Matthew Le God Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 (edited) Obviously not "irrelevant". If we weren't in administration, the Liebherr's would not have bought us. We were available with stadium at an absolute steal of a price. Leibherr wasn't making anyone "offers they couldn't refuse" he bought us at the lowest price the administrators/Aviva had to take. Completely different. It is irrelevant, because Coventry don't have much in the way of assets. They don't have a stadium, they are renting the Ricoh Arena and have recently been forced into remortgaging their training ground. Nor do they have the academy setup Saints do. They would have been a relatively cheap buy even when compared to what Liebherr paid for Saints. Edited 5 November, 2011 by Matthew Le God
whelk Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 why the fck does anyone care what somebody posts? we have enough idiots of our own here and responding to another teams forum makes you look sad. do you expect adulation for saints up and down the country? and we aren't needy we don't need praise. Man up!

bender Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Also we owned our stadium, have one of the most productive youth set ups, great training facilities and a good loyal support, none of which coventry have! This is the difference. I knew us going into admin would be a good thing. Any investor would see a club with a ground and facilities already paid off and it was obvious we would be saved and go on from there. Coventry however dont own theirs. Looking at the link below, you sense just a part of it is being CFC's home. It's a community facility. http://www.ricoharena.com/

david in sweden Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Another sh*te club with no fans. My local park game probably has more atmosphere than the Ricoh. .....if that attitude transfers itself to the team ..no wonder they are at the bottom of the table... Daren W Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Too simplistic statement by far. But he does nail one point. ML DID get us on the cheap. The club was touted around by many people (of widely differing levels of experience ) The price being asked was in the region of the Shareholder Equity value which was resolutely around the 32mil mark. He also DID get the debts "significantly reduced". Prior to admin adding those debts onto the Share Value made the deal to buy Saints much more expensive. However it has been the decision making SINCE that period that has determined our path. It was a hell of a stroke of luck for us, and if you look at other clubs that have gone into admin only a small few have been so lucky or have got back to a competitive level. Go pop get relegated and get a muppet in. Yeah that's really working for poopey isn't it. Stupid & risky This.... Amazing how some fans of other clubs seem to think we're top by luck and money... ffs

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 SISU never nearly bought us, it was a ploy to get the price down at Cov... The issue that Cov will have if they go into admin is that they don't own their ground.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 well yeah, granted. But dosh can't actually manage a team to the top....As Leicester are doing a very good job of demonstrating !!
St Jim Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 TBF they could have a much larger fanbase given some success. Years of dross has pretty much eroded theirs much like it did with our's, prior to administration. I'm not so sure, during the late 90's (in their epl days) I was living in Cov & dating a chick who was from a family of Cov fans & even then the club were giving away tickets just to get crowds (often not getting close to capacity) . I also used to recall as a nipper seeing them on telly with sh17 loads of empty seats so can only deduce that they've always had carp support and always will. Legod Third Coming Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 errrr Coventry WERE available around a similar time to when Marcus got involved. SISU nearly bought us and then turned their attentions to Coventry - IIRC. SISU under Ray Ransom bought Coventry in 2007. Markus bought us out of administration in 2009. SISU has sniffed around when Lowe/Wilde/Crouch were looking for investment from memory but those who think somehow this was a choice for Markus and Nicola between us and Coventry are mistaken. Yes, two years earlier Markus might have bought Coventry - and the point remains, we are bloody lucky that either SISU did not buy us and/or Markus did not buy Coventry. And we shouldn't forget it, or take the p*** out of other clubs who find themselves in a position that we could easily have been in.
sperm_john Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 our fans have no more bearing on how well the club does than their fans do ...and by that logic, their fans are pretty sh1t
Legod Third Coming Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 This.... Amazing how some fans of other clubs seem to think we're top by luck and money... ffs Be a realist. We would not be top if we didn't have the money. In case you need a reminder: Lambert - £1m Fonte - £1m I could go on. Money alone does not guarantee success. But I'd love to know how you feel Adkins would be doing with a back four of: Lloyd James Ollie Lancashire Matt Mills Jo Mills ??
Cabrone Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 Feel a bit sorry for the Cov fans, for 44 years now they have had literally nothing to get excited about - just a slow and painful decline. They spent 34 years in the top flight and apart from a cup win in 87 and a semi revival for a year or two after did diddly squat. Then they got relegated and instead of mounting a promotion push the have just spent 10 years more on their downward trajectory. I think if I was a Cov fan I'd quietly be hoping for relegation and admin just to shake my comatose club up. We've been to hell and back but at least it wasn't boring. Tedium is a club killer. Fan The Flames Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 (edited) There is no way he would have dropped a league to manage us if we were skint. I think he probably would, even when we were skint we would have been more attractive than S****horpe, our set up would have be better and and the cash available wouldn't have been much different. Yeah, but they were in the top flight for a longer period than us (always annoyed me that we couldn't beat their record after they got relegated), cup win in 87 - that's massive, and massively more recent than ours, and I have a feeling they got 1 or more league cup wins as well. It only seems tedious from the outside, looking at our record 1976-2010 - tedium is the word, from the inside it has been a roller coaster of exitement, and I'm sure Cov fans feel the same way about their team (though their strip is crap)

Season after season after season of mid table tedium in the Championship. A season in League one would be preferable to eons and eons in total mediocrity. Lazlo78 Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 I started following Saints in the early 90's, so I feel strangely connected to Coventry - they seemed to be our twin club at the time enduring the same annual survival battle at the foot of the league table, surviving season after season. Now our ways have been parted for a while, but it's still something special for me to see Saints - Coventry on the fixture list. Sad I know... sir woody Posted 5 November, 2011 Share Posted 5 November, 2011 "Saothampton are not riding high because of loyal fans or the manager............ it is for one reason only ............... it is because who bought the club on the cheap when they were in big **** , so maybe the same could happen to us and admin and being relegated might just be a blessing in disguise" Seriously, how bitter and twisted and moronic are some people? http://www.skybluestalk.co.uk/threads/12382-Article-on-SISU-and-Cov-from-a-Southampton-view What an absolute COCK !! - I hope they get relegated and go into administration, soon ! sammysaint Posted 6 November, 2011 Share Posted 6 November, 2011 I thought we still owed a few mill on the stadium before ML brought us ? Yes he did invest a lot for league one standards but we hardly spent any money compared to our income this summer. Anyways we shouldnt really care what other fans say about us, there is a lot of jealousy these days, most supporters now appreciate seeing a good team and a team with respectful fans players and club as a whole hence why teams like barca are loved despite there success, but there is always going to be bitter fans, lets just keep getting points meaning a top 6 finish is likely and try and finish top 2 in the style we are.
