South Coast Derby? Or not?

Coz of my location and the fact that most of my family and a lot of my friends support Brighton, theyve always kinda been my 2nd team and I've generally admired them, especially after they went through in the nineties. I lost a lot of respect for them as a club though, last season. Suddenly seeing us as a rival and jumping on the smallest throwaway comment by Adkins.

It only becomes a Derby when your work colleagues have an allegiance to another club - so that would make Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea local derbies around Hampshire!

There is only ever going to be one South Coast Derby - and that's our game with Pompey! For many years it never happened and after next year 2012 it will not happen again for many years whilst they languish in the lower leagues! Make the most of it as it will all be history!

Same here. Not that I have second teams mind; Saints is more than enough! But if SFC was to be no more then it would be the Blue n White of Albion which would take my attention.

I've always kept half an eye open for the Albion score. Having made Hove my home. I like B&H Albion. Nothing against them and genuinely hope they do well and get into the Prem with us. They are a solidly supported club. Over the years since being chucked out of the Goldstone ground they spent a couple of seasons playing their home games at Gillingham and still had a good following. When the whole stadium saga was going through the courts I was there lending my voice of solidarity with the Albion fans against the NIMBYs.

Cheers fellas, take the point on the Fonte celebrations.

Pretty much my only criticism when I read it aswell. I was there and was personally going mental because I had gone from thinking at half time that we had blown our chance of promotion, to being convinced that we were heading for the Championship an hour later.

Good read though!

Not.

There is only one South coast derby and that is when we and the Skates play. This is not up for debate.

If the Skates beat us and went down they'd still, rightly, point to that game as being a highlight of the season.

If Brighton beat us would they give our game a second thought at the end of the season?

Brighton is 60 odd miles away so they're no more a "derby" than Reading or Crystal Palace.Plus I think there needs to be some sort of similarity between the citys as well. Brighton is a Georgian watering hole,Southampton was a centre of industry(for those who don't remember the times when we had factories and shipyards).

You seem to suggest the wild celebrations at the Withdean were just down to us and Brighton not getting on? I think it had more to do with being the goal that virtually clinched promotion for us.

I assure you I was going utterly mental as much because they'd been such complete bell-ends for the previous months, all the narky pre-match songs, the banners, the abuse to Adkins and especially the cheating withdrawal of the ballboys and timewasting of their keeper from kick off, AND the way we'd scored so late as the 3 points themselves, I'd have been happy enough with a draw as far as promotion went and for me it was all about shutting up their load of bo11ocks.

Assuming they don't actually beat us on Saturday I'll be long over it though.

I know it's not like me to take a contrary position, but this is very much a derby. Last year saw to that. And before anyone goes on about that not being long enough, remember that their Palace 'derby' developed over a short space of time.

I call bolox on anyone saying that they don't care about Brighton. We all want bragging rights over them in ways that we wouldn't for say, Leeds, a much bigger club.

We especially want to see Gus 'Tactical Genius' Poyet, scourge of League One and accomplished acrobatics/acting coach, catch glimpses of his team played off the park ( when not gesticulating or holding his head in his hands ).

We then want to see a graceless interview in which he blames external factors for his own incompetence. We would then like to read North Stand Chat, largely to witness countless numpties defending him after yet another defeat and more poor PR, utterly blind to his numerous failings.

Of course, you could point out we Saints fans are blind to Nigel's failings too, but then, there's not much to go on :D
