Huffton Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 We support Southampton. I support Southampton in the league, and Totton in the non-leagues. Whats your point?
alehouseboys Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 And by definition I'll also support any team playing within the city limits. Unless they're playing Southampton. Being pedantic, they're not "within the city limits", Totton is a town in its own right to the west of Southampton. It's grown over the years as a bit of a city overspill but Southampton finishes at Redbridge in the west. Good luck to them though, hope they appreciated all the extra Saints support yesterday and don't grow to "hate" us like Bournemouth after we helped them out so many times

sotonswan Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 Just checked my ticket from yesterday to see if it might be any use getting one for round 2. Might as well be a raffle ticket. No club or fixture name on it. Ah well. If Gas get 15% tickets that's 345-ish, leaving about 2000-ish for locals. Will be a hard to get ticket. But I suspect this will be on telly, as a potential 'giant killing'. If ESPN could get it I'm sure they would as they were following Totton anyway:- http://www.youtube.com/user/ESPNUK?blend=1&ob=5#p/u/1/OYF9jfTBYfk
Rut Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 Stop! Stop! Stop! There is no Saints/Totton rivalry. Never has been - never will. Totton is a Saints stronghold. Having Saints clear at the top of the league and Totton making the FA Cup Rd 2 (and getting a cracking draw) is just amazing. The funny thing is that along with pub questions such as 'would you eat a bucket of sh#t for a million quid' there sometimes would be the stupid of question of 'what if Totton played Saints in the FA Cup - who would you support?'. That scenario is still a long way off. A damn sight closer than anyone could have dreamed of a few years back though. Surreal.

We all know Totton is a Saints stronghold, there was always a good bunch of lads that used to go from the Saxon and Red Lion back in the 70s/80s...I'd put a few names up but they may be a bit more responsible these days and wouldn't appreciate it
The Kraken Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 It's been done before for Salisbury (Who are further away)- I think they played Millwall at the Dell. I think the FA are much stricter on switching ties these days than they used to be ten or twenty years ago; there now has to be genuine concern as to the safety of the crowd for a tie to be switched. Lots of clubs used to reverse the fixture as a method of increasing revenue from the tie and, after putting up with it for only so long, the FA tightened up their regulations. In saying that, a switch to a local ground (i.e St. Mary's) may be a better way to get around it. Whether Totton would want to do that though is another matter altogether; they have a new stadium and were they to be rewarded with a televised ficture they would have a brilliant opportunity to bring revenue in and also showcase themselves at a club on national TV. um pahars Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 they have a new stadium and were they to be rewarded with a televised ficture they would have a brilliant opportunity to bring revenue in and also showcase themselves at a club on national TV. I think the fact they've got a new ground holding 2,500 would probably mean they would want to showcase it, plus Brizzle Rovers aren't the biggest of draws. Additionally, I imagine Totton would like to get through to the Third Round (and a huge draw) and would not want to lose their home advantage. That said, it's a close enough game that The Gas might want to bring a fair few down and with Saints away at Donny that day the attendance could be swelled. Swings and roundabouts, but on balance reckon they'll be happy to host ROvers over at Testwood.
Huffton Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 Like Um says its a bit of a double edged sword. Personally I hope they play at Testwood (and not just because its walking distance), for me the whole magic of the fa cup bit is just this, big teams having to come to non league outbacks, it awlays gives the minnows a shout at getting a shock. On the other side of the coin, the club could get a massive financial boost by playing it at SMS, although they would probably go out. Also the cynic in me wonders what Nicola would charge them for the use of the ground...

Having lashed out on a new ground, a TV game would be the perfect opportunity for them to showcase it. They's also be bringing in a fair wedge of money from TV rights; and there's no guarantee that moving the game to St. Mary's would bring in thousands more to the game; an extra 1,000 tickets sold at £15 each is "only" an extra 15K, and they'd get much more than that from TV rights. Much better IMO to reward the players and fans with a packed house at home; plus it gives them a better chance of turning Brizzle over and getting a shot against one of the Premier League sides. CLOTH EARS Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 As i am involved at the club i can tell you that. 1. We will do all we can to have the game played at The Testwood Stadium but ultimately it is not our decision. The FA and Police will decide if the Stadium can hold the fixture. 2. If we are given permission to play the game at our stadium it WILL be all ticket. 3. Bristol Rovers will have a say in how much the tickets will be so untill we speak to them i can't tell you the price of the tickets. I will keep you posted. I would also like to confirm that there is NO Saints hatred at Totton, most of us have been Saints St holders in years past. ( we do have two Pompey fans involved at the club and they get MAJOR stick for that.....in a nice way! ). Totton as a town is PRO Saints make no mistake. YES we are a town in our own right but we are PROUD to be next to the best city on the South Coast!

Huntingdon Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 It would be a pretty poor show if Totton's ground is considered unsuitable They've only just built the thing, surely they must have had ambitions to host games like this when they moved there
Lets B Avenue Posted 13 November, 2011 Share Posted 13 November, 2011 If its on TV it could well be on the Sunday, which will allow those of us going to Donny to go to this as well. Gemmel Posted 15 November, 2011 Share Posted 15 November, 2011 Absolutely delighted for Totton, they have a great set up there and some really good people working for the club. The new ground is excellent, although i wonder if they regret, not making more provision for away fans, (Not just for this game, but if the club keep moving forward).
