Durleyfos Posted 18 November, 2011 Share Posted 18 November, 2011 I know Coldplay are very much a 'Marmite' band, you either love them or hate them. Anyone else got tickets for their tour next year? My missus just got two for the Emirates on June 4th. If you don't like them, please do not reply to this post. Thanks.

ericofarabia Posted 18 November, 2011 Share Posted 18 November, 2011 Why aren't they playing St Mary's FFS NC Out.
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2011 Share Posted 18 November, 2011 Why aren't they playing St Mary's FFS NC Out. They wanted to but NC said he wanted to give everyone seeing them a free beer to celebrate having a band like Coldplay at SMS, Chris Martin wouldn't agree to it. sambosa75 Posted 18 November, 2011 Share Posted 18 November, 2011 No, because they are sh*t. Albums might be a little too polished but live, there aren't many better bands out there.
swannymere Posted 18 November, 2011 Share Posted 18 November, 2011 They're marmite on record but i think live you'll find it hard to find a current 'large' band to beat them for a decent show.

I can't think of at least 10 that don't have the hype these boring clowns do. I think that says it all about modern music though. Safe, bland and dull. Give me the inventiveness of the stone roses the dark humour of the smiths or the pure f*ck offness of the pistols or te clash anyday over that nonsense. I saw them at the IOW Festival a few years ago. Agreed, they are fantastic live.

The difference being, with Coldplay we are talking about a band with 5 studio albums with like it or not, smash hits on each one. The challenge of keeping their sets fresh, exciting and engaging, whilst still having to play these hits is hard but they do seem to manage it. Stone Roses didn't have to ever tour the world singing Fools Gold 10 years after it was released. Same goes for the Pistols. As I said before, I am not a huge Coldplay fan but was blown away when I saw them live and they ripped it up at Glastonbury this year too.
dubai_phil Posted 23 November, 2011 Share Posted 23 November, 2011 I booked our annual NYE vacation in Bangkok on Monday evening. Mainly because as always there was stuff all happening here and with the floods they are basicvally giving away hotel rooms ATM. And so of course on Tuesday morning Coldplay announce they are doing a gig on NYE in Abu Dhabi. Balls. Their last one in the rain down there was THE most amazing gig I will ever see. niceandfriendly Posted 29 December, 2011 Share Posted 29 December, 2011 Ludicrously good band. I can't even fathom how people call their music "boring". Their set at Glasto this year was special and their latest album ain't half bad either. Don't think they'll ever improve on Parachutes though. How could you?
