I didn't know about the Dagenham thing until the person next to me at the game told me what it was so that was funny!

Enjoyed that (I know we don't care about Brighton and all that but I wanted us to smash them today). God knows about all the penos there were so many shouts I lost count, Fonte was deffo pulled back but outside the area. Brighton were jut like last season niggly, whingey and generally unimpressive (it really is about time the myth they play good football is put to rest). CMS looks a shadow of the player who tore up league one last season.

We looked class. Brighton defended well in the 1st half making it hard to break them down but had nothing going forward. Cork was my MOTM breaking up the Brighton play and putting in loads of good tackles. Once we got the goal it was all one way.

Too much homophobic chanting today. Particularly embarrassing as they were going hand-in-hand with songs about Poyet being racist. He's ignorant, you're ignorant.

And singing "and now you're gonna believe us and now you're gonna believe us and now you're gonna belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve us.....you take it up the arse" sounds like you're bragging about winning someone round to the idea of bum sex. Weird.

Never heard any of that. Which part of the ground were singing that?

one little down side for me....the chump behind me who insisted on calling Guly " a bag of ****e".

Unbelievable. If guly is what the guy says, can't wait till we get somebody decent up front !!

Otherwise, it really is a LOT of fun at the moment. in 40 + years can't really remember anything like this in the league. Maybe the season we topped div1 for 7 weeks, or the autumn of 79, but this really is the biz.

Enjoy.

Brighton got what they deserved, there were times in the first half there midfield players were marking Lambert and Guly and the center halfs dropped

Wasn't he with Posh?

Does Beckham know?

Seriously the triangle of players they put up from frustrated our defence in the first half so we could not play from the back like we usually did. Credit to Nigel for changing it. We showed we can play long ball as well as short ball and quite frankly what ever tactics they employed we eventually showed them we were better in every department. On the first penalty when Jose eventually went down his left foot was in the box. He was probably out of the box when the foul occurred, but hey that's life, remember Posh last year when it went against us at 4-3 up.

Lambert was immense, Chappers was brilliant, carry on like he is and he will get player of the season.

This, from their NorthStand forum made me laugh :- "Were you at match ? - we more than matched them in first half - they tried to play our style and couldn't do it. Second half they played to their strengths and scored an excellent first goal however the whole game changed with the pen and sending off. Can you remember a worse performance from ref and linos ? they were clearly pressurised (Man U style) into decisions." Really??

Funny Brighton fans saying we won because they didn't play well. They were defensive and did their job for large part. have they considered the fact that saints didn't get near top gear either yet won 3-0?

This is one of the strange things about this season. Every team we play against has one of those bad days at the office.

This week it is Brighton who played badly so we won. In the last game against Cov, their manager moaned about 3 soft goals they gave away. The previous match saw Fergie jr complaining about the goals his team conceded. The match before against Middlesborough was decided by the poor Middlesboro defending. The Football League shhow even mentioned it.

Every match that we win seems to be down to our opposition's deficiencies trather than our merits. I just guess that when our luck runs out we will hit the ground with a heck of a bump. :-)

wow, just wow! feel we didn't play as well as we have this season & we still beat them 3-0!

1st half was cagey, with Brighton playing well defensively & us doing ok.

2nd half was all over the place! 1st pen i thought was a free kick & was busy celebrating it when i saw Ricky lining up to take the pen !

after that is a bit of a blur as i was ****ed & enjoying winding up the sh*tehawks!

So,so happy to be a Saint at the mo! fecking buzzing !

"top of the league & were taking the ****! " :D

It sits nicely with all the comments on other teams forums that we're going to crash and burn sometime soon (no squad depth, haven't had any injuries yet, the promtion effect will wear off soon) and that we are "nothing special". At some stage opposition fans/managers might actually have to admit we're not a half bad team.

A great final 45. Forgettable first 45. Was very uncertain before kick off but glad of the 3 points. CMS was a bit of a handful but glad he didn't get any service from his team otherwise we'd have been in trouble.

Great game, fans were definitely the 12th man (we don't need no referee on our side when we've got the fans!)

It's funny seeing the Brighton fans in meltdown.

Well deserved win, deserved scoreline. Only one team came to play football, and it wasn't Brighton.

I thought we were composed in the face of some cynical and defensive play from the Gus bus parked in the Brighton half.

