Scarface Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Beat me down, but I do wonder if the amount of stick gully gets is justified. Clinical today....... Agree he goes missing away from home but think he is too easily a scapegoat for way performances Thought he was a key difference today
View From The Top Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Played in his natural position today.
norwaysaint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 To be fair, it is a very hard name to spell.
saintmatt Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 The guy's quality. Unfortunately some people like to have a scapegoat
Liquidshokk Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He did lose the ball a fair bit early on today (come on, yes he did) but he was quickly forgiven for that following the goals. I think that's the problem, he gives people plenty of reasons to groan during a game but brings equivalent in magic moments too
Scarface Posted 29 October, 2011 Author Posted 29 October, 2011 Sorry grammar police too many stellas but feel he needs more of a spokesman, the amount of stick he got at derby and Cardiff was a joke when you look at the quality of player
Scarface Posted 29 October, 2011 Author Posted 29 October, 2011 I agree mate, but there's a lot more positives than negatives. Give current squad easily in the strongest 11
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 The Guly's quality. Unfortunately some people like to have a scapegoat Fixed it for you. :-)
georgeweahscousin Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He is much better up front with Lambert. He is quality in my opinion, and deserves to start every game.
Doctoroncall Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Speaking before the match, he said: "I once had my doubt about staying at Southampton but not any more. I wouldn't want to go back to Italy now. I still don't like the cold weather and English food isn't my favourite. But what I do like here, more than anywhere I've been, is the people."
teamsaint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 thing is, strikers can often have a day when chances a few, and defenders are on their game. On those days, it can be one moment that pays their wages....for guly at reading it was playing SDR in for his goal. A perfect pass, that helped save the game.
Appy Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He was awful at Reading, he was very good today. That's Football.
redder freak Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He was awful at Reading, he was very good today. That's Football. Agreed. But it was his flick on that created the goal at Reading.
sfc4prem Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He was awful at Reading, he was very good today. That's Football. He was played out of position at Reading for most of the game. As soon as he was moved up top playing off Lambert, he provided the flick for the equaliser.

As soon as he was moved up top playing off Lambert, he provided the flick for the equaliser. Does playing out of position mean he plays 2 horrendous passes to get our captain sent off? Agreed Hammond did himself no favours, but being played out of position can't excuse that. He has had very good games on the wing as well. Full of praise for the guy today though.
Saint Garrett Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He is a nightmare some days, and absolute class on others....thats the type of footballer he is. Has been excellent at home, although on the whole hasnt been great away from home. 2 good goals today and unlucky not to get a hatrick.
Huffton Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He does tend to drift in and out of games but he always has that little bit of magic that can turn a game. Guess he's a bit of a luxury player, but assuming we get back up he will fit very well into a prem side. Used to have a player like him a few years ago, can't quite remember his name, came from the channel islands i think...

Liquidshokk Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Don't let this rubbish start again. If we cry scapegoating anytime someone gives an opinion on a player, we may as well close the forum. There are no scapegoats in our squad, but there are no perfect players either. Some have had bad games, some have struggled away from home a bit, or out of position. Guly particularly has cost us in a couple of away games. Saying that doesn't remove all the good things he's done. Same with Connolly, whose seemed to let a lot of recent games pass him by, but was excellent early season and still can grab a goal. This scapegoating crap seemed to start at the time we had some absolutely dreadful players, and some people seemed to feel bad for them because of the criticism, but most of it was valid about the likes of Jermaine Wright. Even Wotton, who was liked, was seen as a very limited or poor player, simply because he was. You can praise workrate while being realistic about ability. Nice. Well said,
Saint_clark Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 No reason for him to be shoved back out on the wing now, his best football for us has always been up front - and he'll perform away from home whilst playing as a striker as well, much like he did last season.
Justin C Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 IMO he is one of our better players and sometimes is too good for us. For example he will play a ball where people should be but he looks silly as our players can't read it. The guys in the row in front of me thought he is very poor and still are not fans. If AL is not in the team he is one of the few who can make things happen. I agree he is not the best away but he is from Brazil and has got better at chasing back.
welshsaint92 Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Every time I see him play he seems to be improving . He is frustrating at times but when he's on form he's a class act.
deadpanmatt Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 He's top quality. I think we're lucky to have him. His interview in today's match program was pretty interesting.
um pahars Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Thought he played brilliantly up top and as much as I like Connolly I would be starting Guly over him for a few games at least. Always rated him and thought the higher the league the more he would flourish.
