I have heard we were never in for lukas. He is desperate to come to us and has been trying to get a move since we were in league one. We have turned him down every time.

I have heard from one of his close mates we were in for lukas but nothing came of it . He is not desperate to come to us and has not been trying to get a move since we were in league one.

Funny. I spoke to a member of his family today. Apparently we HAVE been talking to Coventry who even agreed a fee with us (thought around 3mil but they weren't sure), but Lukas turned it down as he thought (probably correctly) he won't be a regular first team starter with us which is what he wants at this stage of his career. This member of the family spoke to Lukas 2 days ago.

That good then because...

Who cares, he's **** anyway.

People seem to be of the opinion that Lambert will be leaving.

If that happens, if, it will be interesting to evaluate our ambitions for the season. Could we buy a couple of cheap replacements and still finish comfortably ?

Settle down, Ricky will not be leaving even if he wanted. It would take nigh on Oxo money to be even considered by Cortese. But I would like to see Lukas J come here, always an option when the midfield is not able to take control and at other times. I can understand if he thinks he wont get enough game time, that will always be an issue, but I expect we can make an attractive deal for Coventry to push him our way.

Played a few times on loan for Huddersfield, while still on Everton's books. Was truly awful, and on the list for all-time worst players for Town.

I think he has done enough since then to throw that particular experience off and rebuild his reputation.

well I do hope you're right Dibden

..there are 21 points to be had before January and a serious injury problem up front could cost us the fantastic lead we have built up so far.....[/QUOTE]

Well here we are back again . Remember that post from 24th November..?.

In the eight games since then - we have " amassed " (if thats the right word ?...... a paltry 8 points from the last 24 and scored only 7 goals.

We talked then about getting " cover / back-up / another partner " for Ricky Lambert. Well now we have 3 games without RL.

All those people who said we didn't need another " anything " and the squad was OK...what now ?

I wasn't "waiting" for Lambert to get injured as one ***** suggested, but statistically speaking ...**** happens , this time it's a three match suspension.

and it's the Lord Mayor's show - big time. Our only " established " striker, (aside from a recuperating David Connolly)...is Jonathan Forte.

This isn't hindsight.. (though there were some pretty sarcastic replies at the time). I wrote about it (several times) before.

We should have had a loan striker in November- before we lost those 16 points.

£1.5m - £2m for him

or £500k for Lee, a Japan international who looks to have so much more about him (ok, granted....it's on youtube)

The prices in this country are obscene though, which is why I always felt we'd look abroad. You get much more value for your money, and there are real gems out there if your scouting is good enough to find them (which I believe ours is these days)

I'd go for Jut to be honest. Delgado and De Ridder looked world class on their Youtubes...

My point is why do you think that he can do Lamberts job?

And why do you think him doing Lamberts job is better than a tweak to the system with Barnard in?

LJ is nowhere near the player that Lambert is.

Hi there Dibden Purlieu Saints.. remember posting this on 24th November?

Don't think any of us thought we would get anyone BETTER than Ricky, but Barnard was never going to get anywhere near fit, and now we are without Lambert for 3 games...seems like NOT loaning "someone " (as cover) was a bad oversight.

At least the " someone " could have played themselves in ..now we have 5 days to find another striker ...

You don't need a crystal ball to know that Sod's Law applies in all walks of life.

Lambert has an excellent injury-free record over the years, and until yesterday, a good disciplinary one, too ..but **** still happens.

#SaintsFC have no interest in Maynard and Sharp, they are moving closer to signing Lukas Jutkiewicz

Itkagent1962 ...

I'm expecting a renewed bid from Southampton for striker Lukas Jutkiewicz after this weekends game. Expect #LCFC to in for him too.

Are we back in for Jutkiewicz according to tweets on Twitter? We're at the right place today to corner him for a chat!! Could even offer him a lift back on the bus...

Wrong I said 'if' twice which makes my point quite clear i believe.

No, you said people seem to think he is leaving.

I will bare my arse on the town hill steps if he does.

Find me other people on here that think he will leave.

You are a ***t and i am genuinely worried that you teach kids

Ah yes, I had forgotten about Sam lol!!! what about him??

I think my post was pretty self explanatory but...

Sam Vokes is a Southampton fan. Every window we get people saying we should sign him up, regardless of current form or ability. I'm surprised we've come this far, a whopping seven days into the window, and we've not had similar calls.

I think some of you are overreacting to the whole 'he supports saints' thing.

He is a young striker, strong, tall and powerful. Apart from Lambert, we dont have this type of player in the squad.

People arent saying sign him because he is a saints fan, that is just a bonus.

In my opinion, he is one of the only strikers that has caused Hooiveld and Fonte real problems as he brushed them aside with his strength so easily.

SSN reporting that Craid David is now training with the first team as Adkins looks to add some creativity. A free agent, so no transfer fee - plus he's a Southampton lad!

What you've just said there is exactly what I'm talking about. It is not a 'bonus', it shouldn't matter at all!

Well teams used to always be full of local lads.

I supposed the way Joel Ward busts a gut for Portsmouth is nothing to do with the fact he is a local boy.

Nobody is saying it matters whether your a fan or not but if you are then your likely to feel the passion the fans feel.

I know I would.

Maybe Joel Ward's team mates don't try hard enough, if he's setting the benchmark.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice idea, as is a team made up only of Englishmen, but I'd rather have the best possible players featuring for us than a team of local lads or whatever. Messi busts a gut for Barcelona, but he's about as Catalonian as I am.

Which brings me back to Lukas - I really don't believe he's the best option we've got. The club are looking outside the Championship for talent and it's done us no harm yet. I hope they continue to do so. As long as they do that, there are a higher number of options and there's going to be better quality too.

not sure what game you were watching at the Ricoh, but I didn't see him giving either centre back many problems at all. He dropped deep and collected the ball then sliced a few shots from range when he perhaps should have showed more composure and he scored unchallenged from a corner. But brushing them aside? Really?

If you want a striker that caused our centre backs problems then Miller at Forest is your man, he bullied our two CBs.

I thought Ishmael Miller was a shadow of the player he used to be a couple of years ago - and apart from throwing his weight around a bit in the first 10 minutes or so didn't trouble our centrebacks at all as they out fought and out thought him

Best physical centre forward I've seen this season is easily darius henderson (millwall). Made Fonte look very ordinary and was unplayable at times. Saying that we didn't have Jos then. More generally, Chopra, Austin and Miller (Cardiff) were all decent.
