doddisalegend Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 good O lets just hope Celtic aren't unrealistic about the price otherwise they won't get any where with NC.
SuperMikey Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I think we'll get him for somewhere between £750k-£1.25m. Worth every penny based on what he's done so far this season!
SaintBobby Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I think the trickier bit could be salary demands rather than price. Aren't Celtic presently paying a good % of his wages?
doddisalegend Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I think the trickier bit could be salary demands rather than price. Aren't Celtic presently paying a good % of his wages? He doesn't strike me as the sort of player who would prefer to rot in the Celtic reserves rather than play regular football with team mates he seems to like alot for a better wage packet....though I could be wrong.
1976_Child Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 get him on the bus asap With him onboard and texaco diesel in the tank we will be motoring...
This Charming Man Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Hopefully this is true, he's been outstanding for us so far.
Fan The Flames Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Wages wise Celtic would pay similar to a champ side for a fringe player like JH.
Ohio Saint Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I'm surprised the loan deal wasn't nailed down better for us to buy if this article is true.
Foxstone Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I think the trickier bit could be salary demands rather than price. Aren't Celtic presently paying a good % of his wages? Jos will look at our position where we are promotion contenders, and would know that a promotion to the Prem would increase his wages much higher than he would ever get at Celtic. I think he might speculate to accumulate.. Really hope the deal can be done - Jos has earned it.

Saintandy666 Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Good good, I hope so, he has definitely been Fonte's equal so far this year in a way other central defenders have not. Sign him up!
scott_saints Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I thought he was a rubbish Celtic reject?
latter day saint Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 fingers crossed it happens as i think he has been great for us,after he settled in. how much did he cost Celtic as surely they will not want to lose too much in the sale ?

latter day saint Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 moo oink bark growl cluck baa are you on crack or meth ?
Saint Garrett Posted 14 November, 2011 Author Posted 14 November, 2011 He has been nowhere near Fonte's 'equal'....Hooiveld has been by far our best CB so far this year. Was underwhelmed when we originally signed him on loan, but what a cracking piece of business he has turned out to be. Fitted in superbly. Am surprised the deal wasn't already arranged should we have wanted to buy him at the end of the loan deal. i.e. Chaplow.
Saint Lindford Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Excellent, he has been outstanding for us so far. Listening to his recent interview he wants to stay as he is playing regularly and that is what he wants. Good move all round. Bring in a striker as cover for Lambert and that will grease the wheels nicely. All aboard!!
hypochondriac Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Good good. Hope we can strike a deal. Would be interesting to see if he could make it in the prem though should we get there.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Good news. Cracking player IMO.
Wes Tender Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Good good. Hope we can strike a deal. Would be interesting to see if he could make it in the prem though should we get there. Well, he managed to play in the Champions' League didn't he? And according to the article, several Premiership clubs have been sniffing around him, so they must feel that he could cut it in the Premiership, or else that part of the story is just a ruse to bump up his price. I hope that we get him and he and Fonte go on to forge a Killer/Claus type partnership.

yorkie Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 A figure being banded around in the pub before Coventry game was circa £2m!
Saint 76er Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I'm surprised the loan deal wasn't nailed down better for us to buy if this article is true. Rumours at the time suggested that Celtic wanted 2 mill and would not budge, hence the last minute loan deal as NC would not pay that fee. So probably no option to buy clause, as miles apart with window closing. Goodness knows how all parties view the situation now though. Celtic will know Jos has starred and may even want him back, in any event his form may cause them not to want to drop their fee. In which case negotiations may well become protracted, so just as well they are starting them in mid November!
tartan_saint Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 A figure being banded around in the pub before Coventry game was circa £2m! isn't that twice as much as they paid for him? i know he's done well for us but i'm hoping they don't take us for a ride with the fee.

