Spot on and showing my age

My time like you and a few others.....Hollywood looks like a choirboy and butter wouldn't melt but would put the winger over the wall no problem......Jimmy Gabriel one of the hardest players you would ever meet..and Walker as hard as nails......

All our yesterdays:rolleyes:

Bill Shankly ......sugestion we were a pub side at times.....

I grew up thinking one day I was going to get one of those flats behind the Archers Road end.....would have been straining me old neck to get a glimpse of St Marys.......I presume the flats are still there....

Sounds good! A year before dad took me for the first time, and a subsequent lifetime of pain and pleasure. Don't remember Wimshurst or Knapp but remember all the others..

Wimshurst was a really good attacking player was MOM in the famous 5 0 thrashing of Nottm Forest in the FA Cup 1963 but his form fell away and went to Bristol City

Tony Knapp was our captain when we got promoted in 1966 came from Leicester City and went to Coventry a few months after this photo to be relaced by Big John McGrath was manager of Iceland

Knapp I think was pictured in a large advert at the Archers Road End advertising Coca Cola

Hmm, probably was very difficult to get real ale in those days when shankley made his famous quote - The big four brewers were buying up all the small brewers and shutting them down e.g. Strongs of Romsey had been bought by Whitbreads and turned into a bottling plant - sacrelidge!

Talking about golden oldies......way before your time football wise Sue?

1978/9 in Dexters night club one night usual banter about Ladies football etc with Saints ladies who also played for England..

Ladies encouraged me to go up Dell to watch an international game which some were playing......

Can't remember names but maybe time of ....Sue Buckett, Linda Coffin, Sue Lopez......and a great little striker...Pat Chapman ?

Great game and some real footer talent....Southampton ladies very strong in those days......

Years later whilst working with a Lady Sue Prior in central London..... same sort of invite to go and watch Milwall Lionesses...

Over the years some of the ladies could get in some of the Saints side I have watched...

Ps If I remember Sue Lopez was that good that she ended up playing top football in Italy Professional/pay etc...

They showed Summerbee in the directors' box at a recent Man City game and I laughed because my foremost memory of him was not a goal or a mazy run, but of him trying to climb back over the wall under the West Stand after Hollywood deposited him into the crowd.

IIRC that was about 90 seconds into the game.

Dave Paton was the lead vocalist in a local band called the Sunsets which included Gerry Gurr on drums and Micky Judd. They performed at the After 8 regularly. Dave Paton is living in Scotland now, Gerry Gurr in Stow in the Wold and Micky Judd remains local. the New Forest I believe.

Micky has or did have a B&B called the Whitemore House in Lyndhurst with his in laws.

Another one of those moments....Referee to Dennis, " No more of that number 3 ".

Dennis to referee, " Don't worry ref, if I got it right he won't be coming back on".

Did not Tony Knapp score the first goal in the 9-3 defeat of Wolves, but in the wrong end.

12 goals in the first hour then nothing for 30mins if my memory serves me well
