Window Cleaner Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Not to mention we're 12 points clear of 7th. There are teams who are a couple (or 4) of games shy though.
Ohio Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 We are top of the division. However, I feel somehow compelled to talk about the language spoken in South America? Bull****! We are top of the league!!!!
Jimmy_D Posted 5 November, 2011 Author Posted 5 November, 2011 There are teams who are a couple (or 4) of games shy though. True. Birmingham are bound to have trouble with fixture congestion. Is it just me or has Adkins started to lose his voice today?
VectisSaint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 36 points already, about half of what we'd need for a play-off place. Reckon we're nearly safe from relegation
Toomer Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Just had a call from a mate who went, very good first half, went to sleep start of the 2nd half and let them back in it but had the bottle to step it up 4th quarter to win it at ease.
Window Cleaner Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 We are top of the division. However, I feel somehow compelled to talk about the language spoken in South America? Bull****! We are top of the league!!!! In fact it's quite interesting, apparently Alexander VI just took a compass and arbitrarily divided South America into Portuguese and Spanish sovereignty. You know the one who was a Borgia.
corsacar saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Sounds like we had to win the game twice. However to score 4 away from home and lead the table by 5 points going into the international break is absolutely magnificent.
Ohio Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 In fact it's quite interesting, apparently Alexander VI just took a compass and arbitrarily divided South America into Portuguese and Spanish sovereignty. You know the one who was a Borgia. Was he a Saints supporter? If not, I think his opinions are moot.
Viking Warrior Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Solent back on saints player . Not sure what went on there . May be they were letting the coventry fans sing their hearts out, More like the sounds of silence
Viking Warrior Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Ohio His younger brother was a saints fan Alexander V11
Window Cleaner Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Was he a Saints supporter? If not, I think his opinions are moot. Nah, a Catalan thus a Barcelona supporter,****ged a lot of women for a Pope though, not a bad lad in all.
Ohio Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Solent back on saints player . Not sure what went on there . May be they were letting the coventry fans sing their hearts out, More like the sounds of silence Thanks for the heads up!! I was spending the down time listening to the coventry radio.......It was EXACTLY like listening to saints radio a few years ago!!
scotty Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Just in from work, was on a ship so couldnt get commentary. Abso-f*cking-lutely top result, thats made my weekend. I kept thinking we were due a defeat, especially after that last ten minutes against posh, and we pull this out the bag!! Brilliant stuff , looking forward to the highlights later...
Ohio Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Well done Guly for being involved in just about every saints goal recently. I think that by playing Guly in his own preferred position we have found a new resource. Saints have been more exciting since he has been pushed more up front
Window Cleaner Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 I think that by playing Guly in his own preferred position we have found a new resource. Saints have been more exciting since he has been pushed more up front It also lets us utilise the energy of Chaplow,in a role where his defensive shortcomings aren't a handicap, for the 60 minutes that he lasts. However we have to be careful over the period when Chappy's battery is beginning to go flat, leaves us open down the right.
pedg Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 True. Birmingham are bound to have trouble with fixture congestion. plus I believe I heard in the commentary of their europa match say that they are likely to have to sell some players in the January window. So the longer they stay in europe the better as then most of the fixtures they need to catch up on will be played after the transfer window.
Chap in the Chapel Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 On the way back from the game. If ever a match showed how momentum is important it was this one. We totally controlled the first half with Coventry only faintly competitive for a 10 minute spell before we went in front. They had absolutely no answer to our possession football and looked one-dimensional. In the second half they went a lot more direct and gave us a lot of trouble, but if they hadn't scored early we would have won easily. They had something to bite on after that and at 2-2 we looked wobbly. It was a shocker of an equalizer as well. However, Adkins made a great sub, sending on Hammond for Chaplow, and, as usual when Hammond's on the pitch, we got a lot tougher to play against. As soon as we went back in front we were always going to win. Man of the match was Guly though. His movement was superb and he looked a constant threat. He got a well deserved goal from a great cross from Fox. No-one was really off their game today, although a few faded in the second half. Lallana will be fully fit after the break, I reckon. Onwards though - a deserved win in the end and a great day to end the away winless run.
sfc4prem Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Disappointing that we fell asleep and dropped a few gears, allowing a team low on confidence back into it with poor defending, but then we woke up again and put the game to bed. If we kept concentration, weren't complacent, and performed how we did in the 1st half, i reckon we would've won this at a canter.
eelpie Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Just had a call from a mate who went, very good first half, went to sleep start of the 2nd half and let them back in it but had the bottle to step it up 4th quarter to win it at ease. He fell asleep during a Saints match? Must have been the bottle before the match
CWD Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 (edited) From a Coventry forum: Southampton who are currently the best side in the league did you see them consistently knocking the ball around between there centre halves? Must have been about 25 times in the first half one of the Southampton CB have pinged a 60 yard ball out to Fox or straight to the forwards man chest, that is not hoofball or ugly football that is a quality ball and a long way away from what we saw under Boothroyd. Then Southampton can play there football deep in our half. Also another thing about Southampton's play was the number of players they got forward, every time Southampton had an attack they had 4-5 players bombing forward as well as full backs. We don't do this. I think Southampton had a perfect balance between long/short ball and a good balance with committing players forward and not getting caught out on the counter attack. Sounds good. EDIT: Just seen that they also have a thread dedicated purely to Fox's cross for the second goal! Edited 5 November, 2011 by CWD
SO16_Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Just watching the Liebherr World Championships of Table Tennis on EuroSport. WIFM!
BlakeySFC Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 I was absolutely raging when they levelled it up, letting a 2-0 lead slip wherever you go to and whoever you're playing is ridiculous. But we managed to show some character and put the game to bed, as we should have done when we were 2-0 up.
Mattio Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 what does wifm mean? I've never really thoughtabout it...

