Own Up, Who Else Was Concerned About October?

Agree with that, Derby were 3rd when we played them, we ran them ragged & really should have won it, but very happy with a point from that. Followed with a fully deserved win against West Hoof Utd, Reading showed for me a different & equally important side to us with a difficult game against a fast improving side. We struggled for long periods of that game, but somehow we managed to come up with a sublime move to snatch a point. Rounded of with an emphatic victory today. Questions were rightly asked & answers have firmly been given. Well done NA & the team. God it feels good to be a Saint tonight.

At the start of the month I expected 6pts, to walk away with 8pts and undefeated really sets down a serious marker.

We are the real deal.

Sorry to come across all pedantic like MLG but we have got 11 points in October, 3 wins and 2 draws. Whatever way you look at it, it's been a cracking month.

I feared the run of Derby - West Ham - Reading- Boro as a watershed in our season, but to come out of it without defeat and remain top is really the proverbial dog's b0ll0cks. Delighted by it and it augers well, I'm almost fearing that I'm starting to believe in our potential to fulfill expectation.

To be critical we might even hve won at both Derby AND Reading in the final minutes.

Yes, I was very worried. But I am very happy with our return of points, and how we faced-up to the challenge of the other teams that will be there or thereabouts.

Having got through October so well, its hard to see what is going to trip us up, but this is Southampton FC after all, so I will remain cautiously optimistic.

oh leave alps alone, he's been great this year. Really optimistic especially by his standards and frankly the only things he's moaned about so far have also made me concerned. So he complains more than i do about them? So what? They're still often valid points and when he's actually being very positive to moan at him is a bit unfair :)

Optimistic? He had a mini melt down after the palace game. He's still only ever one game away from his doomsday predictions

I don't think I've ever known him to strike an optimistic note - he's always somewhere from downbeat to wrist slashing.

He made such a total ar se of himself last season, it's hard to take anything he says with anything other than several buckets of salt.

Well I dont think I did, but dont let that stop you with your smug-in-hindsight "I knew we'd only lose one game in the last 15" tone...

I'm sorry to have to break this to you, but your absurd pessimism even took on levels of innumeracy.

There was nothing "in hindsight" about it.

I (among others) consistently said we'd be automatically promoted.

You disagreed and were hopelessly wrong.

At one point, to the amusement of all, you even suggested the points total we'd have to get in order to get promoted was higher than the points haul that would mathematically guarantee promotion.

Them's are the facts.

Sorry if they make you even more miserable!

Bless you though. Your rather endearing, but somewhat lunatic, posts always provoke a chuckle.

This season is kinda worrying...I've always been the "happy clappy" type, but we've been SO good this season that I can't help but think the worst. I even tipped us to lose on Saturday in the prediction league. I just don't understand...perhaps it's because I've been a Saints fan for over 40 years and we've always been so good at cocking it up and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! lol

Yeah the last 4 looked like a watershed and I thought 6 points from them and I'll think we are a chance this season. 8 points and unbeaten shows we are the real deal and set for a right crack at it this season. FWIW I know the dark place Alpine comes from - he's been a Saints fan longer than most on here I reckon and has felt the pain too often. Like Dalek, I am slow to get too optimistic having been so badly burned so many times. But - if we don't at least make the play offs from here it will be a disappointment.

I heard MLT being interviewed during the international break. He reckoned that we must be considered very highly if the next 4games could yield 8,9 or 10 points .

8 points and not dropping any points to promotion rivals like West Ham and Boro fits the bill nicely!!

Yesterdays convincing win was much needed after some frankly lack lustre away performances. It's too early to say we're the real deal until we put that run of away games behind us with a few wins.

Which I believe we'll start to pick up. Sometimes, results do not go the way they should. We deserved at least a point against Leicester and all three against Derby. The team continued to compete in both of those games until the very end. I think we need to be a lot more disciplined in the first half away ( we conceded very early goals at Leicester and Derby, which ultimately cost us points ). Don't think this will be lost on the management either. They evaluate every game and I have every confidence that Nige and co will nip the stupid mistakes in the bud.

Hope so. Lallana returning gives me hope and expectation.

Hillarious. Now you're lacking in self-awareness....

Wow, I did a calculation mid-post and was out by one point. Big deal, shoot me. You're life must be so bereft of meaning considering how much capital you've been trying to make out of that "fact" ever since, especially with the pious tone you try to adopt.

I pity you.

Add to this we have had some tough away games recently and our next 4 are against Pompey and the current bottom three we have a great chance to get 10-12 points on the board plus hopefully continue our incredible home form, where quite simple we look invicible.

So the truth hurts

That I dont get to see Saints as often as I would like ? Yes, it does hurt a bit. But I made a choice and accept the consequences.

Having tw*ts like you judging my opinion based on the assumption that dimwitted half-sentient Neanderthals have sat and dribbled their way "live" through more minutes than me ? No, not really. Its funny if anything.

When you look at the upcoming away games, compared the our recent ones, I would expect a large haul of points. We are certainly good enough.

To be fair our problem away is we NEVER get the first goal. We are always chasing the game from being a bit too cautious. I think NA will get this addressed, we are starting to realise what a good side we are and it will soon resonate with some excellent wins away.

As for the Palace game, yes we lost and we had ten changes, we could have won on another day but it was a tight game and Palace have been excellent at home.

Agree with that. We always put ourselves in a position where we need to score 2 to win a game away. If we'd have kept it goalless in the first half against Derby we'd have won that game at a canter IMO, but we gave them something to hold onto right at the start.

yes - but a shame we dropped 4 points!

Agree and its a shame as we could have won at both Derby and Reading in the end. But, fact is we recovered at both from going a goal down, whereas in previous seasons we ight have folded.

I'm far from disappointed by October's results and certainly would have accepted coming out of the month NOT losing to any of Derby,West Ham, or Boro.
