St_Tel49 Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 I think the pens evened out - we had two dodgy ones to make up for the two cast iron ones he didn't give. He might have though about the ones he got wrong and thought "I'll give 'em a couple to make up for it when I get the chance" 1st half Rickie nearly lost his shirt being pulled back in the penalty area - not sure how that was missed. On another note - do you think Gus actually gives coaching lessons in time wasting and theatrical writhing? ...maybe its part of the South American coaching badge The second penalty decision wasn't remotely dodgy. It was nailed on. Lambert was tripped in the penalty area. How could it not have been a penalty?
Dalek2003 Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 Ref did well today, especially in the second half. No complaints.
Saint_lambden Posted 19 November, 2011 Share Posted 19 November, 2011 He was atrocious again, like that Leeds game 2 season ago. Gave 2 penalties but we should have had another 2 at least. Premier League standard? Blimey, I feel sorry for Premier League teams.

LatvianTolix Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Never liked him before tbh, very arrogant and bossy ref. looked as a pure clown today and it is very good for his confidence reshuffle. Absolute clown. Didnt point the penalties when needed and pointed at laughable situations. Penalty on Fonte was a culmination of it!!!!
John Boy Saint Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Absolute farce, but it shows why so many players are so theatrical to get a decision. Still Mr P Walton will be back in the Premiership next weekend!
HK_Phoey Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 I agree ref was ****. We had the whole game live on telly. In the first half the fouls on Guly and Lambert were definite pens. There was also the handball that he did not give. Have to say that would have been harsh if given as not a lot the defender could do to get out of the way and I would have been ****ed off if a decision like that had gone against us. No way was the first penalty he gave a penalty good yard outside the box as others have stated. Still unsure of the 2nd one as well, even in slow motion not sure if Ricky was tripped or if he slipped. As for the Hammond incident quite clearly shows the Dean had pushed the ball past Harper and then got clipped by the keeper. should have been another penalty not a booking for Dean. As for the retake of the penalty, Harper took ages getting back to his line, the ref blew his whistle and Lambert duly dispatched it. Don't see why it should have been retaken. Great retake by Ricky though. One of the best penalties I have seen.
landford.saint Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 (edited) Is there anything the fans can do when a ref is this bad. Even on the Football League show they highlighted his wrong decisions. The Brighton fans are as annoyed/frustrated about his poor display as we are. Who do we e-mail or contact to complain. Is it the refs association? Or the FA? or both? This clown repeatedly gives performances like this, perhaps we should all complain, and I mean both sets of fans, perhaps eventually they may take some notice/action (but I wouldn't hold my breath). CanadaSaint Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Thank God the refs are full-timers now. Imagine how bad they'd be if they were still part-timers. What a frigging rip-off that is.
Bearsy Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 Poor old boy clearly didn't have the faintest idea what was or wasn't a penalty and was going on pure guesswork. That said, if he'd just tossed a coin he'd probably have got more decisions right. Felt sorry for him really, seriously how old is he? I'd have guessed 70-odd but the taters seemed to think 50. Reckon he must have one of those 'Kanu' birth certificates....

Whitey Grandad Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 You have no idea if he did or not TBF. Well, he was walking away from the penalty spot with his back to goal and didn't raise his hands to his mouth, from what I recall. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?33946-Lamberts-2nd-and-3rd-penalties
The9 Posted 20 November, 2011 Share Posted 20 November, 2011 (edited) You can hear the whistle on here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGyfPbmCSwc&feature=youtube_gdata_player In fact you can also see him raise his right hand to his mouth immediately before the whistle before the first penalty in the clip as well. Wes Tender Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 So now, just to add to the controversy that surrounds this idiot ref, there are complaints from a Brighton player (Marcos Painter) that Walton swore at him. Painter wonders how Taricco swearing got him sent off, but Walton can use similar language and get away with it as the ref. Painter obviously realises that the ref cannot send himself off, so perhaps he should have explained that to his mate Taricco. Swear at the ref, get some punitive retribution; ref swears at you, nothing is going to happen, apart from rival fans thinking that you're a wally. Lord Duckhunter Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 I had a ref tell me to **** off once during a Sunday morning game. He also called me a useless ****, when I missed a sitter. It made some of the other players laugh, and also had the knock on effect of me shutting up and letting him get on with reffing the game. More ref's should try it.

