I like that a lot. Fair play to them. Buying those shirts probably cost Portvleit about half his weeks wages.

Jan and Mark had a thankless task when they were here - in their defence I'd say we played some of the most attractive football for years with our "kids" and limited resources, even though it didn't last too long once the lack of quality in depth was exposed and the physical demands of the league kicked in.

I don't post often, more of an observer on the site. However, I must echo the words of somptingsaint. Mark Wotte stood by Saints during our darkest hours, he tried to put out a young attacking side and keep the 'ball rolling'. He was gutted at the end having signed a new contract to be shown the door. He left with dignity and our thanks. I liked the bloke, he once gave my son a Saints baseball cap as we stood watching training one day when it was ****ing down!

Good guy imho, hope he can sort out the sweaty socks.

Seemed a nice chap and him and JP were thrown in at the deep end and to be honest i loved watching our passing at times just a shame we could have played stern john and sagawoski more and we would of stayed up.

He knows his stuff and after reading that story earlier in the thread fair play to the bloke.

I wouldnt mind Jan back as a coach to be honest, seemed a great coach.

Will probably do as well as Burley when he went north. He told me McGoldrick was going to be the next big thing in English football. Not a favourite ,too in love with himself , but glad he had a kind side when it mattered.

Ah so you were his Southampton lady friend!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one left with this impression of a difficult time in our history... I would have loved for that experiment to turn out well! And I certainly prefer our chosen route to the one our blue neighbours chose when in economical trouble...
