Saint-Armstrong Posted 15 November, 2011 Posted 15 November, 2011 "Agency SEG say Celtic and #SaintsFC are in discussions for defender Jos Hooiveld, although no fee has yet been agreed. http://audioboo.fm/boos/547129-adam-vp-15nov"
eelpie Posted 15 November, 2011 Posted 15 November, 2011 For sure, buying him will hardly be a gamble. He has proved his worth with us.
martyg1950 Posted 16 November, 2011 Posted 16 November, 2011 Would be a great buy, but he wont be cheap. I don't think it's just a case of us v Celtic over the price, other clubs have seen what he's done at Saints and have expressed interest. Celtic paid around 1.8 mil for him. We have a chairman who will not pay over the odds, but we know anyone half decent comes at an inflated price. Can't see us getting him for less than 2 Mil, may have to pay more if others force a bidding war. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
corky morris Posted 16 November, 2011 Posted 16 November, 2011 There is no way we will pay £2m for him. I would be surprised if we spend £1m TBH. Celtic have financial issues. Thats why they are farming out Joss, O'Dea at Leeds & a couple of other players. I reckon we will have to pay between £500k & £750k, but the deal will an unconfirmed amouth to keep Celtic from not looking like muppets.
Dr Who? Posted 16 November, 2011 Posted 16 November, 2011 Little bit worried about the agent and his big mouth!! Looking maybe to land a better deal elsewhere (the agent that is). Why else come out and say this until the deal is done......shop window!! I hate agents. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/15752857.stm

I think we all know NC won't be pushed around and will do what he thinks is best for the club. If it doesn't work out I'll assume it wasn't right for saints.
St Chalet Posted 21 November, 2011 Posted 21 November, 2011 Celtic currently have 4 centre backs out according to this article which SSN referenced. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/mobile/sport/victor-wanyama-ready-to-plug-gaps-for-celtic-1.1136003
scotty Posted 21 November, 2011 Posted 21 November, 2011 Anybody else notice the massive man-hug Jos and Jose gave each other on saturday? Not the ideal thing in front of the brighton mob imho , but showed very clearly the defensive partnership they have already built up. I really hope we manage to keep him on the bus, could be one of the most crucial signings we make this season.

buctootim Posted 21 November, 2011 Posted 21 November, 2011 Lennon says he wasnt aware talks are going on and whether or not Hooiveld should /would come back. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/celtic/280182-celtic-manager-unaware-of-jos-hooiveld-departure-talks/
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 21 November, 2011 Posted 21 November, 2011 I see Brighton have completed the permanent signing of LuaLua today. Does this mean that, if everything was agreed, we could sign Jos permanently before January even arrives?
RobM Posted 21 November, 2011 Posted 21 November, 2011 I see Brighton have completed the permanent signing of LuaLua today. Does this mean that' date=' if everything was agreed, we could sign Jos permanently before January even arrives?[/quote'] Technically they haven't signed him yet, they have just agreed to do so in Jan and he will remain on loan until then. I'm sure legally it's all done and dusted and safe for all parties, but he hasn't signed yet. But of course we could do the same, we could do a deal with Celtic to guarantee his signature in Jan, agree terms with him now leaving just some FA paperwork to complete in Jan.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 23 November, 2011 Posted 23 November, 2011 Celtic have just signed a new defender: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15844449.stm Mikael Lustig (also linked with Saints) will be joining them in January and has been described as someone who can also play in central defence. So maybe this massages the exit of Hooiveld from the club?

Give it to Ron Posted 23 November, 2011 Posted 23 November, 2011 Can't understand why decent players like Lustig sign for micky mouse teams like Celtic. I thought he looked awful in the recent England game where Downing tore him a new one. He reminded me of Nilsson who hardly made one tackle in all the games he played for us.

I think as they had 4 central defenders out injured last Saturday and have now signed another its pretty fair to say that Jos does not feature in their plans.
thornhill_saints Posted 23 November, 2011 Posted 23 November, 2011 From BBC ticker FOOTBALL:Celtic sign Rosenborg's Sweden international defender Mikael Lustig on pre-contract agreement
buctootim Posted 23 November, 2011 Posted 23 November, 2011 Celtic signing Lustig isnt necessarily good news for us. It indicates Johan Mjallby is having a big say in transfers and it was Mjallby who wanted to sign Hooiveld for Celtic in the first place.

So i think Jos will come here.
