I can only think of one good thing about getting back in the Premier.

Worldwide publicity....

That's it really as we have it so good now that I don't want it to change.

I hate the thought of prawn sarnie fans, struggle for tickets, losing games, relegation battles, Wenger & Ferguson blaming on the refs when they play us, over priced tickets, more moaners in the crowd & finally some of our players getting taking off us like Lallana & Guly.

You agree?

You can look at it both ways I guess...

prawn sarnie fans - more fans means better atmosphere

struggle for tickets - I don't remember it ever being that hard if you want one you will get one

losing games - perhaps, but the wins feel so much better too

relegation battles - are exciting

Wenger & Ferguson blaming on the refs when they play us - means we've beaten them and are all going mental

over priced tickets - can't really argue with that

more moaners in the crowd - we're at a stage now where expectations are so high, if we start to slip I think there will be a LOT of moaners anyway.

finally some of our players getting taking off us like Lallana & Guly - more likely to happen if we don't get promoted

If we dont take the chance when we have it then who is to say that next year or the year after will be as things are now. Will the team lose its core and togetherness. Will our ambitious manager leave for pastures new? Will our ambitious Chairman take action that disgruntles the fan base? Will the losing run that we go on (to miss out on promotion) make the support become disaffected.

Keep the momentum, keep the team spirit, keep the support building and take promotion.

There is a tide in the lives of men which, if taken at its flood, leads to fortune.

add to that list of **** things, quiet but expensive away grounds; far less 3pm k/o (a ****ter for us that travel from outside southampton); more hype than you need; everyone and their dog having an opinion on your side despite only watching match of the day; no more of the real football experiences that you get outside the prem.

Still we would get to see some of the best players in the world, have Southampton the city known round the world again and be able to attract/keep good players.

So for football players/team much better, for the fans [arguably] much worse.

Living over here? Simple answer. Every Saints game Live & on TV. No more What we doooown't want to dooooo now is......

Downside. It isn't football anymore. We identify with this team because they have been together for a while.

We are winning football matches. Sod the TV that feels great.

Just imagine the amount of ammo the moaners would have every week on the match day thread..

Yuk

Absolutely.

Though I was really p*ssed off at my sons game last week, when I was talking to the club secretary and I mentioned Matthew LeTissier, and he said he'd never heard of him. That was when we were in the PL, and this bloke is supposed to be a football fan (his kids wear Chelsea and Mayoo kits in training)

From my viewpoint it's not so good - at least now we virtually play every Saturday - with TV I guess we will a high percentage of games wanting to be televised?

Then you get the away fans in greater numbers? I expect more for the London & Manchester games - but Bolton, Blackburn & alike will bring as many as most Championship sides!

Ticket prices away from home will dictate SMS will be more expensive. What IF we set off in The Premiership like we have done this season in The Championship?

The clamour to get more top quality players to bolster our squad worries me. I watched Spurs the other night - and technically they were man for man better than us without Bale playing.

Full houses virtually guaranteed regardless how we are playing due to the draw for the neutral to see Premiership football live - let's face it much easier to visit SMS than most London clubs with away allocations accounting for the majority of spare seats!

As for world wide exposure - not sure I'm bothered.

I kinda like winning - in any League and after a couple of seasons I actually like the feeling of going in on Monday and discussing the weekends games including the mighty Saints winning again!

Many good points above, but the major advantage to promotion this season is surely to keep the Liebherrs on board.

Saints in the PL is what Markus wanted and it is enough to be able to honour his memory. However, the level of commitment of his family is an unknown factor, but they are probably not keen on faffing around the lower leagues (inc NPC) for too long.

The PL, of course, is a whole new ball game for owners and the Liebherrs may well come to the party big time and can only have been impressed by the progress the club has made if we promote this season.

Alternatively, they may want to cash in on PL status and sell, but we should still be okay as NC has promised to find a good buyer (ie cashed up) in such circumstance and someone buying a PL club would presumably want to invest in it to try and make a success of it.

Still think the Liebherrs would want to stay on board almost like a proxy for Markus who would have had so much fun with "his" club taking on the PL big boys!

But, all of this is dependent on PL status (even if it is a s**t league!) and we really need to keep the momentum going to maximise the clubs opportunities. Whose to say we are guaranteed promotion next season if we stuff up this time around and we couldn't be in a much better position than we are right now. All the hard work's been done so far, it would be tragic really to miss out on such a glorious opportunity to advance our great club ...

Although i would like us back in the Prem,i worry about the price increase we would see.Hopefully the club will realise that many of us have supported the team through thick and thin, but i doubt it.

I think if Saints followed the example set by Norwich, who actually treat their fans fairly, then i for one would be very happy.

Bragging rights is what it's all about. That occasional win over the Liverpools and Man Utds is priceless.

