Saint Garrett Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 (edited) SAINTS strikers Jonathan Forte and Sam Hoskins have both joined Preston on one month loan deals. Forte, 25, has only featured in the Carling Cup this season, while Hoskins, 18, has made one substitute appearance for the first-team. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/9350763.Strike_duo_join_Preston/ Edited 8 November, 2011 by stevegrant added reference - if you're going to quote verbatim, please also post a link
shurlock Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Both Hume and Mellor are injured for them, so they're short of striking options. Mellor has looked good this season and is still a potential HCDAJFU.
London Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Both Hume and Mellor are injured for them, so they're short of striking options. Mellor has looked good this season and is still a potential HCDAJFU. Is he Johnno quick though? ;-)
Andy Durman Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Please don't forget what Forte brings to training -SPEED and competition!!!!! If some other player is faster than I am in training then that makes me try harder. Johnno is doing a great job for the squad.
Matthew Le God Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Mellor has looked good this season and is still a potential HCDAJFU. Are you seriously suggesting Neil Mellor is a good option for a team at the top of the Championship?
once_bitterne Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Chaplow and Lallana are going up to watch Preston play on Saturday according to their Twitters...
Saint Garrett Posted 8 November, 2011 Author Posted 8 November, 2011 Chaplow and Lallana quite often exchange tweets with Mellor
Nexstar Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Good to see a few of our younger players going out on loan to league clubs now, exactly what they need.
Saint J 77 Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I wonder if this means we are making space to bring anyone in on loan up front?
david in sweden Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Can't we just give them Forte? SELL - you mean. I'm sure they'll find some cash if he (Forte) gets a few goals this weekend. It'll more interesting to see if Sam Hoskins can get some playing time. He seems a good prospect and a game or two in a " big boys league" will do him no harm at all, and maybe invaluable in his football education. Let's hope they both get the desired success.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I wonder if this means we are making space to bring anyone in on loan up front? Don't know, wouldn't think that players available for loan and good enough to play for Saints are very common nowadays.
Mr Saints Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Good move for them both. Suprised Dickson hasn't made a similar move yet.
This Charming Man Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 SELL - you mean. I'm sure they'll find some cash if he (Forte) gets a few goals this weekend. I'd rather we just got rid. It's embarrassing that we have a footballer as bad as him at our club.
david in sweden Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Good move for them both. Suprised Dickson hasn't made a similar move yet. we're still 6 weeks away from the transfer window - don't hold your breath.
david in sweden Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I'd rather we just got rid. It's embarrassing that we have a footballer as bad as him at our club. perhaps this may highlight the difference between... L1 and CC. I've always said that the difference between the bottom club in the Prem. and the CC champions is much more than ONE place, it's awhole different class of football, and this has been apparant almost every season. The newly-promoted sides are glad to survive, at least for a season or two - whilst those relegated are often back up in one /two years. What will we all say - if Forte becomes a scoring sensation at PNE? He's good, but never had a chance at SMS ..or ..at that level (L1)... almost anyone ought to score !
SuperMikey Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Forte isn't as bad as people say he is, I just don't think he's cut out for this level. He would be a good striker for a mid-lower L1 team. Like was said above, will be interesting to see if Sam Hoskins gets any game time. He's quick, sharp and works very hard. Good potential.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Good move for them both. Suprised Dickson hasn't made a similar move yet. Isn't he injured......!! Was at the time of the last League Cup game.
Crowds Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Cheeky bid for pavlyuchenko jan hahah why not!!!!
Saint_clark Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I'd rather we just got rid. It's embarrassing that we have a footballer as bad as him at our club. What a load of rubbish. Your post I mean, not Forte.
SO16_Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Cheeky bid for pavlyuchenko jan hahah why not!!!! I have heard that we are in for a spurs striker in the window
scotty Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I have heard that we are in for a spurs striker in the window chili?
trousers Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I have heard that we are in for a spurs striker in the window Giovani Dos Santos?
Gis Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I have heard that we are in for a spurs striker in the window According to the OS a Kudus Oyenuga (triallist) played for the U21s today, 18 year old Spurs forward according to Google (presuming as the song goes there is just one Kudus Oyenuga). Doesn't look like a ready replacement for SRL, at 5'9" and just 18 but you never know.
SO16_Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Giovani Dos Santos? Don't know who unfortunately but this may be a good shout - don't think he's getting many games, is he??
John Boy Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I have heard that we are in for a spurs striker in the window Do you think Spurs are seeing if we are still gullible enough to fall for a repeat of the Tommy Forecast gag: trying to swap a Donkey for one of our Throughbreds again!!!
Armitage Shanks Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Whilst some may not rate Forte, he wil alwaya play a large part in Saints history in years to come. At least he will for me. When he came off the bench last season and scored those two goals in the home game to MK Dons which turned the match in the space of a few minutes, that match was seen as the turning point of our season. Don't be too hard on him.
SparkySaint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 We needed something when Forte came on in the MK Dons game and we certainly got it. He played his part and I wish him well. He brought more to the table than Forecast and Pulis
VectisSaint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Well Forte has an assist to his name tonight.

Don't be too hard on him. This! People are very quick to knock players despite the fact they have made valuable contributions to the team. Just because he hasnt had a lot of pitch time doesnt make him a terrible player. Barnard isnt getting a look in at the moment, and last season connolly went 4 months (whilst he was fit) without a game. Doesnt mean they cant/couldnt offer anything. Ok, he's not the leading championship level striker we want, but had we have had the 7 sub rule i think he'd have still made a good impact sub running at a tired defence. I think this is a good move for both clubs though.

