Tamesaint Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 It is good to hear the EIEIO song which has a great ring to it. How old is it?? Does it date back to the 60's?? I think that I have very vague memories of hearing it when I was a young lad and Ron Davies was our king.... but I am not sure if my memory is playing tricks on me. Can anybody help??
Saint_Jonny Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Yea I remember singing it at pre school, those were the days. I always rolled over laughing when the teacher said "and an oink oink here and an oink oink there!" Quality.

I think that I have very vague memories of hearing it when I was a young lad and Ron Davies was our king.... but I am not sure if my memory is playing tricks on me. Can anybody help?? in the 60's & 70's it was sung whilst jumping up and down on the terraces Knees up Mother Brown Knees up Mother Brown Under the table you must go Ee-aye, Ee-aye, Ee-aye-oh If I catch you bending I'll saw your legs right off Knees up, knees up Never get the breeze up Knees up Mother Brown Oh my, what a rotten song What a rotten song What a rotten song Oh my, what a rotten song And what a rotten singer Too-oo-ooh
The Kraken Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 I only remember it as a Leeds song; can't remember us ever singing it before.
saintmatt Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Good song, always sung loudly. Brace yourself though, you're about to be shouted down by people who hate fun.
Saint_Jonny Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 I don't mind it really, prefer the "now your ganna believe us" one, but that can wait til about March Saying that, aren't we top of the football league, so singing this song makes us look a bit dumb!
Minsk Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 I can remember it being sung/danced at the Dell in the 70's.
krissyboy31 Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Hate it!!! It's a two bob song sung by two bob clubs. Never sung by teams in the Premier League because it's a Football League song. Hopefully after this season I wont have to ever hear it again.
Appy Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 First i heard of it was Watford singing it in 05/06. We've got Marlon King.
stkev7 Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 First i heard of it was Watford singing it in 05/06. We've got Marlon King. Watford fans singing?! I think you've got that wrong.
adrian lord Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 When was the last time we were able to celebrate top of the league status in song? 1983-4 Season. Bloody well enjoy it - it is once in a generation! Ok this is just the Championship, but YKWIM.
benjii Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Hate it!!! It's a two bob song sung by two bob clubs. Never sung by teams in the Premier League because it's a Football League song. Hopefully after this season I wont have to ever hear it again. Agree.
Barry the Badger Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Hate it!!! It's a two bob song sung by two bob clubs. Never sung by teams in the Premier League because it's a Football League song. Hopefully after this season I wont have to ever hear it again. What are you on about? It's not sung by teams in the Premier League because it's about promotion. What exactly do you hate about it?
Viking Warrior Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Was singing it in the early 70's and possibly late 60's
Badger Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 First i heard of it was Watford singing it in 05/06. We've got Marlon King. I recall a version being sung in the Northam club about WGS the night we beat Spurs to start the cup run.
musesaint Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 What are the actual words? People seem to be singing about 5 different versions around me
hamster Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 I sort of recall something in the same vein but slightly different words: EI EI EIO Off to football we shall go ??? ???? It was a kind of kids chant, innocent little song about lads going to a match with their old men with flat caps on and the like, you know, whippet on a bit of string, cup of bovril, sat on Dad's shouldres, travelling to the match on the same bus as Dixie Dean, that sort of rubbish. ;-)
Sour Mash Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 What are you on about? It's not sung by teams in the Premier League because it's about promotion. What exactly do you hate about it? Agreed, its a decent song and always easy to make a bit of a racket when it gets going.
Dr Who? Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 EI EI EI O Up the football league we go, when we reach the Premier League this is what we're sing We're Southampton, we're Southampton Nigel is our King (or Adkins)
Dr Who? Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 I also like the 'we're on the march of Adkins army we're all going to Wembley, and we're really shake them up when we win the FA Cup, coz Southampton are the greatest football team.......then the deep breath and even louder. Same as the forementioned EI EI EI O song it really builds up and can be very loud!
SFCDan Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 EI EI EI O Up the football league we go, when we reach the Premier League this is what we're sing We're Southampton, we're Southampton Nigel is our King (or Adkins) I've always heard/sung "When we get promoted This is what we'll sing"
Mowgli Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Hate it!!! It's a two bob song sung by two bob clubs. Never sung by teams in the Premier League because it's a Football League song. Hopefully after this season I wont have to ever hear it again. Thought I heard Manchester Utd signing it at the weekend. Definately one of the Premier matches on MOTD saturday.
Dr Who? Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 I've always heard/sung "When we get promoted This is what we'll sing" That works to, but I think it changes over time, and during this part you will notice a dip in the volume as people are a little unsure!! Defo used to be when we reach the premier league a few years back!
hamster Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 The only song that can shine a light at OWTS (when sung slowly) is: Southampton [clap, clap, clap] Repeat
Dr Who? Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 The only song that can shine a light at OWTS (when sung slowly) is: Southampton [clap, clap, clap] Repeat Classic
Genk Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 No, it has always been: 'When we win promotion, this is what we'll sing'
Saint Posted 7 November, 2011 Posted 7 November, 2011 Worst song we sing. Except maybe 'Let's all have a disco.' Just sounds boring.
Hemel Saint Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Worst song we sing.... Personally I don't care if it is. Its easy to catch on , its got an up-volume line with the "EI EI EI O" bit, so sounds effing loud to the players and also against the opposition fans. sort of does the job, doesn't it!! Is that not what chants/songs are supposed to do???
Giordano Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 It's an east London song, typically West Ham sing it. We sung it at the Dell early eighties I remember but it was then and always has been a London cockney song. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.393910,-0.412951
SuperMikey Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Worst song we sing. Except maybe 'Let's all have a disco.' Just sounds boring. F*cking hate it when we sing that, it's just embarrassing. We're not Burnley ffs.

