Saints vs Posh - Build Up

Lighthouse

Recommended Posts

Tuesday night at home to the Posh. A quick flick through their matches this season doesn't tend to yield a lot of clean sheets for either team, with Peterborough not having any. A 2-2 against Millwall is also their only draw this season. All this points towards a really crap 0-0.

Not really sure about the team, it depends on the fitness of various players, most notably Guly, Frazer, Lallana and Barnard. Assuming they are all fit, I'd go with the same team, with Barny on the bench for DC. Knowing Adkins and having 3 games in 8 days, I'd expect a couple of changed though.

I don't mean to sound cocky but...

Let's f**kin' 'ave 'em!!

Id play Morgan instead of Hammond, he seems to have lost it in the last few games. Id also be tempted to play De Ridder just behind Lambert if Gully isnt fit, DC took the goal well but did nothing apart from giving the ball away a few times. But if we play like we did in the first half we should be ok

Totally disagree thought Hammond was every where today and matched the Boro physical challenge

I wouldn't change anything for Tuesday, baring any Injuries. We are in as good a place as we have been for years at the moment, but we need to make sure we maintain the same level of intensity as we have against the ''Bigger'' clubs. P'boro are a dangerous side, they're better than they were when they were last at this level, they're still able to score goals for fun so they'll be a threat - but as with last season, they concede **** loads so we have to be confident there.

They've only scored 3 less than us but have a pitiful GD of +3 compared to our 17 which = crap defence as well!!

I would not be surprised if it turned into a goal scoring slugging match and we win 6-4.

But as OP says 0-0 - probably longer odds than 6-4 tbh as well!!!

Both teams may change from their normal game plan to try and counter act the other's threat ... but Nige has shown he can change and then revert once the job has been acheived.

Extra hour now means a 2am finish - glad I'm not working the next morning!! Just make it worth my whillestaying up!!

Assuming that Posh will offer more coming forward in comparison with Boro, maybe playing Richardson instead of Butterfield would make sense. The rest of the team I would leave untouched even though de Ridder, Schneiderlin and Connolly should all be very close to a place in the starting lineup...

Their defending at Watford yesterday was laughable... if they defend like that against us on Tuesday it could be an absolute raping.

No change from last season then! They haven't kept a clean sheet all season apparently and concede something on average of 1.6 goals a game.

Their tactics seem to be it doesn't matter how many you concede so long as you score one more, so our defence will be more important than our attack IMO. We know we have goals in the team from all over the field, we have a squad of players who all have goals in them. But our defence, whilst overall pretty good, has been the weakest spot so far.

I'll be stuck in the bowels of Terminal 4 for this one - no phone reception, no computer, no radio. The only link I have to the outside world will be teletext. God bless it. As I can't listen to it, I guarantee it will be a cracker. :-(

Don't change a winning team!

I'm pretty sure NA doesn't think like that. For the Reading game he lamented the fact that he only made one change from the side that won the previous game, and said it was perhaps a mistake by him.

The selection of Butterfield instead of Richardson (and his reasoning behind it) shows that Adkins makes decision on selection to suit each individual game.

Don't change a winning team!

This depends on the extent to which you do it. The minor tweak here and there or where you have one of your better players returning means you can.

If however you do it George Burley style and drop your best performing players for the sake of it then it definitely applies

Im sure im one of many who are starting to think the PL is a possibility we just seem to be getting stronger with each game, what a great feeling it would be for the boys especially the likes of Kelvin,Adam and Morgan who have gone through some dark days with the club(the dream goes on)

It would be a great story for those lads, and like you - I'm too starting to believe. I'd still say a top 6 finish is a great achievement based on where we've come from, but we're in such a strong position in the top 2 at the moment that I'm starting to think we'll could actually stay there.

Same as,abit of a gap developing at 6th place if like you say we could get a playoff place it would still have been a great season(We shall live the dream)

I think we have a fortnight off after Saturday, so unless there is a physically or psychologically pressing reason for resting someone not much in the way of change. I'd be surprised if Ferguson comes down here for a slugfest more like high tempo, press hard a la Reading and hit on the break. If he just comes and plays he is risking a hammering.

Saints 6-1 P'boro IMO

5-2 to the Saints

6-2 Saints

i will go for 4 - 0.

But Saints should be able to put 3 or 4 past them.

I'm going for 4-2.

Careful, I really think a few of you are getting carried away here. I think we will do it, but by a narrower margin. 2-1.

Anybody know how to get the "from £15 Adult" tickets for this game, couldn't see it on line or any T&Cs anywhere. These were advertised on the large screens yesterday.

Cheers

Alan

This one baffles me. I believe you had to book for middlesborough and peterborough at the same time to get the latter for £15. But I bought middlesborough tickets long before this was announced. Hopefully someone will correct me if i am wrong.
