Daren W Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Admittedly only 2 points ahead of Man Utd who have a game in hand but a staggering 6 points clear of Chelsea... Well done Alan Pardew I say...
farawaysaint Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 I do admit to also gaping at the table after the game, to everyone who said you couldn't break into the CL spots without spending billions? Er I give you Newcastle united run by one of the tightest gits in the country.
sambosa75 Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Judge it at the end of the season. He's done well but they've used up some good fixtures. Talking about champion's league is like Blackpool talking about it this time last year, or Hull the year before. They've signed a lot of foreign players, and without wanting to generalise too much, there's a good chance some of their players could lose form during the long, cold winter months. I'd put them at mid-table anyway, which is still a good job. It's hard to judge though, as there are so many awful teams in that league. Watched the game today and the quality overall was simply appalling. Too many nervous players, too much pressure and often too negative. Really hope Saints can get up there and take some of these teams apart. I don't think it's impossible for any team to get mid-table really given the utter ****eness of those below. Sort of agree with what you are saying but Newcastle won today without Tiote and for 70 minutes without Cabaye, who for me, looks absolutely world class. They can only beat who is put in front of them and are making a pretty damn good fist of it. Even if they lose their next 2 games against Man Utd and City away, they'll still be in the mix. The key is beating teams like Everton and Stoke as they have done in their last 2 games. If they can win those and only lose to the likes of Utd, City and Chelsea they will be in the top 6 come the end of the season.
saint lard Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Pardew has turned them around, put them on a level footing, playing with belief and rebuilt them into a competative force without spending squillions. He is getting the players to play at 110% week in week out,and fulfill their potential. Just like he did with us. Adkins is carrying on, where Pardew left off. Worked out well in the end. It did, although I feel Adkins is more tactically astute than Pardew.
SuperMikey Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 The key is that most of their team have been playing together for quite a few years now, it's the kind of thing that we're seeing with our squad. Teams that go up and buy a lot of players are often disjointed, Newcastle have added quality players in key positions and it seems to be working for now. Give it until January to see how they will really do this season, they haven't got the strength in depth that teams like Man Utd, Chelsea etc have. Turkish Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 that'll be the lack of plan B Pardew has during games that we were told about on here coming home to roost.

Or the fact that he left? If you mean results then you are very much mistaken.

That he departed after clearly falling out with his superiors.
