a good season to get promoted...

well, of course we can say that ANY season is a good season to get promotion but looking at some of the " tame " opposition we've met so far, it seems that those CCC teams who (a) don't have big money problems (no funds /big debts), or (b) aren't living upto expectations; Brighton, Peterboro, Leeds, Ipswich amongst others)or © have dumped / lost a manager already; Pomp*ey, Leicester, Bristol C. means that the really serious opposition is much less than anyone might have expected.

Obviously, we have to hold our present excellent form in order to go up, but looking UPWARDS to the Premiership ..we see that the three Lancashire clubs at the bottom (Bolton, Blackburn and Wigan) aren't going to be a walk-over despite being in the "drop-zone ", and would surely be favourites for a quick return.

Getting promoted this season maybe a " God send ", as I'd not want to also compete against those three for a promotion place next season, - should they all be relegated.

If those three go down, they will all be a mess next season.

well we could hope....they might not be the worst in the Prem. even though results haven't gone their way.

Norwich seem to be holding their own at present and I'm surprised that Swansea have got the results they have, but I think QPR will struggle.

Saints spent at least half of their 27 seasons fighting to stay above the drop zone, TBH I'm surprised that Wolves survived and that Fulham and Sunderland have stayed up. Everton always seem to pull themselves clear by Easter. In most seasons, at least one of the promoted sides comes straight back down but we can see that the Prem. standard - even at the bottom end - is much better than those who are at the top of CCC.

If (still a big if) we go up, we need big teams to go down. We need the best chance to stay up the following season. Therefore it would be good if Blackburn go down as they have money to spend. If Wigan stay up, it's very likely they'll be strugglers again next season, so we want them to be there. Same with Wolves and Swansea. Ideally it would benifit us if teams like Fulham, Everton and Sunderland go down and smaller teams come up with us. Meaning we have a better opportunity to stay up.

As Cortese has mentioned a few times, the intention isn't to merely "stay up" in the Premier League. He intends for Saints to compete towards the top of the league and would be fully aware of the budgets required to do that.

If we go up, I will be happy for survival in the first season. I don't see us spending silly amounts as Cortese has also said he wants it to be sustainable

Over the summer there was an absolute avalanche of contributors to this forum saying how this season's Championship was infinitely harder than last seasons because of the strength of the relegated clubs, and because of Brighton coming up too, and Leicester having loads of money etc etc etc etc. And here we are, head and shoulders the best team in it.

Every season is all much of a muchness in all honesty. I don't think any of us needed reminding that we managed to get relegated from the prem bottom of the table with a team managed by Bryan Robson snivelled to 34 points or something. The "standard of the league this/next season" is a complete misnomer. You've just got to do what you've got to do.

We've a good a chance as any of getting promoted this season. If we can maintain our form, and the sprinkling of good luck we've enjoyed with regards to the other contenders, over the next three months then we will probably be promoted automatically. As regards to next season if we are in the Prem then money will need to be spent for us to achieve mid table mediocrity.

"a good season to get promoted" is any season. You are up near the top and loving every minute.

If you get relegated the next season then so what? It's better to have loved & lost than spent your whole life w#nking.
