Does anyone know if these stats are these published anywhere or is from Pro-zone or similar?

Really? it seemed like quite a few went astray. Still there's no arguing that we pass the ball around very nicely these days when we're allowed/want to.

The passing stats are good as long as they lead to goals.

When playing a team with 10 men in particular, passing amongst yourselves will tire them out quicker. All the time we have the ball, they are chasing it. It is what Pep Guardiola preaches, and it works for them.

Not necessarily true. It's all about possession of the football. Making the opponents chase, pulling them out of position and also meaning they can't build any momentum themselves. Everybody was purring after Connolly's goal on Saturday because he finished a 25 pass move but there were plenty around me moaning that we kept passing backwards and sideways during the move.

Thank goodness we have some people who understand football. All the great Liverpool sides from Shankly onwards had a high pass completion rate, passed the ball across the back 4/5 and wore the opposition down. The technical term was pass and move. Not very dificult really.

Quite.

A good number of our games at home in the record-breaking run have followed the same pattern: start brightly and take the lead; suffer a bit of pressure as the opposition dig their heels in; settle down again and play possession football; score another (or two) late on after holding the ball for 20 minutes.

It works. How are your opponents going to score if they don't have the ball? I think the main difference with away games is that we've not had the luxury of as many opportunities to control the game at the pace we like.

as several of the experts around me always shout, why can't we just kick the ball up the field when we are pressured - what could go wrong?

I recall it worked so well when we gave the ball back to Everton that time and let them have one last attack...

So more big aimless kicks and less of this fussy ball retention please - we might give a goal or two away this season through playing it around.

And score about 100.

The problem is it doesn't always make for great viewing tuesday against posh was a quite boring to watch. Passing while moving forward with intent and purpose like we did against boro is much more exciting.

The average Championship team makes 312 passes a game, Arsenal make 428 and Swansea made 98 more at 526 last season. Further still, Swansea's record of 756 in one match was not bettered by any team of the 92 in the Football League last season.

http://www.soccerstats.com/team.asp?league=england2&teamid=5 regarding stats, that's the best that appears for Southampton, so I can find.

It is nice to see in a game that I don't think we played particularly well in, against Peterborough, we still made nearly 200 more passes than the league average and more than Arsenal's average. I'd like to know what our highest pass count under Adkins is compared to Swansea's high of 756.
