Lambert is the only player we have no cover for so it would make sense in that way. The position we are in we might as well take a few risks because the potential reward is huge.

 

If he plays 10 games before end of the season and scores 3 or 4 big goals then that arguably is worth 3m if it gets us promoted.

Have to say other than highlights, I have never seen the lad play..

 

Apprecviate he has an eye for goal but does he have pace? whats his link up play like ? Does he have a decent football brain ?

He's the type of guy we bring on when Lambert reached his hat trick Saturday as he needs a rest.

Love the thought of having a home grown lad in the dressing room on dec 18th headbutting walls/ punching doors/ spitting on their crest whenever he sees it etc before the game screaming his hatred of the skates as a final reminder of how big a game it is.

Yeah of course because that would be really clever of any of our players ..... getting sent off just to appease fans that want to see opposition players hurt! The Ben Thatcher incident was one of the worst ever seen on a football pitch in the professional game and I would not wish it on any player regardless of who they play for.

 

I really don't get the love-in our fans have about signing players because they are "fans" and will apparently run through brick walls for Saints. I really don't think it will matter a jot when it comes to how they play for the side as they will play according to how NA wants them to play and how they are capable of playing. At the end of the day, if the lad will improve us or provide well above average cover for our strikers then get him in, otherwise don't bother regardless of his allegience.

Completely confident of beating them with 10 men, especially with their best player (name escapes me, do they have 1?) unconscious and doing a "Cantona" on a mouthy skate on the way off the pitch would genuinely make up for my last few visits - I still have nightmares over that road to Amarillo song!

One senses that while Rodriguez is perhaps NA's number 1 choice, his asking price and certain reluctance to move South is requiring us to look at other options, and that means Jutkiewicz..

 

I too think that Maynard will remain a target come January.

A lot of money for an average player imho. If we are looking to the Premiership I would hope and think we'd need much better players than him as a back up.

 

Can you name one that you think is realistic and in our price range?

A lot of people decried Joos as worse than average....including me....players can improve in the right environment.

This is exactly right. The only player we have no like for like (in style of play) cover for is Lambert. Lose Lambert and we lose more than just a great player, but also the way we would need to approach a game.

I'm not saying NA does not have a plan B, but easier if plan A is still an option due to a similar backup being available.

Considering that Maynard hasn't signed a new contract I think 3m will get him now. Apart from that I think Barnard is a better player and would do more of a job. Or look abroad.

Can't see it really but can see us buying Maynard who IMO has an awfull lot of potential and would fit in well with our team and style of play. It would create intense competition for second striker too.

People underestimate our reliance on and amount of joy we get from the direct, diagonal ball to Lambert on the wing or at the far post. Its been especially useful away from home when we've been crowded out in midfield.

 

While I have a few doubts over LJ's technique, he would fit this style of play perfectly; indeed, there's a good case for playing two big men together. If there's one problem with the direct, diagonal ball, its that it sometimes takes strikers out of dangerous positions i.e. in the middle to get on the end of crosses.

it was only a guess on my part when I started the thread #1 ... but there did seem to be a number of comments about him earlier in the year.

Maybe scoring against us was enough to tip the balance and I guess we don't have to ask if he'd be committed to playing for us, either. Seems like he and his family are already fans.

 

Perhaps the only ironic bit is paying out several million for a player who cost nothing in the first place and went through our own Academy.

Which bright spark of a manager OK'd his departure I wonder?

Absolutely, he's unplayable and it works a treat. For all the boll*cks about us playing like Barcelona, that diagonal ball which is direct but not a hoof is critical to the way we set up. If someone like LJ could offer -either alone or in combination with Lambert (perhaps from the other wing), it would be money well spent.

 

You're right about midfielders - think Lallana probably has to take more responsibility than Chaplow as Lambert tends to pull off more to his side.

He went to great lengths to shakes hands with every Saints player and Adkins at the end of the game a few weeks ago. [b']He is a real handful in the air[/b], so I suppose he can be insurance for a Lambert injury.

 

 

...not such a bad thing, eh ?

I recall that the "young " Kevin Davies (and James Beattie for that matter) put themselves about quite a lot in the beginning of their Saints' careers, and then

developed into very useful strikers . Maybe a bit of good coaching ...might make the difference ?

We have gone more direct because the opposition are closing us down further up the park to stop us playing football. Thats why when we score 1 goal we look like scoring 5 because they have to change their defensive 'stop us playing' tactics..................

 

From what I saw at Cov - i think he is worth a punt, but £3m seems way over the odds. My hunch is that either Maynard or Jay Rod will join us in January.

Be very surprised ..seems like agent drumming up a bidding war to me. Its just not the way we do things now and am sure LJ was told to keep this quiet if it was a goer.

As for the academy many players develop later and are released before showing any potential. I don't think we have done too bad. Ill bet nearly every club has released players only for them to progress elsewhere.

Of course he qualifies for England (though hardly likely to be selected) having been born In So'ton, but also for Poland via his grandfather AND (wait for it )...Republic of Ireland via... his grandmother

 

I thought that was par for the course..surely almost every other player has an Irish grandmother ..don't they ?

He wants to come here. But i'm not sure saints are interested, and they certainly haven't bid 3 million for him. Not sure where this story has come from, but the chances are it's Coventry/Juke's agent trying to get a bidding war going. They need the money and see Juke as there most saleable asset. It makes sense to whore him out and try and get Boro or someone else to up their bid. Ultimately though, if saints want him, saints will get him.

I qualify for Ireland through my grandmother, Sweden through my other grandmother, Scotland through my grandfather and England through my other grandfather. Of course, I doubt i'll be representing any of them anytime soon - except Scotland perhaps.
