 years. rallyboy Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Poyet's main problem is his previous views on the game are so ridiculous that I don't bother to listen to him anymore. Anyone who seriously thought we were like Dagenham last season is lucky to get a job in cleaning the kit, let alone coaching. He was made to look an idiot by Nige. Again. He needs to leave mind games to the experts, the sort of people who put the Withdean victory footage on the big screen prior to kick off. I left the ground and legged it straight to the Carter gig at Brixton where someone else had obviously done the same, and they were still in the Saints shirt. I did shout red army across an army of crowd-surfers but to no avail. And Phil, we have been dominating teams like that on a very regular basis at home, the main problem for opposition is they just can't get the ball off us. Very happy days. That wasn't our best performance of the season at home by a long way. We were much better against Boro and WHU. Leeds was pretty good, but as it was the first game of the season no-one realised it was going to become the norm. Boro looked totally deflated during our 26 pass move that set up our thiird goal against them.

Charlie Wayman Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Excellent work. Brighton didn't really have a sniff of a chance at goal all afternoon. These international breaks seem to have a negative effect on our team, we lose momentum; the first half was very slow and laboured. It took us a while to get back up to speed, from then on it was always one way and we should have scored three more but Harper was too good. Maybe we should sign him for cover? West End Saint Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 What a game I have to say unlike some I enjoyed the 1st half it was a great tactical battle between 2 sides that are very good on the ball I thought we looked much more threat than them & should have had at least 1 pen 1st half. 2nd half was just sublime the 1st goal was quality I thought the roof was coming off fantastic celebrations then we played some great football the passing & movement was top notch we should have scored some more goals. So far this season I have been blown away by the quality of the football we play great credit to NA & the team it is a joy to watch & long may it continue up the Saints

But yeah, the guys around me (not just the TSW's) really were a lot more aware of what we are now doing. Another word I'd use to describe our players and play would be Intelligent. Maybe some of that is rubbing off on parts of the ground at last, no prizes for guessing which section will be the last to "Get It" Agree with Kingsbridge though - you REALLY have to see it to understand. Saturday was impressive and what really topped it off for me was when Guly went for a ball almost on the halfway line by Kingsland, chased the player with the ball who had to let it go,chased the next player who also had to let it go and onto the third player who lost it to Hammond, who passed it back to Guly who then went forward again. I can also point out to the regular readers that the lads were as tuneless as me when it came to singing (which they did). I wasn't my normal self, could it have been because I was terrified that if I opened my mouth to say - "Come on You Saints", some cop would video me and accuse me of shouting "he takes it the Brighton way" or something?... How can you all enjoy football in such a police state? Or was it because we had such a long chat with other lads at the Chippy that I never got time for any beers so I wasn't my usual rambling self? The problem seems to be we seem to be almost in denial of how good we are at the moment. Perhaps if we talk ourselves down a bit it won't hurt so much when it all goes wrong as we all seem to be convinced it will... Perhaps it won't... I'm 46... some of the best, most consistent football of my lifetime.. i think the only other seasons i can remember this sort of buzz are 1989/90 when we finished 7th but were up there playing amazing football under Chris Nicholl, playing 4-2-4 with front line of Le Tiss, Rod Wallace, Rideout and Shearer and brilliant Cup wins getting the the league cup ¼ finals and FA Cup 5th round winning 3-1 away at Spurs in the 3rd round. 2003 was good with the momentum building up to the cup final. For all generations though this home run is unheard of, 20 straight home wins will never be bettered in my life time I am sure, wonder if we can keep the run going and break the league record? It does annoy me when so many people are streaming out the exit in injury time and the final whistle goes in front of a half full ground,

Can understand it a bit more for midweek games and could understand it when we're sh**e, but the players can't be massively impressed after yet another quality home win to see the stands almost half empty and people rushing out as quick as they can/ Stay and give them a proper round of applause that these performances deserve, as some have said further up the thread, I don't think some of our support appreciate quite how good these current performances really are. Am sometimes guilty of this for midweekers - getting the 10pm back to London is a lung-buster at the best of times - even worse when there's a stack of injury time and/or you're in the itchen and they've closed off the northam car park. As I say, can more than understand it mideweek, often have to do it myself, but can't believe THAT many people are in THAT much of a rush on a Saturday afternoon. It looks s**t and shows a lack of appreciation of the sort of effort and performances the side are putting in.