Bucks Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 What a load of rubbish. Your post I mean, not Forte. Clearly you were not at Palace. Against L1 opposition (i.e not their first team) could not have been less interested or less competent.
doddisalegend Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Clearly you were not at Palace. Against L1 opposition (i.e not their first team) could not have been less interested or less competent. TBH calling him a bad player after one bad game is just as stupid as making out he is brillant just becuase he scored against MK Dons...........
chocco boxo Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 We needed something when Forte came on in the MK Dons game and we certainly got it. He played his part and I wish him well. He brought more to the table than Forecast and Pulis So Did Osher Williams.
david in sweden Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 Well Forte has an assist to his name tonight. yes I saw that, but I bet he's glad he didn't have to take part in the penalty shoot-out that won the game for North End...if he'd missed that he'd be out !
James Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 TBH calling him a bad player after one bad game is just as stupid as making out he is brillant just becuase he scored against MK Dons........... He was also garbage when we played Preston at home in the cup. I thank him for what he did against MK Dons and for being part of what may prove to be a huge turning point in our recent history. But, the fact remains he is far from good enough to play at this level. Good for him that he's off out on loan, but if it became permanent I doubt we'd miss him too much tbh.
Charlie Wayman Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 I was surprised to see Hoskins go out but not at all surprised to see Forte go, after all Phil Brown has been making inquiries about him according to press snippets so that one looks like a done deal. But then I was surprised when Gilllett went off to Donny and Lloyd James went off to... etc. No doubt Adkins and Co have assessed the lad so maybe he just doesn't have what they're looking for? I don't buy this "out for experience" lark, how many lads come back and make it to their first teams? You tell me Welbeck, I'll tell you Cork etc
VectisSaint Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 ...but not at all surprised to see Forte go, after all Phil Brown has been making inquiries about him according to press snippets so that one looks like a done deal. But then I was surprised when Gilllett went off to Donny and Lloyd James went off to... etc. Unlikely that there is any "done deal" involving Forte. If there was then Saints would not have insisted on him not playing in the FA Cup. Although I don't rate him, that does show that he still is in Adkins plans.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 Unlikely that there is any "done deal" involving Forte. If there was then Saints would not have insisted on him not playing in the FA Cup. Although I don't rate him, that does show that he still is an emergency option in Adkins plans. Amended for you!
stu0x Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 I don't buy this "out for experience" lark, how many lads come back and make it to their first teams? You tell me Welbeck, I'll tell you Cork etc Evans, Cleverley, Song, Ramsey, Gibbs, Wilshere, Djourou, Milner, Johnson, Hart... for players at big teams who have been developed there (as opposed to bought in later), it's pretty common.
Bucks Saint Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 TBH calling him a bad player after one bad game is just as stupid as making out he is brillant just becuase he scored against MK Dons........... You were not there either then. I did not call him "bad" at all. To do so would have been injustice to other bad players. Poor games I can handle. But anyone there witnessed a total lack of effort or interest, combined with very poor technical ability
Jez Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 No doubt Adkins and Co have assessed the lad so maybe he just doesn't have what they're looking for? I don't buy this "out for experience" lark, how many lads come back and make it to their first teams? You tell me Welbeck, I'll tell you Cork etc wow, another gem from Charlie! So in your opinion, its a waste of time young players going out on loan?
david in sweden Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 Unlikely that there is any "done deal" involving Forte. If there was then Saints would not have insisted on him not playing in the FA Cup. Although I don't rate him, that does show that he still is in Adkins plans. I think that's just camouflage and business-nous. Forte is only picked for our "Cup squads " ...when the regular team is rested and Bart and the second string get a run-out. If we let Preston use him now, then he couldn't play for us (or anyone else) later on, and we are already admitting that we don't want him. If they do buy him, and are still in the FA Cup after round 3, then they can play him after the deal goes through. If he was to eventually sign for someone else, they couldn't use him in the Cup either, if he's played for another club already. ...but I still think he'll go ...for a small, but reasonable fee.....say 100/150K ?
doddisalegend Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 You were not there either then. I did not call him "bad" at all. To do so would have been injustice to other bad players. Poor games I can handle. But anyone there witnessed a total lack of effort or interest, combined with very poor technical ability It's still only 1 game.......... De Ridder was shocking that night (he said so himself. I believe he called it his worst ever performance) does that mean he is also worse than bad?
This Charming Man Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 What a load of rubbish. Your post I mean, not Forte. Why? I feel embarrassed for him when he goes to control the ball and it bounces off his shin, or he aims a shot goalwards (I appreciate this doesn't happen very often) and it trickles to the keeper as if a 4 year old has hit it. It's better for everyone involved if we just get rid.
This Charming Man Posted 9 November, 2011 Posted 9 November, 2011 It's still only 1 game.......... De Ridder was shocking that night (he said so himself. I believe he called it his worst ever performance) does that mean he is also worse than bad? De Ridder has ability and lots of it. Yes he can be a bit hit and miss at times but there is no denying he is a decent player and that's clear for all to see. You only need to watch Forte for 5mins to see that he is nowhere near good enough for this standard. Hence why he's not allowed anywhere near our league team and has been shipped out after his 'efforts' at Palace the other week.
