Gambol2K9 Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Cos it made are fans sound like a group of little jessies! And that upsets you why?
Stu Man Do Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'll give it a possible shout ... to the song Stand and Deliver Steeeeeve De Ridderrr He'll f-in take the **** Dum de dum de dum Theres a start feel free to ignore but its can't be any worse than our main chant for him being his first name!
Lighthouse Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Someone started singing "Na na na ne hey hey hey Steve De Ridder" to the tune of that Bananarama song (He Hey Goodbye). Didn't really catch on, although it sounded alright.
Scummer Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I quite like: His name's De Ridder he's the Knight To The Rhythm Of The Night by Corona. De Ridder is Dutch for the Knight apparently. Need a bit more 90's dance music in the stands.
The Kraken Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner".
Appy Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner". Great shout
Wes Tender Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 At first I thought it was just a bit of fun for a one off dull game but after these threads today I'm going to be doing my best to make sure it REALLY catches on. In a similar vein I have recently made an extra effort to shout "BARMY ARMY" as loud as possible during the red and white chant. Me too. It'll be fun baiting the dullards who have had the sense of humour bypass and nice to imagine them sat there fuming every time a players name is chanted. Mind you, I'll worry what the rival fans will make of us. NOT
Mark Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 It was so bad that I'm happy to post this twice!!!!! I thought "Steeeeeeeve" was cringetastic, but then we hit new levels with "Dan, Jose, Richard". As well as being dinlotastic I also thought it looked as though it was putting him off his game. This. Our club is a mong magnet.
Turkish Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner". Steve De Ridder, Steve, Steve De Ridder He's from Belgium and a winger
SuperMikey Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner". Steve De Ridder Steve Steve De Ridder He's the king Out on the wing ?
shurlock Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Me too. It'll be fun baiting the dullards who have had the sense of humour bypass and nice to imagine them sat there fuming every time a players name is chanted. Mind you, I'll worry what the rival fans will make of us. NOT Can't wait to give it the big'un at Coventry. Schteeeevee.
shurlock Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner". That is cringeworthy - like the fratellis, kings of leon etc, a derivative band that typifies everything that is soulless about current football. No wonder a Kasabian track was chosen as theme song for the Premiership.
Golden Balls Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 (edited) My god, the bed wetting on here at times is hilarious! It was a dull, training match sort of game. It lifted the atmosphere and mood for 5-6 minutes and didn't catch on for much longer than that. Big deal! Some of you lot get so worked up about minor things. I never used to chant the Cortese song as I thought it was pretty pants, but seeing how stressed people get with it I started singing it loud and proud. Knowing there were a few fans with smoke coming out of ther ears in rage just becuase they don't like a chant Bless. Edited 2 November, 2011 by Golden Balls
Golden Balls Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Steve De Ridder Steve Steve De Ridder He's the king Out on the wing ? I like this tune for a chant. However I think the "he's a king..." part wont catch on. Need to keep it simple to get it going. Just stick with the "Steve De Ridder, Steve Steve De Ridder" and repeat.
The Cat Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 That is cringeworthy - like the fratellis, kings of leon etc, a derivative band that typifies everything that is soulless about current football. No wonder a Kasabian track was chosen as theme song for the Premiership. Yep. Problem is I've found a lot of football fans are happy to listen to that sort of indie landfill tripe. Christ, a while back people we're even suggesting we sang 'rudi, rudi, rudi, rudi' to the tune of Ruby by the thankfully forgotten kings of pub rock the Kaiser Chiefs.
Barry the Badger Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I still like "I see De Ridder on the right" but we've tried it a couple of times and ended up on our own :-(
krissyboy31 Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 It actually brightened the atmosphere on the radio. Mark Bright commented on how quiet it was at St Mary's last night but he picked up on the Schteeve banter which got louder and louder as the game went on.
Macey_J2 Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 (edited) This is the worst chant i've heard from saints fans. I genuinely thought they'd given a block of tickets to local schools for mentally disabled children when i heard "steeeeeeeeeeeeve" every time De Ridder got the ball. It seemed to catch him off guard judging by his poor touch when it happened. It doesn't sound good and all personal chants are supposed to have an instantly positive, encouraging feeling to them. This really didn't. It seemed like our fans were taking the **** out of our own player. Someone MUST be able to think of a good chant for him, and not one for every time he gets the ball. We need to ask him if he likes it. If he does, the morons can continue to be tickled by it, and if he doesn't, they need to stop chanting it every time he touches the ball. Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Someone started singing "Na na na ne hey hey hey Steve De Ridder" to the tune of that Bananarama song (He Hey Goodbye). Didn't really catch on, although it sounded alright. It wasn't Banarama it was "Steam"
hamster Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Rudi, Rudi, Rudi is by.far the best song to emerge from the terraces the world over. And I'm not biased one little bit. Anyone still not got a copy please PM me, only 156 left of the first pressing.
Ball boy Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I like the simple chants like nanananananana stevie de ridder, de ridder, stevie de ridder (like Sylvan Ebanks-Blake though the Wolves fnas don't get too many opportunities to sing it these days).
Sour Mash Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 I'm sure there's something that could be done with Kasabian's "Shoot the Runner". Decent shout that. Few good examples of better songs for him on here than continually shouting out his first name in a stupid voice.