They came as they did last year to niggle & moan & stop us playing. They showed a little going forward first half & we were not at our fluent best. As soon as we scored the game was over. 2nd was not a pen. The 3rd looked a dead cert. Navarro should have been booked in the first half for a foul on Hammond, but the play never stopped. 2nd half he got booked for foul on Morgan - should have been sent off. For all of their moaning they never had a shot on goal!! For the 55 minutes before we scored & after Mr Poyet. The ref was poor, we should have had at least 2 other penalties & I really hope that they slide down the table & into oblivion.

CMS is quality, but Poyet plays him left midfield!! When Adkins made the comment after the game about it, I hope Poyet realised just how defensive his horrible little team is!!

We lost to high spending Leicester who were tipped for promotion.

Yeah true, but a quick look at the table (any excuse right now TBH) shows we are currently 17 points ahead of them. Yep, that's right.... 17 points ahead of the team that all the pundits were tipping to walk this league because of their summer shopping spree.

I keep expecting to wake up and realise it was all a dream.

Game of fine margins. Didnt think we were that good first half -and while we brightened towards the end, thought we allowed Brighton to call the tune for large parts (or perhaps we were forced to play their tune??).

Disagree that they came to kill the game as in previous encounters and thought that, by their standards, they were quite adventurous, something which we failed to capitalise on. We were too ponderous in the middle -is Deano fading a bit after his great run towards the end of last season and the start of this one? Felt that Morgan-type figure would have exploited the space with quicker, first-time passing and taken advantage of the willing runs of Richardson. Wouldn't be surprised if he starts at Brizzle. Nor do the McCann rumours totally surprise me.

Second half changed as Lallana was pushed further inside to provide that distribution to the flanks - and it was no surprise that the goal came from Richardson. After that, I thought we were comfortable -arguably the sending off, rather than the first pen really killed things; but you reap what you sow and Brighton always seem to skirt a fine lie between cynicism and gamesmanship and totally losing their heads. We had plenty of chances (Lambert, Guly etc) and several decent penalty shouts (Lambert's obstruction etc). After the P'boro performance, it was good to see us maintain a high level of intensity and go for juggular after going a man up.

Lambert and Richardson had excellent games - not having to square up against a winger clearly helped Richardson while Noone who was on the other side was their only real threat. Paynter was dogsh*t leaving CMS with even more work. One of my favourite moments was seeing our defense run him ragged with the ole, possession football. So used to putting the fear into ungainly CBs etc, he didn't even get close.

Finally, Lallana had another quiet game - needless to say, hope he recovers his earlier season form soon.

Few would disagree that Fonte was outside of the penalty area when he was fouled and brought down. So was it a penalty? The rules of the game say that a free kick is awarded if a player trips an opponent and that a penalty kick is awarded if the offence is comitted by a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of

the ball. Although Fonte was not inside the area, if Dunk who committed the foul was inside the area, that suggests a penalty would be the correct decision. Have to say I'm not clear whether Dunk had crossed the line into the area when he tripped Jose with a trailing foot.

Not that it matters. Penalties should have been awarded in the 1st half and 2nd half when Lambert was manhandled in the area and the game was won anyway by Lambert's great header in open play.

Cracking coverage on the football league show tonight :)

Interesting that, even with games that are very one sided and with 30 seconds of highlights, they usually show at least one attacking move by the losing side. Don't think there was one Brighton attack shown.

I think the way we play is how the top teams used to play against us in the Prem - keeping possession, stretching the game, probing for a gap, but always in control - and it is very tiring mentally and physically to play against. You feel like you are containing the opposition quite comfortably, then one little lapse of concentration and all the good work is undone. The manager blames a defensive error, but it is cumulative effect of all that possession grinding you down. It is quite a strange feeling the boot being on the other foot.

That was because there wasn't one worthy of the license-payers' time. The nearest they got to a shot on goal was after a sliced clearance fell to one of their players and his shot was blocked. And that literally was it.

First half pretty even with neither side penetrating. Second half, particularly after the sending off we played arrogant football.

Irony of the day came when Guly replaced and Brighton player complained he was walking off too slowly!

THIS! I couldnt believe what I was seeing. The gall of it, last years game was a new record for timewasting set by that lot!

Great performance, I went with a brighton fan and he said I dont know who can really stop you, strong all over the pitch.

COYR!