The biggest concern I have is the cost and the writing is on the wall that Cortese will ramp the prices. Away games too will become obscenely expensive. I dread to think what Arsenal and Chelsea are charging now.

Many aspire, but few will ever be the perfect fan like you.

The PL is a mixed blessing no question. The Championship feels like a good place to be right now, not just because it's a more even contest than the PL and because we're currently top but I think because we've been promoted into it. The Championship didn'tfeel like a good place to be when we were relegated into it and I reckon the novelty would soon wear off if we got stuck in it like, say, Coventry. We can't not aim for promotion but going back to seasons of failing to get in the top 6 or avoiding relegation or spending big and failing or becoming a yo yo club isn't greatly appealing. It's down to the skewed economics of football. It's a conundrum. Maybe all we can do is enjoy the moment.

Being able to see (work permitting) every single match live out here in Dubai on Satellite. However unless i subscribe to The Abu Dhabi Sports channel which I can't get on my present set up / dish / decoder etc I'd be drinking lager or at best Kilkenny for 6 quid a pint in smokey pubs (no smoking ban here yet) instead of bottled Old Speckled Hen from my fridge.

Downside not knowing exactly what it is that we don't want to do nowism's from Merry Dave to keep me in the picture and missing all ther banter with my Matchday Thread buddies from around the world ;)

Planning leave to include a match and then finding the *****s have brought it forward or delayed it for Sky. :x

to be honest I'd rather we were a non-league club.

prawn sarnie fans - none whatsoever. That is no fans, prawn-sarnie or otherwise

struggle for tickets - no tickets needing printing because no fans

losing games - the result remains unknown because there are no fans. Falling tree in forest makes no sound etc.

relegation battles - promotion battles are unknown because there are no fans to know if they were a battle or not.

Wenger & Ferguson blaming on the refs when they play us - the non-existent fans are probably wearing Manure or R-snail shirts anyway

over priced tickets - no tickets, no price because no fans

more moaners in the crowd - no moaners at all because no crowd. No crowd because you need fans for a crowd to form

finally some of our players getting taking off us like Lallana & Guly - no one will know if they are taken off us because there would be no fans to know this knowledge.

Actually, come to think about it, why not give the Prem a bash?

The PL has become a boring commercial enterprise and bloody boring as that. Just look at the **** boring teams there (Wigan,Blackburn,Wolves,Bolton ) and their half-empty grounds. Thats unless Utd are the visiters. Pathetic.

But i want us to win every game in the Championship and that will mean promotion , IF we keep doing that. Catch 22 really.

Really enjoying us winning a few matches these days. There were some grim months during the 90's when a win was such a rareity and life wasn't all that fun.

Still think we'll have a tough season ahead of us once the hick-ups arrive. Top six would still be a positive.

Also more money through tv and with a bigger fanbase, maybe the ground will be expanded. I guess it will depend if the Liebherr family wish to keep hold of the club and invest long-term. I hope they do keep ownership as they are investing in the right areas eg improving the training ground.

I'll take the prawn sandwich any day over the pie and " do I get a discount with my asbo" brigade. I love it in the Championship and would not be unhappy if things continued as they are. But this status quo can never last and it won't be the star players being prised away, they will be asking to go along with anything that proves to be successful. The standard of the football in the Premier can be breath taking and I don't expect many fans of teams that can compete in the Premier wanting to turn their backs upon that. When you have a set of ardent fans who will watch any sheite going because it is their team, over those that go dependent upon the quality of football, is there really a question here?

I want my team to be the best it can be, with every player donning the red and white being able to test themselves against the best footballers on the planet.

There are hundreds of reasons why the PL is great. I'm loving the NPC, but it's silly to say we're happy to stay in the second tier. Really silly imo.

this....

buuuuut i am getting used to this winning thing.... with the best will in the world we won't get as many wins in the PL

the liebherrs will not finance the club as markus would have, and so i it a double edged sword

Unfortunately if we get promoted from the Championship we'll end up in the Prem with all of it's vacuous bullsh!111!t, not much else we can do about it.

One good thing about getting back to the Prem would be having a really good enjoyable season this year with lots of wins and the excitement of promotion and winning the league. That would be a good thing I think.

Once we're there, we'll be back to the old ways of celebrating our semi-frequent wins over Manure, Arse and the rest.

If we have the ambition and financial backing that many have alluded to and the ambition is actually to compete in the PL then I will very much look forward to it. For so many years when we were there all we realistically wanted each season was survival, which was grim and depressing and made most of us the pessimists we are. We spent many games just hoping for a draw before we'd kicked a ball and watched as young players developed , and speculated about how long it would be before they were noticed and taken by someone with more ambition.

When we get back there It will be different this time.

If the big clubs like Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea come calling for our top young stars then we're not going to be any more successful in holding on to them as we have done in the past.
