farawaysaint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 I'm looking forward to the MOM poll. If Chaplow does not get 100% of the votes, I will demand a recount! Guly scored 2 and almost got a third in 55 minutes :-) i'll have a gentleman's wager with you he gets at least 20% of the vote ;-)
Ohio Saint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Guly scored 2 and almost got a third in 55 minutes :-) i'll have a gentleman's wager with you he gets at least 20% of the vote ;-) Yes, Saints are awesome! I get it!!! LOL
Viking Warrior Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Sat in the Royal oak . What brilliant performance from saints. The team were together even fonte looked back to his normal self . We could have had a few more . Rickie lambert was awesome he is such an unselfish player . I wanted that volley of his to go in . Anybody no how many passes were involved in the third goal. Shame I have to go back to Orkney on Monday. A couple of other points you have to give credit to the Boro fans most continued supporting their team to the final whistle. Lastly I was sat three seats along from mike o'callaghan he was enjoying himself so why he moaned on talksport I have know idea. I was going to speak to him at the end of the game but he left early
Nexstar Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Fantastic performance, Guly upfront seems like a decent option! Chaplow was sensational and Fonte looked back to his best. That Lambert volley was a cracker. Roll on the Posh!
toofarnorth Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Fantastic performance, Guly upfront seems like a decent option! Chaplow was sensational and Fonte looked back to his best. That Lambert volley was a cracker. Roll on the Posh! Completely agree about Fonte. The break seems to have done him the world of good and he was in complete control today. Jos and him are developing into a formidable defensive duo. Chaplow was so good today and that corner where he stole the ball and ran the whole pitch got tackled but then won the ball back again deserved a goal.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Great stuff. Excellent performance & I'm not even sure we got out of 2nd gear 2nd half. Same again on Tuesday lads.
skintsaint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 some bint on the bbc says: [h=3]Dear #bbcfootball bosses, please send me back to St Mary's again soon. #SaintsFC a dream to watch: waves of passes like ripples in water.[/h] [h=3]@JacquiOatley3 mins ago[/h]
BallBoy Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 I doubt that we will ever get to see the whole build up to our third goal. The Football League Show isn't long enough! It was just fantastic. Barcelona would have been proud of it and if Messi had scored we would have seen it time and time and time again. One touch football just mesmerising the Boro defence and patiently waiting for the killer ball. Lambert was brilliant to keep holding until the right moment. Loved it!
rallyboy Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 great cross and finish for the first one, great move and finish for the second - and the third one will be used in future as a great example of stylish ball retention, even showboating, but with end product! If West Ham and Boro are the calibre of opposition we need to worry about, we are the real deal. Stars all over the pitch, well done Nige. I'm off to a meal out in Waterlooville where the tumbleweed will be blowing around the streets as they try to ignore the league table. Another happy day. I love football. And well done to the Kingsland, great noise today, especially the excitable little group in ties that looked like they had never been allowed out before let alone to a big game - top marks for enthusiasm!
Viking Warrior Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 First time I have tasted saints ale even that tasted like decent champagne
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 http://oneboro.co.uk/forum/ typical bunch of whinging northern monkeys! SAINTS PLAY BORING said one, no more boring that a sh-it hole smokesville they live in!!1 LMFAO!!!
Leslie Charteris Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Happy daze! :-) I have to pinch myself sometimes just to make sure this is real. ...oh and that bint on the BBC said it was twenty five passes for the third goal.
Toomer Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 A very good all round team performance Guly's first and Connolly's were crackers and the knock back from Lambert for Guly's second was agreat bitof vision. Guly could have had a couple more, Lambert could have had a couple his volly that the keeper saved late on deserved to hit the back of the net. I was a bit dissapointed with Borough all I can remember is about 5 or 6 shots from distance thought it would be a bit tighter than it was, we won it at a canter if we got 5 it would not have flatered us. Chalow edged it as MOM, I would give an average mark of 8.5 to each player.