Football League Show highlights were very fair reflection on the game. Loved the fact they showed the clear cut penalties that were not given with even the commentator showing dis-belief that the ref didnt point to the spot. It actually made Poyet's moaning look even more ridiculous. With bad editing it could have been made to look like he had a point or that we were a bit lucky. My only regret is that nobody pointed out to Poyet they were already one down and didnt manage a shot on target for the whole 90 minutes so how did it change the game....but never mind eh ? :-)

Claridge very fair again, for a skate he aint bad actually.

Felt that we won without playing as good as can, but that said, we never gave them a sniff so must have been doing the right things defensively.

A lot of good individual performances, but no real flow to our football until the game was all but over. Think Brighton's defensive and harrying tactics played a part, but we just weren't as fluent. However, we stayed patient and never seemed to get worried or anxious, a good trait in a team. A sort of ground out 3-0 thumping!!!!!

Easy to see why Brighton infuriate and frustrate so many as their style and culture of play seems to be dominated by the South-American influence of Poyet and Taricco. Petty, sly, frustrating, whingeing, ankle tapping, shirt tugging etc, all designed to distract the opposition and influence the referee.

Influencing the referee may have worked as he seemed to lose it and got quite a few of the big decisions wrong.

Handball against Guly's shot - Probably right call, ball to hand, but seen them given

Lambert having his shirt pulled off him - Got it wrong, blatant infringement, should have been a penalty

Fonte's fall - Definitely outside.

Taricco sending off - Obviously don't know what was said, but he was at it all game and ref had given him a finger wagging in the first half for it.

Hammond dive - Right decision, clear dive, clear booking (wasn't impressed by Hammond on that one)

Lambert trip - Slight contact and enough to get a penalty

Lambert mugging - No attempt by the defender to get the ball and clearly impeded Lambert, should have been a penalty

They most definitely evened themselves out over the course of the game and the better team definitely won, but no referee of such a so called high standard should be getting that many wrong.

As for Brighton, well in the games we have played them I have seen a distinct lack of the free flowing football I thought they ere protagonists of.

oh yeh and there was another penalty shout which they didn't seem to show on the FL league show (unless I missed it) where a Brighton player jumped with his arm in the air which the ball hit when was crossed in the box...thought was most blatant penalty of the lot.

Gus was quite happy to criticise the ref for the penalty decisions while keeping strangely quiet about the blatant ones the ref missed. Did anyone notice on the FL show that as they mobbed the ref, after the second penalty decision, one of them barged the ref?

Cynical, niggly, whiney and petulant. Certainly some South American/Latin influence in there somewhere.

Yeah I'd agree with pretty much all of that, Lambert and Richardson my men of the match, Lambert is unplayable at times. Richardson must get frustrated at some of his bombing runs not getting picked out as quickly as they should though. Not too sure what's up with lallana, still carrying or "managing" his injury a bit?

Certainly wasn't a classic yesterday, but a well worked, focused, driven performance. Every home game I expect it to be the one where we slip up and each time we deliver.

Looking at the footy league show I loved the way Barnes barges the ref after the second pen is awarded - straight out of the Poyet coaching manual

I know, and poyet brushes that and the sending off as "not want to applaud the referee". Disgusting. Any idea of what Taricco said? The players around him didn't exactly look to back him up.

The first goal ripped them apart, Chaplow to Cork, wide to Richardson checked back on left foot cross to far post where Lambert had pulled away to bury his header. The Brighton fans and management are right about the referee. First Half, Painter grabbed Lambert by his shirtfront - penalty didn't give it, Ball hit Greers's hand correct decision, Fonte was outside area but gave penalty, not sure Lambert was clipped for the second penalty but in real time it looked a good decision, Hammond probably went down too easily correct, Painter again manhandled Lambert even worse than the first half no penalty given.

Two penalties were given one incorrect but two were missed so all in all nobody can have an issue with the result. It's a simple fact keep grabbing players and they will go down, some will be given as fouls and in the area a penalty. Brighton were at it all over the pitch so if they don't want to concede penalties they should clean up their act.

Poyet sets a poor example he is just gobby, a lot of the time without engaging the brain, his team follows his example so Taricco got what was coming to him and Calderon was lucky not to go as well.

Brighton fought hard in the first half but ran out of steam and after going down to ten were chasing shadows. The diamond wore them down and the first goal, short of a miracle killed them off.
