Lighthouse Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 Someone started singing "Na na na ne hey hey hey Steve De Ridder" to the tune of that Bananarama song (He Hey Goodbye). Didn't really catch on, although it sounded alright.
Scummer Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 I quite like: His name's De Ridder he's the Knight To The Rhythm Of The Night by Corona. De Ridder is Dutch for the Knight apparently. Wes Tender Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 At first I thought it was just a bit of fun for a one off dull game but after these threads today I'm going to be doing my best to make sure it REALLY catches on. In a similar vein I have recently made an extra effort to shout "BARMY ARMY" as loud as possible during the red and white chant. Me too. It'll be fun baiting the dullards who have had the sense of humour bypass and nice to imagine them sat there fuming every time a players name is chanted. Mind you, I'll worry what the rival fans will make of us. NOT
Mark Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 It was so bad that I'm happy to post this twice!!!!! I thought "Steeeeeeeve" was cringetastic, but then we hit new levels with "Dan, Jose, Richard". As well as being dinlotastic I also thought it looked as though it was putting him off his game. This. Our club is a mong magnet.

shurlock Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner". That is cringeworthy - like the fratellis, kings of leon etc, a derivative band that typifies everything that is soulless about current football. No wonder a Kasabian track was chosen as theme song for the Premiership.
Golden Balls Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 (edited) My god, the bed wetting on here at times is hilarious! It was a dull, training match sort of game. It lifted the atmosphere and mood for 5-6 minutes and didn't catch on for much longer than that. Big deal! Some of you lot get so worked up about minor things. I never used to chant the Cortese song as I thought it was pretty pants, but seeing how stressed people get with it I started singing it loud and proud. Knowing there were a few fans with smoke coming out of ther ears in rage just becuase they don't like a chant Bless. Golden Balls Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 Steve De Ridder Steve Steve De Ridder He's the king Out on the wing ? I like this tune for a chant. However I think the "he's a king..." part wont catch on. Need to keep it simple to get it going. Just stick with the "Steve De Ridder, Steve Steve De Ridder" and repeat. No wonder a Kasabian track was chosen as theme song for the Premiership. Yep. Problem is I've found a lot of football fans are happy to listen to that sort of indie landfill tripe. Christ, a while back people we're even suggesting we sang 'rudi, rudi, rudi, rudi' to the tune of Ruby by the thankfully forgotten kings of pub rock the Kaiser Chiefs. krissyboy31 Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 It actually brightened the atmosphere on the radio. Macey_J2 Posted 2 November, 2011 Share Posted 2 November, 2011 (edited) This is the worst chant i've heard from saints fans. I genuinely thought they'd given a block of tickets to local schools for mentally disabled children when i heard "steeeeeeeeeeeeve" every time De Ridder got the ball. It seemed to catch him off guard judging by his poor touch when it happened. It doesn't sound good and all personal chants are supposed to have an instantly positive, encouraging feeling to them. This really didn't. It seemed like our fans were taking the **** out of our own player. Someone MUST be able to think of a good chant for him, and not one for every time he gets the ball. We need to ask him if he likes it. If he does, the morons can continue to be tickled by it, and if he doesn't, they need to stop chanting it every time he touches the ball. The9 Posted 3 November, 2011 Share Posted 3 November, 2011 (edited) Apparently it's because the bouncer on Jerry Springer is called Steve and the audience chant it like that when he is called out on stage. Seems very random to me, but was quite funny. That may be the reason they gave, but when *I* started doing this at Cardiff (and Reading) away it was because I was ripping off Fulham's near ten year-old "Steed" chant in homage to Steed Malbranque. You can hear it here at about 30 seconds : and here as he scores against the Skates : Evidently I am a cockwomble, but blame the mongs around us at those two games who appropriated it from us for it actually taking off, because I had nothing to do with it on Tuesday night. As it happens, I think it's unique and entertaining, whilst the whole "everyone's first name" got boring after about 5 minutes, and cringeworthy by 10. FWIW, we have also been doing an "Alan" and "Steve" thing based on after attending V Festival where the f'ckers were yelling it out all day and all night as part of some in-joke. I now hate it, and it's NOT linked to the Steeeeeeve thing, but that won't stop Mornington Crescent. Edited 3 November, 2011 by The9

Tokyo-Saint Posted 3 November, 2011 Share Posted 3 November, 2011 How about: Ooooo Steve de Ridder He’s from Belgium, He's different class Has mayo on his chips but when he runs he’s f*cking fast And when he gets the ball he’ll put your left back on his arse Oooooo Steve de Ridder Not 100% sure about different but it has to be something with 2 syllables to fit the tune. There is a better version of the tune here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axfqvsP9jB0 This was suggested ages ago but never took off: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31444-Song-for-De-Ridder/page2&highlight=balotelli+steve Make it happen.
