We need to get Hooiveld on the bus permanently asap. With his form (and Celtic's poor form) I could well see him being recalled by Lennon.

I was hoping that he was a "celtic reject" and wanted to turn his back on life north of the boarder and would be happy to set roots in Hampshire. However, it seems that come January he could well be off.

Bad news, he has been great the last few games.

We need a song for him.

He has to say that, Celtic are ultimately his employer, if for any reason either through injury or otherwise we don't take him on in January he still has to go back to Celtic and try and continue his career. I'd love it if we bought him though. I reckon his price might have gone up with some solid performances and Nicola might think they're trying to take the pee and pull the plug, if we don't sign him that would probably by my bet as to why.

In my opinion we need to keep him. On the other hand I can now see Celtic trying to jack up the price and we all know that NC will not pay over the odds so I would surmise that Hooiveld is saying the right things in case things don't work out the way that I suspect he wants them to.

Why would someone choose Celtic? I don't get the motivation, it's an appalling league, you get to play poor football with worse players and usually in awful stadiums and freezing weather. Even if you manage to win the league, all you've done is achieve the bare minimum.

With Saints he has the chance to win a far tougher competition and get promoted to a level Celtic and Rangers can only dream of.

Celtic Park and Ibrox are pretty impressive stadiums to be fair and the football is not as poor as alot of people make out. Take that from someone who actually watches it. I'm sure both Old Firm have a better chance of Champions league and Europa league qualification than Saints do at the moment so that might be a factor. Saying that Saints should be able to make Celtic a decent offer for him in January hopefully.

He's exceeded expectations since he joined and, as much as we all love Fonte, has become the first CB name on the teamsheet. A must sign imo, he looks so composed, and would definitely make the step up to the Premiership, should we get there next season.

Fingers crossed Cortese can sort something out, as Jaidi is, sadly, at the end of his career and Seaborne still recuperating. That said, maybe he was a six month looan because Cortese or Adkins had a better target in mind in January...

Agree, his form has made him a must sign for us fans. What concerns me is that I seem to recall reading that the deal for Liam Fontaine was left 'open' should he prove his fitness by January and maybe the reason Hooiveld was only signed until January was because we're planning to go back for Fontaine. I seriously hope not because I can't see what more Fontaine can offer us which Hooiveld cannot.

Exactly. The overall Standard of the Scottish top flight isn't all that different to the Championship and he'd have the chance to play in Cup Finals and european competition.

Having said that he definitely seems to have settled down here and in my views he's chosen his words very carefully to pay lip service to Celtic, while not seeming overly bothered about being back up there.

picked this up on a celtic forum

think that it's pretty obvious to most that the problem at the club is the defence. For whatever reason, it's just not good enough.

The first thing to do is to have a look at who we have available;

Adam Matthews

Emilio Izaguirre

Badr El Kaddouri

Daniel Majstorović

Kelvin Wilson

Cha Du-Ri

Mark Wilson

Charlie Mulgrew

Glenn Loovens

Thomas Rogne

Lewis Toshney

Jos Hooiveld (out on loan)

Josh Thompson (out on loan)

Darren O'Dea (out on loan)

That's 14 defenders on our books, and to be honest, I think two of them are good enough to wear the jersey at present in Izaguirre & Wilson.

So Jos is behind about 12 other defenders in the pecking order at Celtic. I reckon celtic might just want him of the books TBH.

He's politically correct. I think the guy has bounced around between so many different clubs and organizations over his career that he's learned the hard way about how it's just business and he won't turn his back on anyone at anytime. He won't say something that could hurt his future elsewhere, so he's saying all the right things from his point of view. He also won't talk about how much he loves one club because he knows they could ship him off in a moment's notice.

I bet that if SFC, Jos, and Celtic all agreed to make his loan permanent you'd hear a different interview.

So long as he mentions the palm trees in Southampton again I don't care what he said. The moment he spoke of the palm trees he was a legend.

From the initial comments in the link sounds to me like he would prefer to stay at Saints, clearly not impressed with Lennon and current set up. Clearly though he has to say he would be OK going back, otherwise if NA doesn;t want him he is out in the cold again. I would be surprised if he is not still with us in February, unless we have someone else even better already lined up.

On a sidenote, interesting to see a former player of the season of ours on loan at Bradford! If Jos does go back to celtic, would love to see AD back.

Sent off twice in 3 games for them. Saturdays was for going two-footed thru the back of a player that wasnt receiving the ball. Add to that his appalling injury record. No thanks.

Top top guy off the field, very good to my boy after the game signing his shirt, programme and auotgraph book, I asked him if he was staying he smiled and said ' I hope so'. Straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

I hope he does stay, I see the Jos and Jose partnership getting stronger and stronger.

Looks more like a case of not burning his bridges, I'd say he'd earn't a seat on the bus now. But that's up to NA & NC & if we can reach agreement with Celtic over a deal. He does seem to be a real rock at the back & he is a goal threat from set pieces. I hope he is still a Saint into the new year & beyond.

It is good to see that following Celtic fans' appraisal of him and some of our fans being less than enthusiastic about him because of it, that Jos has steadily grown in stature here and is ramming it back down the doubters' throats.

I hope that he does sign for us, as he and Fonte seem to be forging a friendship and an understanding that has potential to become our Killer/Lundekvam mark 2 pairing.

As much as i'm very pleased with Hooiveld, I will remain guarded as We NEEDED to get Marek Saganowski on the bus permananet once upon a time.....we all know what happened to him once he got signed up.

He may have scored a goal recently but I thought he wasn't that great against Middlesbrough. He was the only player who panicked under pressure and he kept just hoofing it up the field all game. I think Adkins can get us a better CB.

Me too he played OK last night against Peterborough but nowhere as good as Fonte

If this world is wearing thin

And you're thinking of escape

Nigel will go anywhere with you

Jos wrap me up in chains

But if you try to go alone

Don't think Nigel will understand

Stay with Nige

Stay with Nige

In the silence of your room

In the darkness of your dreams

You must only think of Nige

There can be no in between

When your pride is on the floor

I'll make you beg for more

Stay with Nige

Stay with Nige

You'd better hope and pray

That you make it safe

Back to your own world

You'd better hope and pray

That you'll wake one day

In your own world

Coz when you sleep at night

They don't hear your cries

In your own world

Only time will tell

If you can break the spell

Back in your own world

Stay with Nige

Stay with Nige

Stay, stay with Nige

Stay, stay, stay, stay, stay

Stay with Nige

No need to thank me.

On Saintsfc.co.uk we have the article 'Fonte eyes Jos stay' then we have 'Jos Bossing it'. I ask myself why would you put out articles like this unless your teasing the fans. I think this is a bit of foreplay before they tell us that he's signed. They'll probably tell us the day before a big match.

I think Jos is a done deal and I'll be chatting to him on Saturday and will confirm to you next week.
