Shame, he was going to be my favourite player in a few years time, might have to rethink that ;)

Love it how it's entitled "Why teenager James ditched Pompey for Saints", and then doesn't give any hint of a reason as to why in the online article.

I thought that. It just says what he did...not why. Typical Echo I suppose, what more should we expect?

Have we nicked all pompey's best youth talent LOL? Still with the new academy rules thingy I suppose pompey will have to get used to losing all the best local talent to us......

Let's not forget Bobby Stokes place of birth. Nothing particularly new in this, Saints taking the most talented players in the area.

Bitterne Park Saints school player who went the other way to Pompey , Spurs and England...

Darren Anderton.......never as good as Le Tiss though.

but wasn't Malcom Waldron from somewhere near Skatesville?

Mick Mills, although coming to us on after Ipswich, also started as a junior there before they decided they could no longer afford to run either the juniors or reserve team in the 1960's.

I do remember them cutting their youth back in 1960 ish.....nnothing changed their....

To be fair I remember Graham Roberts as a Saints schoolboy being turned down by Saints and trying Pompey...

but turned down by them, Bournemouth and others....After a season at Dorchester and Weymouth got picked up by Spurs.

Jake Thompson also a Pompey lad who came to Saints Academy........I think he is up your way Badger , on Loan at Forest Green...surprised he didn't go home as he would get a game at Pompey....next year in Div 1:rolleyes:

I'd imagine that's the headline used in the paper itself (where there's a more extended article) - the website often only offers teasers to full stories. Could be wrong though.

he was a season ticket holder at Fratton Park - there's your reason

He was 12. I 'supported' man utd when I was 10 or 11. Most friends at school who supported random teams turned to Saints as the years went by.

Michael Owen and various other liverpool players supported everton. Let's face it, if you're at a club a while you end up supporting them far more.

But you didn't have a season ticket...

Disappointing, but as he was only a kid he could still move on from that, depends how into it he was, as he has a double barreled surname and his dad is a barrister i am guessing he wasn't particularly fanatical standing in the fratton end with west-wood ringing a bell, it could be enough for him to never build a true affinity with saints though and make it easier for him to be tempted to move on. hopefully the longer he is here he'll forget his links with the dark side and come to think of saints as "his" club. Won't be easy. i wonder if his Dad will be in the home end at Fratton in December or joining us on our jolly coach tour of the M27?

Jamie's old man said be a Pompey fan,

he said f*ck off,bollôx you're a c***

Good song, don't hear that one enough nowadays, used to be a favourite of the Archers Road end. Get it going again as a tribute to Ward-Prowse

Gareth Bale IS/WAS an Arsenal supporter, I was very surprised he went to Spurs ! and very more so he has become a star there and he plays his heart out for them in derby games.

not really, he isn't from North london, he never had an Arsenal season ticket or queued for hours outside Highbury, he probably had Ian Wright poster on his wall and that was it.

bit different from being a "fan"

Isn't he a bit too posh to be a Pompey fan ... his Dad is a barrister and he's got a double barrelled name. :o

his name even sounds like a firm of solicitors

didn't we have a player called Josh Dutton-black or something in the youth set up? he sounds straight out of Eton!

What about Forbes Phillipson-Masters, I think it was, now that's a firm of solicitors.

JWP's dad praised our Academy and said something about poopey supporters not happy with broken promises about the ground etc.etc. (read it earlier and can't remember exactly)

i've heard that James Ward-Prowse used to be a member of the notorious Pompey youth firm

in his season ticket holder days

Maybe hes here to make it and then once hes playing regular look at a move away and just use us to start his career, i dont mind if he does this as long as A) plays well wins us games and B) we get a decent amount for him.

Jamie Carragher was an Everton ST holder and he's stayed pretty loyal.
bit easier to stay loyal when you are winning European cups and earning more money at a club than you'd get anywhere else.

Was brought up to be PFC by my family, signed schoolboy forms at 13 wth Saints (with Steve Foster, Graham Roberts, Steve Neville, John Sharp etc) all my family are PFC, but I still have a season tickect at SMS, so not too difficult to to aprreciate a propoer Footbal club

Seems he definitely has seen sense and is a Saints fan judging by his last tweet.

All the best to the under 18's this morning against Portsmouth! #oneteaminhampshire #we'recomingforyou #Win

Infact if you look at his previous tweets, it's pretty obvious he's a Saint, and a LEGEND!!

Makes me think of a New England Patriots RB called Benjarvus Green-Ellis, who is nicknamed 'The Law Firm'. Maybe we should do something about JWP.
