Cortese Meal Wednesday

Saint Garrett

Recommended Posts

I have it on good authority that Cortese only invites one "real" fan to these dinners and the rest are local actors. The actors will, upon payment, fawn for Cortese to present a positive image of the club to the one genuine fan (maybe it's two, he may have changed it since). Cortese doesn't have fans forums any more because the level of intellectuals present intimidates him, as does answering questions about moss on the stadium supports, price of beer and the cleanliness of the concourse.

It's a disgrace. Bring back the good old days.

Best post on the thread! Thanks CL.

I got bored at post 250ish

This forum is hilarious. Just take the feedback. It is pretty much all positive. So what if he didn't buy us all a pint. We had that free game anyway.

and by the way We are top of the Championship

Thank you for taking the time to post your friends feedback and look forward to any other news from the club.

And that is all that needs to be said!

Good post

and thanks for the update from the guy who was there. It's always the same characters picking posts like this to pieces, it's almost too predictable.

Most wouldn't be bothered to do that though! Whereas with this dinner idea, anyone would go.

An interesting viewpoint, but I would counter that perhaps some might feel somewhat daunted having to go through a three course meal in the presence of a small intimate gathering. There would certainly be nowhere to hide and I could easily imagine that some might feel overawed and somewhat intimidated (even if that is not the intention).

Only if you're a social weirdo. And their opinion doesn't count anyway

Also, surely anything reported second or third hand from a private meeting like this is infinitely MORE likely to have words and contexts twisted than a live radio broadcast with a recording of the whole thing?

Some people will always just hear what they want to hear, from both ends of the spectrum!

IIRC the last couple of Solent forums were hijacked by our rent-a-gob friends from SISA, which was most probably the reason they were discontinued. I used to enjoy the ones that used to be in the supporters bar at the Dell but to be honest they were no more than a rallying cry for the forthcoming season, than a proper fact sharing forum.

It's the same attitude that Portsmouth had when they won the FA cup. Screw anything else, we are getting results s there is no need to question anything to do with the club.

Sorry I thought you were saying when pfc did well the fans should have questioned their succes and then changed the running of the skates. I just think there was little they could have done that wasn't futile. We didn't get new owners because of the fans venting their worries.

There is little/nothing any football fan can do. I still think it's right that fans should be able to question the business people running their clubs though. I expect many, from Man U down to Bournemouth would agree.

Not sure I get what you mean as I've had dialog with the club via email, letter and phone to questions I've had.

Exactly. I wonder how often those with issues about ticketing, car parking, yawn, yawn, yawn actually contact the club? If they did it as frequently as they bang on about it on here I'm sure it would be more beneficial for them and less boring for the rest of us.

Why don't we have a vote? I'd imagine most of the silent observers don't have a problem with Cortese's dinner get togethers.

On a side note, many posters on this forum are why I worry about Southampton when the going gets a bit tougher. Your cynicism and depressing whines helped, along with the financial mess, drown our club into a cesspit of negativity from which we've only just recovered in the past 18 months. God help us when we lose a few games. You're the reason I gave up my season ticket - I was happy watching the lower quality of football, but not hearing the constant criticism of the club and the players. Take a hint from Adkins - relentless positivity can get you an amazingly long way.

The club respond to the fan base when it suits them. See the saga about trying to get an answer over the flag issue and my own questions which went unanswered despite sending more than one email.

hahahahah you gave up your season ticket because of other fans not being happy clappy?

surely by seeing potential and asking more of the club is actually positive thinking, not negative, just sitting there and accepting what you are given is actually more of a negative approach to take.

can't wait for tomorrow, top of the league and a full house, surely you'd want to be there for that?

If you need a reply to something that badly then get out out from behind your keyboard and off your arse and go to St Mary's and get a reply directly from the horse's mouth. Although from some on here if NC is actually a Mafia Don you may find the mouth in your bed at home later :)

I don't think that its good enough that a fan should go to all that effort for an answer to a question. I think it's poor communication from the club and is very frustrating. I believe that just mike did try to talk to someone face to face but got nowhere.

Well tell me what your question is and I bet I get a reply from them in less than 5 working days just by going through normal communication exchanges.

Look at how much effort has been put in trying to find out what is happening to the ML flag? I believe they are finally getting somewhere after months of being ignored.

I simply don't agree that its a better range; you're getting opinions of ten people at a time, so a very closed groups. Forums invited many more opinions than that, and more importantly the results went out directly on local radio for all interested parties. Much more open, much more diverse, much better.

Obviously there are many varied opinions on the type of forum that is best.

Not have been to one such meeting ..YET, I must say that giving a dozen or so people the chance to exchange ideas, and for NC to listen /explain... does seem to make sense rather than a group of a couple of hundred dyed-in-the wool types who want to monopolise the discussion and change the club structure by shouting down others does seem to have some merit.

It's a good opportunity for those (chosen) fans to receive some small token of thanks from the club they may have supported ..for decades...and still have a chance to express a personal opinion to the Chairman..and be heard.

I emailled about the flag and about the availability of the fans forums and asked why they were stopped. I sent three emails and never got a reply.

I think it is a disgrace that NC had a photo of himself on the front of the menu.

well ..when you consider that he was instrumental in " selling " the idea (of bailing out Saints) to Marcus Liebherr in the first place, and is now

in reality ..." the Boss " and has the responsibility of fulfilling the Liebherr plan...Can you think of anyone better suited to use their picture?...

IF he was inviting fans of behalf of the club he effectively " owns "...I see nothing wrong with that. Who did the fans go to meet and talk with anyway?

He must be one of the most progressive chairman in the country !

Oh dear how terrible for you...

Why the patronising reply? I'm just saying that in my opinion communication between the club and the fans is not very good, many others have expressed the same view certainly about the flag issue.

From what I have heard, sfc will have to do more soon as all club will be required to. I hope we improve in this area.

Lol at PhilippineSaint bottling out when he found out how fatuous the 'questions' were. Didn't want to demean yourself son?

You can see from many of the comments of this thread that I am not the only fan that thinks this club is on the edge of calamity.

Moss on the stadium, dirty concourses after a match, being made to pay for car parks, the Chairmans photo appearing everywhere (North Korean style cult of personality anyone ?), disappearing *gulp* flags etc and finally as Um Pahars has pointed out (dont you think he'd make a great fanontheboard ?)fans being summoned to terrifying and intimidatory free meals.WHERE WILL IT END !

Deary me Manji, is that the best you can come up with.

If you're going to be soooo bitter and twisted then at least get your caustic insults right. As much as you like to think some are living in the past, it actually appears that you're one of the few still hanging on to a tired, old , dull and boring argument.

Let it go fella, let it go, it will only eat you up.
