NorthstandChats obsession with Adkins??

We've been the biggest club for donkey's years I don't remember much hate when we were in the PL.

There's always been a jealousy. Only now as we get closer to reclaiming our rightful position of premier league superiority is the bitterness resurfacing.

some interesting views on here now!

post 205 someone genuinely surprised that anyone doesn't realise Brighton is a bigger club than us.

post 226 about how we won't keep up!

I know we all are blinkered towards their club, but amazing that people there aren't expecting more from the league 1 champions, with the great manager who has spent loads more than us but they still can't play decent football or keep up with many teams who have spent less!

He really uses some bizarre logic.

- Out of the last 45 years Saints have been in the top flight for 35 of them.

- Brighton on the other hand...? 4 years in their entire history.

- Saints have 9 FA Cup semi final appearances, 4 FA Cup final appearance, 1 FA Cup win, one League Cup final appearance and runners up in the top flight once. Plus achieved a European place on 5 occasions (participated in 4 European campaigns due to English clubs being banned). Brighton on the other hand?

He also mentions Saints only having 15k whilst at the Dell in the Premier League. I'd love to know how he thinks you can get more than 15k in a 15k capacity stadium. In the same way Brighton were restricted to 9k at the Withdean. He also overlooks Saints attendances whilst at St Mary's, averaging over 30k for every season between 2001 and 2005. They can't even sell out the 22k capacity Amex each game, despite having 18k season ticket holders.

I'm not sure it's about the clubs it's more about the managers. Brighton fans have taken a strong dis-like to Nigel and lets face most of us don't think a great deal of Poyet. Being resonably local (which allows for more away fans) just adds a bit more to the match.

It's not rivallry like saints/pompey or Brighton/Palace but there is a bit of neddle between the two sets of supporters which if you ask me is a good thing. The atmosphere at SMS is always better if the home and away fans are up for it.

Is about the size of it.

Unbelievable some of the stuff on there post 213 "Would put them with Big Sam's WHU as two teams who can't play fast technical play with skillful dribbling / passing etc - both rely on physical play, cynical play and percentages" - he certainly knows his football ha ha!

I believe that was a Brighton fan quoting a Southampton fan who posted it about Brighton in this thread. My head hurts..

To be fair a lot of the fans on there are responding with comments in the ilk of "Don't be a moron, we have no reason to hate Adkins/Southampton and look at the league, we're in no position to try to get one over" etc, it's just a vocal minority of morons as with most fanbases.

F**ks sake, just checked snd you're right I think. So we've both got plenty of berks that post absolute s***e on these boards.

To be fair, I think they are a cynical, percentage-playing side (not overly physical though) and they weren't even playing better football than us last season based on what we saw in our two matches, never mind this season. So not sure where the berk stuff comes from, it's a reasonable assessment.

Also, I will be more bothered about this fixture than most purely because of the rivalry they created last season, their general demeanour towards Adkins and the fact that we are now very much in the position to throw their mean-spiritedness right back at them.
