I see Walton's is referee in the match against Brighton on Saturday.

I hope he has a better match than he did the last time he was referee here. (v. Leeds the season before last).

The most inept performance I've ever seen - and from a Premier League referee too!

Just hope he hasn't got something against us.

Was/Is a bad ref - terrible against Leeds, but the absolute worst was the guy at Tranmere 2 seasons ago. Shocking, even their manager said we had 2 dead cert pens & 2 others that looked decent..................I remember every single member of the team spoke to the referee after that game......................

I was there that day, almost forgot how bad he was - unbelievable!

His performance against Leeds was one of the worst displays, possibly the worst refereeing display I have ever seen. Just hope we can have a similar result though.

It actually bordered on cheating, the only thing he didnt do was put the ball in the back of the net for them.

Fortunately niether could their players :-)

Was by far the worst refereeing I have ever seen. I remember at half time we were 1-0 up and still the ref was getting loads of stick from fans and players as he walked down the tunnel. Rickie Lambert pointed towards the fans then his ears as the boos rang out despite us winning. He somehow got worse in the 2nd half. Thank god we won or there could have been a riot.

I wouldn't stress, I've actually met the bloke at the end of the season we beat Leeds and one of the many questions I asked him was about 'how he felt about being known as the worst referee Southampton have had for 20 years' or something along those lines.

He replied with something like: "you know what home fans are like", but interestingly couldn't even remember if he had refereed us that season, and once pushed to remember refereeing a game at SMS, couldn't remember who we had played. He thought we had lost as well. So even if he had any bad feelings towards us, he's probably forgotten them already!!!

He's just hasd his 52nd birthday. I thought referees had to retire at 47?

Nope, even in the Premiership after meeting certain criteria, they have the self assess option to continue, that they feel capable in themselves to continue. Dermot Gallagher spilt that little gem during a meet the ref evening, he said that he had signed himself back on to the roster after passing the natural retirement age. But during a game between Villa and Man U Ronaldo had picked the ball up in the Man U half and was off up the pitch like a whippet, when he got to the Villa box the time on the stadium clock was 4:20 the attack broke down and Agbonlahor picked the ball up and was off down the other end: Dermot said when he got to the Man U box the stadium clock said 4:40 he knew then that it was time to call it a day.

In contrast Peter Walton is obviously in total denial of his inept abilities, after that Leeds game the assessor (unless he was on the payroll) must have written a totally damning performance report that you would remember.

Hopefully the 1st half hour will be played at Championship full on 100mph by both sides, and he "pulls" something to get the hell off the pitch.

will be interesting to see how many cards he dishes out.....

Brighton have the highest number of CCC yellows this season..35, whereas Saints have got 18..only Coventry (15) have a lower " yellow card" count .

One of the worst and most bizarre refereeing displays I've seen for a long time; how he's Premier League standard I'll never know. Should've given at least 2 more penalties, fortunately it didn't cost us as the lads were absolutely superb in the second half today!

Wait... was that the referee from THAT Leeds game?

I said today was the worst reffing I'd seen since that Leeds game, didn't realise it was the same one!

It wasn't bad because it seemed biased today... it was just terrible... the number of decisions that he got wrong just kept mounting up and up and up >_

Can't complain really. I don't think he got much wrong. Taricco was in his face all the game and must have said something nasty to have been sent off. I couldn't hear what he said from my seat in the Kingsland.

True you can't complain because most of it was in our favour,Walton's refereeing was completely lopsided, we got penalties for

actions that Brighton got absolutely f-all for.The ref was a joke, wait until you've seen some close up,slowed down film, you'll see what I mean.

I think the pens evened out - we had two dodgy ones to make up for the two cast iron ones he didn't give.

He might have though about the ones he got wrong and thought "I'll give 'em a couple to make up for it when I get the chance"

1st half Rickie nearly lost his shirt being pulled back in the penalty area - not sure how that was missed.

On another note - do you think Gus actually gives coaching lessons in time wasting and theatrical writhing? ...maybe its part of the South American coaching badge

Taricco was on pitch poyet

watched game on line thanks to stream Fonte didn't cheat but was fouled yard outside foul caused his feet to land in box

Rickie took a slight knock then stumbled

Unbiased commentator ( not DM ) said Navvaro should have gone when booked

Great sub NA to save Hammond after he got booked for being caught in box

Loads of mistakes - Lambert wrestled down - possible handball from Guly shot but give the defender a break - pen was outside box to even it up - their midfielder should have gone for the terrible foul on Morgan - Taricco kept on at the referee all game trying to get Saints players booked for small fouls should have been yellow carded before the red - why did he book Hammond he just waited to be fouled which he was - truly awful but not as bad as last time

He was awful be we have absolutely nothing to complain about. Sure he could have given a penalty in the first half for the handball and perhaps for obstruction but they would have been very weak. Both of them were 50-50 decision and he was letting a lot go in the first half so I can see why he didn't give pens there. In the second half Hammond got a deserved yellow for diving, he went down before contact was made. The penalty we did get was one of the most shocking decisions I have seen in a loooong time. It was clearly outside and Fonte wasn't even moving towards the penalty area, he was moving parallel to it. In Walton defense though, the assistant was much better positioned and he should have seen that it was outside the box.

After the 2-0 he actually he should have send-off one more Brighton player (Navarro for that lunge on Schneiderlin), that challenge was ****ing awful and because he got a yellow he can't get any subsequent punishment....

Appalling refereeing in the first half, somebody must have had a word with him at half-time because he seemed to be more on the ball in the 2nd half. Should've had 2 penalties in the first half hour, Brighton were all over Rickie and the worst bit of reffing for me was when 3 Brighton players were hacking away at Jack Cork in the centre circle and Walton was no more than 5 yards away and gave NOTHING.

Inept and not cut out for this level, he's probably about Conference level.

As shocking as we feared. The Fonte penalty wasn't a penalty, but made up for the certain penalties he missed. The sending off was absolutely justified, even though I can appreciate how angry he must have been he should have known better, he should be setting an example!
