I'm pretty sure NA doesn't think like that. For the Reading game he lamented the fact that he only made one change from the side that won the previous game, and said it was perhaps a mistake by him.

The selection of Butterfield instead of Richardson (and his reasoning behind it) shows that Adkins makes decision on selection to suit each individual game.

He may not think like that, but he has come out with that regret a few times now so I think it's a lot closer than that. The key will be the energy of our midfield against the energy of theirs. You don't have to go too far back to Reading but I don't think Posh will be capable after a tough away game beforehand. The problem against Reading was our midfield was nullified, Chaplow ran around a lot, but mainly trying to recover balls that had ricocheted off in the challenge. Luckily Reading were relatively toothless, otherwise we would have been in trouble.

I doubt Lallana will be up for a full shift so although I can see getting through against Posh, it's what we will have left for Coventry that really concerns.

Id play Morgan instead of Hammond, he seems to have lost it in the last few games. Id also be tempted to play De Ridder just behind Lambert if Gully isnt fit, DC took the goal well but did nothing apart from giving the ball away a few times. But if we play like we did in the first half we should be ok

Have to say Connely was indeed poor apart from the goal where all the work was done by a team mate though it was a tidy finish for sure......

Fair to say Chappers is going to be well up for this one what with the dislike between him and Fergie. I wouldn't mind seeing us start with the same team as against Boro. I know Butters was an enforced changed but he played well enough to earn another game I thought.

People seem to be missing the threat of this game. Middlesbrough don't score freely, so at 2-0 their heads were down and it was game over. Peterborough however will keep going for 90 minutes and attack throughout, as likely to score at 0-0, 3-0 or 3-3. Very tough game.

2-2 I reckon.

I think the Posh might well give us a more difficult game than Boro.

Still can't see why people think the Boro were an OK side. I put the whole game into the memory on the decoder box so I've looked at it again in it's entirety, still can't see that Boro were anything other than very mediocre.

Can it be the beer goggles that make Hammond look a good player ? He races around achieving little, his passing is poor he connected once with a long ball, his brain and feet don't seem to work together at all. I think he does his best and puts in lots of effort which is admirable but is he good enough at this level,it is not ideal to be unhappy with one of our boys who collectively are doing a wonderful job but I never see this wonderful partnership with Cork and I really want to and I watch intently as I am so proud of our team and want them to achieve their dream and ours.

It must be, as I like many others agree Hammond has excelled so far this season, i had my doubts about him but he has really stepped up.

If you have ever played football you will realise that a teammate who is always available, never shirks a tackle, plays it simple, has a great engine, is always focused, always driven and leads

by example is a great asset to have on the pitch !

He may not possess the lavish creativity of others but is essential to the make up of the total unit !

Dean Hammond comes into this category and I feel sure that the manager and the other players appreciate this too !

I also don't believe that he is captain for no reason !

All IMHO of course !

Jesus what a thinly veiled attempt to get to see more of Morgan, I'm guessing early 20 something French men are more your cup of tea than a good english lad ehh?

We need to remember that although our attack has maintained the high standard set at the start of the season, our defence has continually improved. We've conceded 2 goals in the last 5 games.

Last season Posh didn't have to face up to Richardson, Fonte, Hooiveld & Fox. And they did have CMS.

It would take a pretty substantial lapse not to win this one.

Picked this up on a posh forum

I agree with you, having watched Southampton a few times this season, definitely the manager needs to be thinking a thrashing is the last thing we need so perhaps for this match we need a much more defensive line up.

Go with the team and tactics yesterday and we will concede five or six.

We have for the past season and a bit relied on/developed the attacking nature of our game so personally I'd struggle to name a defensive line up.

Given the style of football we play ( a little Keeganish at Newcastle) what do you feel would be our most defensive lineup?

Plenty of goals (hopefully mostly from saints) tommorrow surely........

At Reading Saints were not as energetically forceful as they had been against West Ham. Passing was less clinical and sharp, and Reading's midfielders were usualy first to the ball, and frequently took the ball off Saints players.

Hopefully, everyone will not be as fatigued this Tuesday though our players might again be feeling the after-effects of playing another top team on the Saturday.

Fitness will decide this match. If we make mistakes Posh's sharpshooters will punish us in a way that Reading couldn't.

I'm not predicting the result, though I will be gutted if we lose or draw.

One thing I noticed against Palace was the way Butterfield hugged the sidelines and the defenders were never drawn out to him, giving that extra second for him to aim his cross. Having watched the extended highlights from Saturday exactly the same thing happened for Guly's first. What a cross that man has.

Yup, look at his cross for the first goal at Plymouth away last season, and that was with his left foot. His crossing from deep seemed like it was a conscious tactical decision on Saturday, as Middlesborough's formation meant there was more room in deep areas and less further towards their penalty area.

Just returned from dropping off my Grandson after a week with us and him being with us to see us thrash 'Boro 3 - 0. My S I L is a Posh STH and says if Posh are allowed to play football then expect an upset. He agrees with me that Saints v 'Boro was one of the best games he's seen this season but don't get complacent because it could be opur undoing. I still think we'll have the edge and I'm going for a 2 - 1 win for saints.

Tomorrow night's game of Association Football has all the ear-marks of a banana skin. They are not dissimilar to us, they play good football and know how to kick and/or head the ball into the goal.

Let's not get carried away with the success from the Boro game. Yes, we played them off the park, but posh are a different sort of team.

At least they don't have mackail smith this year though.

I'll go 3 - 1 to Saints but will be happy with a scrappy 1 nil as Posh arn't that bad a side and could cause us a few problems.

Can't see us "nilling" them to be honest. Could be a draw but more likely 3-3 than 0-0. However, if the defence play like they did Saturday, we should win the game.

Got to keep Chappers and Lallana and NA would not dream of breaking up our top centre midfield pairing of Cork and Hammond....

Some posters still can't get their head round how invaluable Hammond is to the side...

Agree completely.......those who doubt this just spend a few minutes watching how Hammond directs play and also

tucks in and covers whenever other players are out of position during an attack.

I also think this aspect of Hammond's game is allowed to flourish with Chaplow in the team as it allows us

to seamlessly change to Adkins 'diamond' formation during a game with the aforementioned players a

natural top and bottom point of that system.
