JRM Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 This Saturday will mark 9 months since we last failed to win at St Mary's in a competitive fixture, quite remarkable and unlike any run of results i can remember since i started going in the mid 80s, for some fans who only do home games it must be hard to remember what it is like not to win! Had a few spare minutes at work and thought i'd reflect on the run of games: 29/01/2011 Manchester United 1 v 2 LOST 12/02/2011 Carlisle 1 v 0 WON 26/02/2011 Swindon 4 v 1 WON 08/03/2011 Yeovil 3 v 0 WON 19/03/2011 Sheffield Wed 2 v 0 WON 02/04/2011 MK Dons 3 v 2 WON 05/04/2011 Charlton 2 v 0 WON 16/04/2011 Bristol Rovers 1 v 0 WON 25/04/2011 Hartlepool 2 v 0 WON 07/05/2011 Walsall 3 v 1 WON 06/08/2011 Leeds United 3 v 1 WON 09/08/2011 Torquay United 4 v 1 WON 20/08/2011 Millwall 1 v 0 WON 10/09/2011 Nottm Forest 3 v 2 WON 18/09/2011 Birmingham City 4 v 1 WON 21/09/2011 Preston 2 v 1 WON 01/10/2011 Watford 4 v 0 WON 18/10/2011 West Ham 1 v 0 WON 29/10/2011 Middlesbrough ? JRM Posted 27 October, 2011 Author Share Posted 27 October, 2011 we are bound to drop points at home soon, i've been expecting it at every home game for a while, but we keep on winning. you'd have thought over time we'd have drawn a couple , like Huddersfields "unbeaten" 40 odd games

St Lej Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 When we do fail to win at home, saturday or whenever, wouldn't it be great if we could take it for what it is, i.e. the inevitable end of a brilliant run, rather than moan like hell and cite every little thing wrong with the squad 10 times in the post-match reaction. It would be great, but It won't happen because you'll get the usual guys who never watch a game live, moaning and beetling that they hold more of a valid opinion than the people who have been going for the last 9 months etc.

Neil Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 Middlesbrough would be just the bloody team to end it, with a typically spawny 1-0 win, or a dull 0-0 or 1-1. They are one of the dullest most awkward teams over the years, have always hated them. That said, even if the run does end, the team should be applauded off to mark the end of the run. Saint Garrett Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 Hope we can win, but wouldnt be surprised if we don't....our run against them at St Marys must be very average ??? Have we ever beaten them ? I remember the 2-2 (obviously) and also losing 2-0? Malcolm Christie scored ?

Well said. I hope if/when the run does come to an end, the players get a standing ovation as they leave the pitch. Is my hope misplaced?
SNSUN Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 Against Brum, against Forest, and against Ipswich, three good sides, I thought we'd struggle, and we dicked 'em. As much as we're all concerned about this Middlesborough game, I just reckon we'll **** 'em! Disclaimer: I may be wrong.

We must be selective with our use of Nuns, weather reports and woots on Matchday Thread if we expect to get anything from this match with the omens stacked against us. sfc4prem Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 I have a feeling that 'Boro will end our run of wins, with a dull, stifling performance and a Marvin Emnes equaliser in the form of a deflected shot from the edge of our penalty area. SNSUN Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 You are, Ipswich was away . I didn't specify home or away, I merely stated that Ipswich are a good side who we dicked, thus stating my theory that perhaps we raise our game against the big boys. Even Derby and West Ham in recent weeks, two teams close to the top of the table as our rivals, we've played well against.
Jimmy_D Posted 27 October, 2011 Share Posted 27 October, 2011 West Ham's thread was claiming they were champions in waiting... This thread is pointing something we've ALREADY done. Even if we fail to win, this run will still stand.

It's not on TV I hope It's on Fox Soccer Plus on Sunday if that counts? http://www.livesoccertv.com/channels/fox-soccer-plus/ ...and the difference between this thread and West Ham's is that their OP claimed they would win the next match, this OP is only commenting on what has gone before.