Barry the Badger Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Decent shout that. Few good examples of better songs for him on here than continually shouting out his first name in a stupid voice. Why don't you start one then?
hamster Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 To The Sweeney theme: De Ridder, De ridder da da da da dah da da da da
dune Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 after having a word with a couple of the mongs around me they stopped their c*ntish season ticket waving. Good for you.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Why don't we rip off Man Utd even further a do "10, 9, 8, 7, 6...FIVE DE RIDDERS, four De Ridders, three De Ridders, two De Ridders and Steeeeeeeve De Ridder"?
dune Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Something original and you could easily fit steve de ridder to the tune.
MorningtonCrescent Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 Has anyone actually mentioned the inspiration for this chant? There was once a BBC programme called "Walk On The Wild Side"... see the link.... Replace "Alan" with "Adam, Ads, Alan" etc... and you get where the Steeeeeve comes from! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzypOnklG60&feature=player_detailpage
SaintNeil90 Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 God, this is like and episode of grumpy old men. The second half on Tuesday was boring, so of these chants actually made it slightly more enjoyable. As for suggesting shoot the runner as a football chant, do be serious, it will never happen.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 2 November, 2011 Posted 2 November, 2011 IMPORTANT BROADCAST: Roger's little singing lesson for all fans: [/VIDEO

MorningtonCrescent Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan... Indeed! Funny as..... People Really do need to chill a bit around here - its no wonder so many good contributors leave or lurk these days!
RedArmy Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 It was pretty cringeworthy watching the mongs of block 42 giggling like schoolgirls in a sex education lesson. Whoever started the 'who the f@ck are barcelona' song is a dinlo too.
The9 Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 (edited) Apparently it's because the bouncer on Jerry Springer is called Steve and the audience chant it like that when he is called out on stage. Seems very random to me, but was quite funny. That may be the reason they gave, but when *I* started doing this at Cardiff (and Reading) away it was because I was ripping off Fulham's near ten year-old "Steed" chant in homage to Steed Malbranque. You can hear it here at about 30 seconds : and here as he scores against the Skates : Evidently I am a cockwomble, but blame the mongs around us at those two games who appropriated it from us for it actually taking off, because I had nothing to do with it on Tuesday night. As it happens, I think it's unique and entertaining, whilst the whole "everyone's first name" got boring after about 5 minutes, and cringeworthy by 10. FWIW, we have also been doing an "Alan" and "Steve" thing based on after attending V Festival where the f'ckers were yelling it out all day and all night as part of some in-joke. I now hate it, and it's NOT linked to the Steeeeeeve thing, but that won't stop Mornington Crescent. Edited 3 November, 2011 by The9
The9 Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 FWIW I still think Corona's "I see De Ridder on the right, alright, oh yeah, De Ridder on the right" is worthy.
The9 Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 Isn't this what Fulham fans did with Malbranque? Exactly.
Golden Balls Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 Steeeeeeeven, stevenn de riderrrrrrr runs down the wing for me, do do, do do do, do do, do do do,do do, do do do, do do, do do do, Steeeeeeeven, stevenn de riderrrrrrr runs down the wing for me, do do, do do do, do do, do do do,do do, do do do, do do, do do do (to the tune of heartbeat) Tried that 3 times but didnt catch on. (Although I was chanting 'Stevie' rathen than Steven')
Tokyo-Saint Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 How about: Ooooo Steve de Ridder He’s from Belgium, He's different class Has mayo on his chips but when he runs he’s f*cking fast And when he gets the ball he’ll put your left back on his arse Oooooo Steve de Ridder Not 100% sure about different but it has to be something with 2 syllables to fit the tune. There is a better version of the tune here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axfqvsP9jB0 This was suggested ages ago but never took off: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31444-Song-for-De-Ridder/page2&highlight=balotelli+steve Make it happen.
Turkish Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 This was suggested ages ago but never took off: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31444-Song-for-De-Ridder/page2&highlight=balotelli+steve Make it happen. It may be a good song but it wont get through our superfan song selection panel because there is no factual evidence he does indeed like mayo on his chips nor is he yet to put a left back on his arse.
krissyboy31 Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 How about (and already fastening my coat): De Ridder wo-oh De Ridder wo-oh He used to play for Gent, has skills to pay the rent!
saintj Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 FWIW I still think Corona's "I see De Ridder on the right, alright, oh yeah, De Ridder on the right" is worthy. Like that, you start singing it.....i will join in :-)
NN2 Saint Posted 3 November, 2011 Posted 3 November, 2011 Me and my mate who I stand with at the back of block 41 used to shout go on Steeeeve when he was brought on for his first few appearances in a sort of steve the pirate way from dodgeball. We hadn't done that for ages before Tuesdays game so i'd like to take the credit for it but in all honesty the bloke really does deserve a proper chant coz that is rubbish
eharty9 Posted 4 November, 2011 Posted 4 November, 2011 Tried that 3 times but didnt catch on. (Although I was chanting 'Stevie' rathen than Steven') keep trying it mate will catch on! tried at about 3 or 4 games didn't really happen either!
Matty's Caddy Posted 4 November, 2011 Posted 4 November, 2011 so do i, but we've got de fridder on the right
Matty's Caddy Posted 4 November, 2011 Posted 4 November, 2011 sorry, try that again.... so do i but 'we've got' instead
