Jonno obviously isn't going to get much playing time at SMS(and thats where it counts)...I think most people would admit that (despite NOT signing an extra striker in the summer) we do need an extra "front man " - and Forte " just 'aint it ! ". Cue for Nigel's well-worded farewell speech...along the lines of ... " Jonno's a great lad, but he knows he'll have limited chances here. He came to us when we needed help the most and got us some valuable goals which helped us win promotion. I'm sure he'll do well at Preston and we all wish him good luck in the future " ...or something of the sort. ...and they all lived happily ever after. Panda Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 From that article too "Manager Phil Brown has already signed German goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann, 30, on a one-month deal as cover for the injured Iain Turner." Good grief, is Iain still playing? He must in his late 50's now.

The NPC is a different prospect to L1. I imagine Nigel thought he could bring him on as a player, but that it hasnt really worked, why else would he not be getting on the pitch? After all, NA signed him and knew him well already.

You have clearly demonstrated that you are indeed the fecktard. Forte scored two tap ins. That does not make him a world beater alone. He played his part, he is still absolutely **** and therefor not needed.

Really there was I thinking it was team game? I seem to remember someone passing to him for the two taps in. I agree though he hasn't done anything to warrant some of the comments above... david in sweden Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 I'm sure he'd be a good player ..somewhere else, but at present he's not likely to get picked... as long as he's got laces in his boots. Whatever he did (well) last season..doesn't make him an asset now. Would you give him a regular place on the bench..ahead of Connolly, or De Ridder? Fan The Flames Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 Unfortunately he didn't make the grade here, classless to call him ****. Thanks for the goals good luck Jono.
Paul Chuckle Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 He's a victim of the 5 sub rule IMO. If we had 7 subs each game he'd be on the bench and probably made a few appearances this season.

The Kraken Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 He's a victim of the 5 sub rule IMO. If we had 7 subs each game he'd be on the bench and probably made a few appearances this season. I think he's the victim of not being good enough, really. Despite some important goals he's never really looked like he could make a lasting impact for us in the league; as has been said he was probably bought with "impact sub" in mind, but having been overtaken by de Ridder, Forte has really gone backwards and probably isn't doing himself any favours at all by missing out on so much game time. I of course wish him no ill will and, if he does leave, I hope he can push on and pick his career back up again. But he unfortunately will go down as a signing for us that just didn't work out. ant Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 Despite the criticisms of him, I get the feeling that he could be a better player with an extended run of playing time and build of confidence. Likely not with us however. If he goes then I'll never forget his significant cameos, but overall I'd think it a mutually beneficial move.
alpine_saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 I said something similar over Pulis, and I will say it again : I think its appaling when Saints fans make a certain player of ours the butt of their jokes and are not very pleasant about that player. OK, so Forte hasnt made the grade in the face of some very stiff opposition, but I am sure he has given 100% to the cause and, has been mentioned, he scored a couple of CRITCAL goals for us last season. shurlock Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 (edited) Got two vital goals against franchise and looked decent when he came off the bench at Rochdale; but generally he has come up v.short. Not to say he has been given chances - he was preferred to Connolly for a while and started some crunch games -Brighton away was a massive call. And we're still crying out for pace. But he hasn't taken them. The arrival of SDR, the five sub rule, the likely arrival of another striker in Jan and his performances in the cup make it pretty clear his future lies elsewhere. Would have been nice to see him play on the wing rather down the middle; but NA knows best. Edited 8 November, 2011 by shurlock

LostBoys Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 I really do not understand slagging off one of your own players. Forte has had limited opportunities here and when he has had them he has generally not done well. Ok that's football and he will have to go elsewhere. We should remember that SFC in the days of the dark lord otherwise known as the arrogant t**t a number of players left the club who have managed to do very well elsewhere. If he goes he should be remembered for MK Dons and we should wish him well.

I think that this is precisely the situation. If we didn't have DeRidder then Forte would have been on the bench as the impact player with a turn of speed. He has been pushed down the order a bit so it makes sense for him to go on loan. And for those sneering at him - he had to be in the right position for the tap-ins. That is a skill in itself. once_bitterne Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 He scored a few very important goals that played a part in our promotion so he did his bit. However, we are no longer in L1 and this is his level. Nothing wrong with that, but a move back to L1 would do him good. The Cat Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 She'll be off once he's transferred to Hartlepool or Rochdale. As for Forte, he may as well move as he's never going to get into our squad. Personally I don't see anything wrong with making players the butt of a joke either. It's been going on forever. I'm sure he won't lose any sleep about a few people on the internet saying he's not that good.
Brussels Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 I have theory about Forte and why he is at the club. Yes he can be a potentially useful impact sub, but never was likely to make the grade even in that restricted role. Anyone else think he may be most useful and signed as a player, to effectively test our defensive formations against blistering pace on the training field. If we are playing the following week against quick strikers, I imagine it would be useful to accurately represent that in defensive sessions with the first choice back 4. As NA states, "its a squad game" so perhaps Forte's most important contribution actually happens behind closed doors.

Well said. He was bought in as added depth for a league 1 team sitting uncertainly in the playoff positions and in need of more pace and options. Many of the same people now criticising Forte were then bemoaning how slow Lambert had become. He's provided that and scored a few vital goals along the way. Why anyone would slag him off now he is likely heading back to lg 1 to play regularly is beyond me. Edited 8 November, 2011 by buctootim
corky morris Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 This makes sense on all levels. We have no cup games until January, he wont get in the 16 ahead of DeRidder, Connolly & Barnard, He needs to play regularly & if we have a lot of injuries we can call him back. Mowgli Posted 8 November, 2011 Share Posted 8 November, 2011 Yes I think Doble is still at Bournemouth but not featuring. Sky sport also reported the other week that Jack Dovey was on loan to Eastleigh. Forte looks like it might not be made permanent as OS are saying he is not eligible for cup games. I don't think there is any reason to make Hoskins permanent as he has been doing quite well for us.

I'm sure the OS stated that he returned from Bournemouth over a month ago? I read that had Dovey gone on a short term loan (to Eastleigh?), but he must have come back as he was sub.goalie in League Cup game v. Palace . Sam Hoskins is said to be a great prospect. I don't believe that a full transfer is even being contemplated. He hasn't even played in the First team yet. It's "work experience" at a higher level.