cf saint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 I believe the technical term we use around these parts is 'we tore them a new one.' I'd say that third goal was the best goal I've ever seen live... the way we ole'd every pass leading up to it... and the way the finish was made to look so EASY... Very very happy Saints fan right here. This, can't wait to see that goal again.
Ohio Saint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 typical bunch of whinging northern monkeys! SAINTS PLAY BORING said one, no more boring that a sh-it hole smokesville they live in!!1 LMFAO!!! haha! I just took another peek at them. Those guys are deluded.
doggface Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 How many straight home wins in all comps now????!
Dr Who? Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 I still think that Brighton will end our home run....I hope not but have had this feeling for a while now. If not Brighton it will be Cov, Doncaster, or someone like this. A game where we think 3 points in the bag!!! Great win, great, team, great manager, great club, and great fans at the ground!!
Leslie Charteris Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 How many straight home wins in all comps now????! 18 according to the OS.
the saint in winchester Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Yes, Boro were awful. We were brilliant first half, and played with a glass of champagne in our hands the second, no chance of spilling any. Only concern was that 20 mins in second half when we seemed happy to let them have the ball and see what they could do with it. Answer was - nothing. Only Emnes was any sort of threat, and Jos and Fonte coped with him easily. It was ole (as in oh-lay) possession football in the build up to the 3rd goal but there seemed no assault on goal until the last few passes. I was even getting frustrated at no apparent end product, only to find Connelly shooting! Yay. 3-0. All going well after 14 games!
scotty Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Just in from work, gutted I couldn't get to SMS today. Very very happy indeed, thats brum, whu and midds dealt with at home, cant quite believe this season Roll on tuesday night, I'll be there for that, COYFR
Jimmy_D Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Apparently 25 consecutive passes for that goal....
yorkie Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 In Nigel's interview on Solent it was pass number 26 into the back of the net! I was watching a very good quality stream, and it was awesome. Saying all that Boro's defenders gave Rickie a bit too much space, but he dropped his shoulder and the defender bought it! Saying all that in previous years our forward would probably have been offside! Rickie Lambert is a true star - unselfish, a team player and all round nice guy who is worthy of a chance in The Premier League...just hope he does it with the mighty Saints!
View From The Top Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Sat in the car with corky morris, hasper57saint and the kids and we are all in agreement that Chaplow was MoM, followed by Sir Richard Lambert. That 3rd goal was a thing of beauty.
PhilippineSaint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Prompted by other posts, I've just had a glance at a 'boro forum. All the posts seem to be about how poorly they played. Gotta face the facts, it had nothing to do with them being poor. They were simply played off the park today by a dominant opposition. Saints won this game, it was not gifted to them by 'boro. Just back from the game and Chaplow played them off the park on his own, he was like a terrier chasing a tennis ball all game long and at the final whistle should have just stuck it in the back of the Boro net instead of picking it up.
PhilippineSaint Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Best Chant of the day from the Northam, We are Southampton and were taking the P!ss We are Southampton and were taking the P!ss
Gemmel Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Yes, Boro were awful. Actually they weren't. They were probably the best footballing side we have had down here this season. They simply couldnt get through and didn't want it as much as us. They will be up there come the end of the season and I hope fans appreciate what a good side, we have just thrashed.
LGTL Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Boro weren't that bad, they'll do well this season and Emnes will be a handful to most teams. We were sublime at times though, the 3rd goal was a joy to watch.