Raging Bull Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 (edited) Hopefully the sweaties will be slapped with a big fine from UEFA so might need a little more ££££££ Edited 14 November, 2011 by Raging Bull
Give it to Ron Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 A figure being banded around in the pub before Coventry game was circa £2m! Does it really matter if its 1m or 2m really? On the pitch it could be the difference between massive Premiership deals or just another season in CC. Off the pitch if we have money then spend it ...this is not a gamble is it going on his performances since signing him.
Bearsy Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 this is not a gamble is it going on his performances since signing him. Remember the Saga saga though don't you Ron?
scotty Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Remember the Saga saga though don't you Ron? Yesterdays news. NA seems to have the happy knack of improving the players he works with.
Wes Tender Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I didn't say there wasn't premiership interest, just that it would be interesting to see if he could make the step up. Neither did I say that you hadn't said that there was Premiership interest in him. I just made the point that if he had played at Champions' League level and several Premiership clubs were sniffing around, it inferred that they must think that he is capable of stepping up. But I note that merely by suggesting that it would be interesting to see whether he can make the step up, you infer that you have your doubts, although you're happy with him at this level at least. I'm confident that he can make the step up when we're promoted.
Give it to Ron Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Remember the Saga saga though don't you Ron? Very true...but hoping that was a one off ;-)
SaintBobby Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I really hope we get him, just feel salary could be a sticking point.
spyinthesky Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Out of interest anyone know how much the lad (CD) at Bristol City was going to cost us? Have been keeping an eye on his appearances since returning from injury and he seems to have done well for City
Give it to Ron Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I really hope we get him, just feel salary could be a sticking point. Didnt seem to bother Gorkss or Fontaine though and a tailoired deal with bonus for promotion to Premiership ?

Would love to have this signed, sealed and delivered on 1st Jan, but can see a high price put on his head before then, then a stand-off until the end of Jan, and finally hoping Celtic crack and take a fair offer.
S-Clarke Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 I think Celtic paid a fee just over £2m, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking to recoup a good % of that - given how good he's been for us. £2m wouldn't be far off the mark IMO.
del boy Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 classic...."understands" ...thats about as good as ITK on here
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Whilst Jos has been excellent for us, I'd be looking ahead and asking do we think he'd be good enough in the Prem?. I'd get his loan extended until the end of the season and then evaluate the situation then.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 good O lets just hope Celtic aren't unrealistic about the price otherwise they won't get any where with NC. Judging by the results of the last transfer window you may well be right. I suspect the Don will already have a firm figure in mind as to what he thinks this player is worth to us and he'll be reluctant to let Celtic move him that much. Everyone agrees this player has done very well for us - but if the price is not right then there are plenty more fish in the sea.
Jimmy_D Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 The £2M Celtic wanted in the last transfer window was overpriced for the recent form he'd shown. With his form for us since joining, he'd be worth every penny of the £2M Celtic want, if they're still willing to accept that sort of price.

up and away Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Neither did I say that you hadn't said that there was Premiership interest in him. I'm confident that he can make the step up when we're promoted. Looking back at previous players with that Champions League club gives little comfort but that does not matter a jot. It's what he adds to Saints that is of value and from what I have judged, massive. I don't know if he's good enough for the Premier but my guess would be No, otherwise it would have already happened and he would not be available on loan from Celtic. But it's an absolute no brainer to sign him, even at the top end of Celtic's range when he is performing better than what we may have expected from all our defensive targets. I can't think of any I would swap for in the Championship and take the risk from the known performances we have.
dune Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 We are loaded so if we don't pay the price it'll be a clear signal of lack of intent.
Lighthouse Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 Whilst Jos has been excellent for us, I'd be looking ahead and asking do we think he'd be good enough in the Prem?. I'd get his loan extended until the end of the season and then evaluate the situation then. I'd sooner keep Jos and replace Jaidi and Seaborne IF we get into the Prem. I think we'd be a fool not to keep a player who has performed so well. He could well be the difference between staying in the top 2 and a 75% chance of losing in the play offs. What's that worth these days? £70m odd last I heard. Having said that I think £2m is taking the p*ss a bit from Celtic. I believe it's more than they paid for him and considering he was a failure there I think we could get him at a cut price.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 14 November, 2011 Posted 14 November, 2011 We are loaded so if we don't pay the price it'll be a clear signal of lack of intent. We are not loaded. It is the family that own us that are. The money belongs to them and not to the club. Should they wish to do so they may invest further in the club either through love loyalty as as part of a business case. There investment is always gratefully received by us the fans but it should not be assumed as a and it is far from a given. It would be great to get the lad signed up and I like the rest of the fans hope that a mutually acceptable deal to all sides can be agreed.