Window Cleaner Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 Kettle is the worst I've ever seen. Walton runs him close. I'll have to wait until I have 94 minutes of tangible evidence on Kettle to prove that. Walton was dire, inexcusably dire on Saturday and to my mind Brighton suffered the consequences more than Saints. If he hadn't been such an absolute knob with the first penalty Tarricco wouldn't have sworn at him and wouldn't have been sent off,it's bad enough having a penalty wrongly given (for that incident) against you but to be punished with a sending off because of it just doubles the wrongness of the affair. If you look at the gallery on the OS you'll see Saints players committing fouls on Brighton players in pictures 6,7 and 8,doubt if any of those were punished.Picture 9 shows a Brighton foul, doubt if thatgot punished either. That ref was unacceptably bad and that's all. Lets B Avenue Posted 21 November, 2011 Share Posted 21 November, 2011 I'll have to wait until I have 94 minutes of tangible evidence on Kettle to prove that. First saw him in our opening game in 05 after relegation. home to Wolves. Filled me with dread at what lay ahead, after 27 years of top officials such as Rennie, Winter, Courtney, Milford etc. You also saw his regular howlers on the Football League Show, but it appears he has finally been kicked off the league list. Frank's cousin Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 IMHO there were potential 6 penalty shouts in all - so how many did he get right? 1. Hand ball off Guly shot - IMO ball to hand an no chance really of the defender getting out of way - NO PENALTY AWARDED - WALTON CORRECT 2. Guly blocked in the area - Penalty by letter of law, but would probably have been a little harsh and Guly went down a bit easy - NO PENALTY AWARDED - WALTON given benefit of doubt (CORRECT/WRONG)... 3. Lambert held back and around neck - rarely given as seems to be seen as part and parcel of penalty area shenanigans, but as they say would probably have been a free kick if outside the area. Would have been very harsh - NO PENALTY AWARDED - WALTON GIVEN BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT (CORRECT) 4. Fonte fouled outside the area - should have been a free kick - PENALTY awarded - WALTON WRONG 5. Lambert pushed over in the box - IMHO defo a PENALTY - NO penalty awarded - WALTON WRONG 6. Lambert fouled on the edge of the box - looks like he was caught ever so slightly, but more a stumble Think Ricky was clever here after not being given the stonewaller - PENALTY AWARDED - Walton WRONG (but they do get given and difficult for the) ref to always get right For me he gets about half the decsions right, but it looks worse as the ones he gives were not penalties - think he made a genuine mistake after consulting with the lino after awarding the Fonte one, and for the second, probably making up for previous one on Lambo not given. So all in all not sure what Brighton fans or Poyet are complaiinng about - they were lucky we were poor (for most part) and rusty, otherwise it could well have been 6. dubai_phil Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 Looked like Lambo tripped himself up No that's what Hammond did. He had gone too wide there were no options for him as he was running out of space so he clipped Harper, the reaction around me was one of groans it was so obvious. Rickie's was totally nailed on. Huffton Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 The Rickie one is difficult, when you see it in slo mo you can see the contact, if any, is minimal, however at full speed any ref in the country would have given it. Of course any other ref would have given the earlier one where Rickie was 'assualted' (FLS commentators words).
landford.saint Posted 22 November, 2011 Share Posted 22 November, 2011 I have had a brief trawl through other fans websites, and have found numerous threads on the ineptness of Walton. Besides us and obviously Brighton, they included fans of Manure, Man city, West Ham, Northpton, Liverpool, Leeds, to name but a few. Walton must be consistently bad to geneate this amount of wordage, why is nothing done about him.

Of course any other ref would have given the earlier one where Rickie was 'assualted' (FLS commentators words). The Law says 'trip or attempt to trip' so there does not have to be contact for it to be a foul and it is possible that Rickie has his right heel clipped, however if you watch Rickie's left leg you can see that he does not try to take the next stride with it and tucks both legs up together, which is common when an attacker tries to 'simulate' a foul. I would say that it certainly comes under the 'attempt to trip' category. These are all covered by the condition 'in the opinion of the referee and while his decisions may not concur with ours, I don't think there's any suggestion that they were not honest (except from Tarricco).