jampot Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Anyone care for a stab as to why Richardson didnt play? Butterfield played well though.
channonball Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Can't say I completely agree with the BBC report. I didn't notice any huge defensive errors on their part and it seems a bit disingenuous not to say we ripped the a new one!

Have to agree, Boro are not a bad side and their away record this season was W4 D1 L1 and think they have lost something like 4 in 28. We beat (sorry, hammered) a pretty decent team who were sat in second place and don't think we should pretend otherwise.
pedg Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 from http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/football-league-blog/2011/oct/29/football-league-your-thoughts-blog Before Saturday's game, Middlesbrough had not lost at St Mary's but two first-half headed goals by Guly do Prado changed all that. That brace means the Brazilian has scored six goals so far this season; more than half of his total last season. Speaking before the match, he said: "I once had my doubt about staying at Southampton but not any more. I wouldn't want to go back to Italy now. I still don't like the cold weather and English food isn't my favourite. But what I do like here, more than anywhere I've been, is the people."

I didn't notice any huge defensive errors on their part and it seems a bit disingenuous not to say we ripped the a new one! What?? For our first goal Guly was just wandering about in acres of space, completely unmarked. Sometimes I wonder if you can actually see what happens from the stands at SMS. If we had conceded that goal there would be much lynching going on right now. Edited 29 October, 2011 by Window Cleaner
saints-cris Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 According to one of their lot, Lambert is a 'slightly more technical version of Heskey'. Bitter much? Ouclassed them today, was a joy to watch.

captainchris Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Well, for this game, perhaps the poll should be for the worst player. It would be hard to deny any glory for most of the team today. Did no one see how awesome AL was today also......Whilst Chappers played superbly well with a ton of energy AL was a class above again - no coincidence we were so good today with him back.....And Guly up front of course....

Micky Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 According to one of their lot, Lambert is a 'slightly more technical version of Heskey'. Bitter much? Ouclassed them today, was a joy to watch. Yes, but to be fair, another Boro fan has quickly responded to him by posting in reply: "Please stop. Ricky Lambert is a very good player. Also we could kill for a 'slightly more technical version of Heskey' You sound bitter; take defeat wih grace." So it's not a general concensious by any means.

Borough were one of the better teams we have seen down here this year so we did play very well to beat them so convincingly....
Ashley Grute Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 I agree Chaplow and Rickie were brilliant today but a special mention has to go to Hammond and Cork who were immense in the middle today! Being a saints fan is amazing at the moment- I love this club!

SaintRobbie Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Slightly surprised there was only 26,600 there today.
Window Cleaner Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Slightly surprised there was only 26,600 there today. Stadium looked half empty, especially the Kingsland centre. The section allotted to Boro as well.
70's Mike Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Stadium looked half empty, especially the Kingsland centre. surely you mean Itchen Kingsland was packed
Window Cleaner Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 surely you mean Itchen Kingsland was packed Perhaps One stand was pretty sparsely populated in the central section, a few down low,a few up high a few more in the middle but there were entire blocks of red seats.Opposed to the TV cameras anyway.
S-Clarke Posted 29 October, 2011 Posted 29 October, 2011 Boro didn't turn up in all honesty, and if you don't turn up at St Mary's these days you will get absolutely tonked - which they were. I was amazed at how straight forward that win was, Boro huffed and puffed a little in the 2nd half but didn't have any punch about them. Emnes looks like he's used all his goals up in the first few weeks of the season, but we did very well to marshal him as we did. Chappers was again absolutely everywhere, box to box, right to left, left to right...he's just incredible at the moment and has to be one of the guaranteed names on that team sheet right now. Guly showed what a good player he is up top - his movement was excellent and he made some terrific runs. His first goal was such a good header, the keeper had no chance with that - he's adjusted to life at this level with ease, as most of the team has. I thought they couldn't handle Lambo at all, he won so much in the air and they didn't know how to deal with him - he was causing them all sorts of problems. It's just a shame that he's waited this long to play at this level, he's been wasted in L1/L2 over the last few years. Great to see Lallana back, but you could tell he's still not 100%. He'll get back in the groove after some games, but he didn't do much of note today. Thought Butters was terrific, we're very lucky to have 2 evenly matched right backs at this club. In fact we have quality throughout it - the subs aren't ''reserve'' players for us, they're all impact players who can all play a part and change a game. It's been a long time since we've had a squad of players like this.