To be fair, anyone two nil down to us at the moment is going to throw the kitchen sink and try to salvage something. Posh did it tuesday night and looked like they might just snatch a point. Its those times you want to see us walk away with the points, we arent going to cruise every game.

Cascadia Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Great result, especially going into the international break. So many wins!!! I still can't used to all this positivity... COYR!!
The Kraken Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Just had a quick flick through the match thread on Coventry's forum, the very last post was very flattering of us. As much as the results are amazing at the moment, the fact we're doing it in such a pleasing footballing style is completely unprecedented for us as a club in recent years, and makes you feel very proud to be a fan right now. EDIT: I'm an idiot and don't read threads properly.....
Ohio Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 I feel kinda bad for Cov. In times past we were both the long time hangers on in the top flight. We were both the teams that defied the odds and stayed in the mix, no matter what. I regard them as a sort of sister club in terms of spirit and determination.

That, and you have to feel sorry for them that they haven't finished in the top 6 of their league in any of the past 40 seasons. That is thoroughly depressing.
alpine_saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Was out all afternoon but followed the score by harassing my son about checking on his phone. Did NA change something after their second goal to re-establish our superiority over them ?

The Kraken Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 What is it with this consistent craving for the approval of the opposing fans that some of our contributors have fallen into ? I don't see anything wrong with getting a view from the other side for a game; especially if you can't make it to the game. It's part of getting the bigger picture; Radio Solent is bound to be skewed towards a Saints perspective. Also, I've never heard Saints being talked about like this by neutrals for a very long time. So excuse me if I actually want to enjoy the moment and revel in it, rather than let it pass me by and instead pontificate on when it might all fall apart.

Jimmy_D Posted 5 November, 2011 Author Posted 5 November, 2011 Don't know about anyone else, but I always look for opposition views of the game. It's a habit I picked up during history lessons, to always try and get more than one perspective, especially if I haven't seen it first hand.
The Kraken Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Sounds more like some sort of in-bred insecurity complex to me. Does it? Wow. But then you do seem rather odd and contrary, so you carry on and I'll do the same.
jamesfp1 Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Sounds more like some sort of in-bred insecurity complex to me. Just sounds like you being a **** for no reason.
Sheaf Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Sounds more like some sort of in-bred insecurity complex to me. Well you would see it like that wouldn't you Alps, due to your glass-half-empty outlook which ensures you only look for the negative aspect of anything. I don't see anything wrong with looking to see what other, neutral fans are saying about us either. Football fans are by definition extremely biased towards their own team so it is always very difficult to objectively analyse a match involving your own team, so finding out what people without blinkers have to say about our team really helps to gauge exactly how well we are actually doing. But no, clearly I and the Kraken are wrong. It's just an in-bred insecurity complex isn't it. Seriously Alps, have you learned nothing from what Adkins has instilled in this team? Everything we have achieved so far under his stewardship has resulted from the positive outlook and sheer self-belief that so evidently surrounds the whole club right now. Couldn't you try, just for once in your life, to adopt that for yourself and look for the positive in things instead of constantly being pessimistic about everything?
Minty Posted 5 November, 2011 Posted 5 November, 2011 Jos Hooiveld on Twitter: Good victory today, made it unnecessary hard for ourselves. Tottally lost my man first corner, gutted about that. Then a terrible lucky goal But thank god we kept our minds on the prize and got the well deserved 3 points today, first half was amazing! Great goal @stief87 @Rchap04 Almost burried my 4th in the back of the net though, just couldn't get it down enough. Competition spilled points too! Nice. @daveevans83 always staying critical mate, always points to improve. But for the rest I was very pleased with my performance tonight. James Ward-Prowse on Twitter: we are Southampton, we're TOP OF THE LEAGUE!! #SaintsFC