Exactly.....it's not about appearing cool in front of your mates, worrying about what opposing supporters might think - just Support with a capital 'S'
dune Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 F*cking hate it when we sing that, it's just embarrassing. We're not Burnley ffs. Have you ever been to Burnley?
Ken Tone Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 First i heard of it was Watford singing it in 05/06. We've got Marlon King. Jesus. How old are you? It's been sung for decades, even in the 60's and 70's whensinging as such first really got going at matches, by just about every team on a promotion run. IMO we should make the most of it whilst we can!
dune Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 my claim to fame is getting the "my old man said be a pompey fan"song going at the southern masters and giving the sky producers a headache as the desperately tried to talk over it.
Viking Warrior Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 We also sang In your XXX slums you go into a dustbin for something to eat you find a dead cat and you think its a treat One of the best songs was the Mickey Evans song Nah nah nah na Hey hey Micky Evanor Hey Mickey your so fine your so fine you blow my mind I remember loads of us going up to Villa wearing straw hats and having straw hanging from our mouths as well as donning fake versions of Evans' then trademark bushy sideburns
Cricketphilly Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 in the 60's & 70's it was sung whilst jumping up and down on the terraces Knees up Mother Brown Knees up Mother Brown Under the table you must go Ee-aye, Ee-aye, Ee-aye-oh If I catch you bending I'll saw your legs right off Knees up, knees up Never get the breeze up Knees up Mother Brown Oh my, what a rotten song What a rotten song What a rotten song Oh my, what a rotten song And what a rotten singer Too-oo-ooh I remember singing this one

The9 Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I've always heard/sung "When we get promoted This is what we'll sing" Quite. I have also heard "promotion" from some people around me. The "when we reach the Premier League" thing is surely an overactive imagination, never heard it sung. I recall Newport County singing "We are County, Ashurst is our king" in 1980 when they got out of Division 4.

Well I also used to think it was Chrisy Nicholls still in the army, rather than red and white army, when i first started going to football..... no idea why lol

Golden Balls Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 it's a Football League song. Hopefully after this season I wont have to ever hear it again. Don't be so sure... "E I E I E I O Up the premier League we go When we get to Europe This is what we'll sing We are Southampton, we are Southampton Adkins is our king"
Dr Who? Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Don't be so sure... "E I E I E I O Up the premier League we go When we get to Europe This is what we'll sing We are Southampton, we are Southampton Adkins is our king" I think we may have sang this under WGS?
Mattio Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 I think we may have sang this under WGS?Sung by time-travellers?
MadDogMatt Posted 8 November, 2011 Posted 8 November, 2011 Checked with Rupert L, he said its not "get promoted" or "get promotion" its "get repromotion"
